Scola Thread!
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2003/fulljgetty77010349tv009tz0.jpg

Even Scola couldn't have stopped capspace tonight!

Scola's line:

Min: 18
FGM-A: 2-7
Pts: 4
Rebounds: 5
Turnovers: 4
PF: 2

Wheras capspace...I dunno what he did, but I promise you it didn't suck that bad.

Just wanted to make sure I bump the Scola threads when he sucks, as much as they get bumped whe he gets outplayed by Euroleague C's...not that his ardent fans wouldn't have done that for us....but it's my pleasure :tu

I think Mahinmi almost outplayed him in like 3 minutes.

That's not entirely true...you did not get him for nothing.

It's not about the Rockets...it's about the Spurs and about whether or not they made the right call to move him.

Rockets = don't matter.

Scola matters only because the Spurs traded him...

Figure it out.

You? You're a Rocket Fan on a board called SpursTalk...

They didn't get Scola for nothing. Spurs had to give up Spanoulis who Pop wanted.

LEN BIAS 4EVER

False. Spanoulis had made it loud and clear that he wasn't going to stay in the states and would be headed back to Greece. The Rockets did not want to let him out of his contract. Then suddenly he is traded to the Spurs along with a 2nd round pick in 2009, and the Rockets get Jackie Butler and Scola, who then signs a very affordable contract offer at 3 years 9.5 million. Spanoulis is then released without having to pay back any of the buyout money the Rockets spent.

Spanoulis is happy
Scola is happy
Rockets are happy
Spurs are ??????

I don't see how we are better off ?? For Christ sakes, he barely makes more than Matt Bonner.

It's funny because although Scola will probably end up being a decent role player in the NBA, the overreaction of some of the Spurs fans has been priceless. The hyperbole has been so over the top, you'd think they should've traded Duncan and kept Scola.

It's the product of being told for several years that this guy was going to be fantastic and take some of the burden off of TD. If Scola turns out to be a great NBA player, then I'll anguish over it. Until then...

People would be saying the same damn thing if it was Oberto instead of Scola, and as evidenced in the 2007 playoffs all of you would be dead wrong.

I' m not claiming this guy is anywhere near Duncan's level, but he knows how to play. And in NBA terms he is a bargain. Decisions this poor will eventually catch up to you, a la the Rasho signing.

Scola makes Matt Bonner money, And Bonner in his wildest fuckin dreams isn't as good as Scola.

Scola really struggles for the moment.
Adelman is patient with him and continues to give him some playtime early in the games before benching him during second halves.
It will be interesting to see what will happen if Scola continue to suck. It's kinda unlikely to see Landry or Novak being able to play quality minutes. Rockets will have to stick with bad players, do a trade or play a lot of small ball with Battier or Wells at PF.

From www.ole.com.ar
Playing with Yao paying off for Scola, he got a contract to use chinese made shoes for 3 years.

So for every game in which Scola plays great, you'll bring up a scrub who once posted similar numbers, preferably against such team. Yesterday it was Mengke Bateer, now it's Nazr's turn. Now all you've got to do is find one such scrub for every team in the league, and you've made sure nothing he ever does is worthy of note. Yup, that would seem to be the kind of incontrovertible argument only a superior mind could think of.

some_user86
11-18-2007, 05:04 AM
Oberto went 11-for-11 against Suns.

I wouldn't argue Scola's a scrub. It's just that his work would be duplicated with Oberto already here, and Scola would be limited in use compared to Oberto, since Oberto can guard centers.

Scola couldn't compete for minutes on this team, especially as a rookie.

Plus, as has been noted many, many times, Scola is scoring this high with T-mac out. Once T-mac returns, those shot opportunities dry up. I predict, eventually, Scola will end up a 10 pt, 5 rb guy.

that's the best you got? Pathetic Suns fan.

You've got something specific to educate me about chief, or are you just up to that typical Spurs fan bullshit where you ignore my point and then go on and on about how many championships the Spurs have won, and how the Suns have never won it all? Blah blah blah.

It's funny to see an unproven player on an opposing team get his own thread on Spurstalk. I think the guy has skills and upside, but why the obsession over Scola? He ain't done nothin yet in this league.

Karl likes Rockets' pursuit of Scola
By Chris Dempsey
The Denver Post
Article Last Updated: 11/25/2007 12:25:47 AM MST

HOUSTON — Ask Nuggets coach George Karl about Rockets forward Luis Scola and the likely response will be a head shake and slight smile.

There is frustration and admiration there.

Scola long has been a member of the Argentina National Team, a squad that beat Karl's USA squad at the 2002 World Championships in Indianapolis. Karl, however, is a fan of the Rockets' move to get the 6-foot-9 forward. The Rockets acquired Scola in an offseason trade with San Antonio in July.

"He is kind of an old-school guy that knows how to play," Karl said. "He plays with great hustle and great intensity, but also with intelligence. I think he's been impressive already, and I think he'll be more impressive as the season goes on. I think he'll learn the game a little bit better, he'll move on the learning curve faster than most because of his experiences. And I think it's a great pickup by them."

Scola averaged 13.3 points in his past three games coming into Saturday night's contest.

Houston 101, New York 92
By BRIAN MAHONEY, AP Basketball Writer - January 9, 2008

NEW YORK (AP) -- Yao Ming scored 36 points, and the Houston Rockets got big final quarters from Rafer Alston and Luis Scola to beat the New York Knicks 101-92 Wednesday night for their season-high fourth straight victory.

Alston added 20 points, eight assists and six rebounds for the Rockets, who seized control immediately after Knicks coach Isiah Thomas was ejected in the opening minute of the final quarter when he came onto the floor to argue with referee Eric Lewis.

It was unclear if Thomas made contact with the official before he was thrown out for the first time this season. Going onto the floor doesn't warrant an automatic ejection.

Yao made the technical free throw to give Houston a 78-74 lead, then Scola made a pair of buckets and Alston had a 3-pointer and another jumper in the decisive spurt, giving the Rockets an 87-76 advantage with 6:43 remaining.

The Rockets improved to 6-2 since All-Star guard Tracy McGrady went out of the lineup with a strained tendon in his left knee. Scola finished with 19 points, nine in the final quarter.

Jamal Crawford scored 21 points, Nate Robinson had 16 and Stephon Marbury 15 for the Knicks, who won Tuesday in Chicago but failed to match their season high of two straight victories.

It's no co-incidence that alot of the Spurs interior defensive woes started and Rockets got tougher with the trade of this man, Scola.

I think the Spurs would still be rolling if they had Scola instead of Bonner/Dice/Ratliff to anchor the defense.

He doesn't have to be great, he just has to be tough.

The Rockets used to be a soft team before Scola.

:lol. Scola would give the Spurs another nice option in the post - but he averages a block every 5 games. He has absolutely zero defensive prescence in the paint.

The only way the Spurs are going to be contenders or improve significantly (They are not conteenders right now) is if they make a trade for a 7 footer who can defend the interior. A short list..

Blair is perfect for an energy role of the bench... similar to a Millsap. But the Spurs arent beating the Lakers with Blair starting and playing 30+ minutes against Bynum/Gasol. Nor would they if they had Scola starting.

They need 7 feet.

It's not the shot blocking. It's the bullying and borderline dirty play of Scola. He knows when to grab and push when the refs aren't looking. So he's far more effective on defense than a guy like Bonner who plays the fair way. He's a real sneaky dude.

The Spurs have gotten soft, they need a bully like Scola. Blair is kind of thuggish but he's llimited to only 6'6.

This is why Fisher got sick of the shit and laid him out in the Playoffs last year.

Maybe because Fisher is a thug; Scola is not that dirty really, maybe just a flopper.

Scola's sneakiness makes him a great flopper too.

Scola's dirty man, lots of players get pissed playing against him. He's a sneaky dirty player. But that's why he's great for the Rockets.

You can't just go in and punk on the under-sized Rockets. Scola and Hayes are a pretty tough front line even though they're undersized.

Scola just get under players skin. His offense is kinda like defense. he's feisty and works hard so when you see his hair flowing all over the court it puts you in a trace.
