I love TOOL one of my favorite bands, but Adam Jones is a really shitty guitarist from a technical standpoint, he couldn't play the things Omar does...but he sure makes tasty riffs.

Rapidfire Tollbooth aka Goliath is fucking sick.

Aside from the technical aspect of it, TMV is light years ahead of Tool intellectually these days, IMO. From a cerebral perspective, TMV is where Tool left off after Aenima. Just my $0.02

Any word when this new album is supposed to hit? Not even a wisper of it on the offical TMV Myspace.

I like this band alot but must admit I have not listened to the last 3 songs on Francis The Mute but like once.

I dunno why. It's like you gotta plan your afternoon if you want to listen to them. At least on that album...cuz i always have the urge to listen to the album start to finish and never end up actually finishing.

Thats a bit of a shame considering how utterly mind-blowing the Cassandra Geminni epic is... do yourself a favor... block an hour and a half out on your Treo650, pop in Frances the Mute, and give yourself an audio blowjob.

Yeah Aenima was a lot closer to the sound TMV puts out, I liked Lateralis a lot though, and no joke about Cassandra Gemini is one of the most epic pieces of music of our day. TMV is just one of those few good bands still around today.

Sparta is alright, and the Mars Volta is better than decent, but if you combine the 2 you create one of the most awesome bands around.

I agree, but all the talent went to Mars and Sparta got the leftovers which was still a halfway decent band.

We were not comparing them. Jim Ward and Tony Hajjar of Sparta used to play in a band with the guys from the Mars Volta called At The Drive In. We were saying that At The Drive In was better than both bands.

yeah I never said that Sparta was any good. I think I refered to them as alright...and my category "alright" means anything with a guitar and drums, with the exception of Kid Rock

Yap yap, anyways I never really got into ATDI much I can't stand Cedrics vocals on it. I'm just glad there is one very good band still around nowadays.

To be fair, The Mars Volta is a completely different animal by Omar and Cedric. It was their side project while they were still kicking ass with At The Drive-In. Im sure they can still pump out the type of music they put out with ATDI, but TMV was a different outlet creatively for them. So its not like they split up ATDI and created a new band with a different sound, they had already established their sound long before ATDI broke up. So to compare the two bands is moot. I love both bands for how different they are/were. I will say it is going to be hard for Omar an Cedric to top De-Loused in the Commatorium on this new album. Oh, and Sparta........ehh?

when you refer to bands, please don't use the word "the" to start out the name

thanks.

In the U.K., there is a techno band already called "Mars Volta", so yes "The" is relevant to differentiate.
