Bet the farm, the house, the kids, the dog, the wife, the paycheck on my Redskins this week against New England.

Washington is getting 17 pts at NE.

I know nobody has been closer than 17 against NE(Dallas), but there are two reasons that lead me to believe that Washington will give Tom Brady all he can handle this week and therefore cover the spread.

1. Washington has the best secondary in the NFL

2. NE will invariably look past Washington to next week's showdown with hated rival Indy.

I am betting heavily on my Skins, so should you.

I think it will be the Patriots toughest game yet, but I don't expect them to look past Washington. The 'skins are a very good team and I don't think their coaching staff allows the players to focus beyond the coming week.

I don't bet, so I have a question. If Washington loses, but loses by fewer than the 17 points, you win, right?

Thunder Dan

So far the Browns have come the closest to making it a game vs. the Pats, they lost by 17, but the Pats scored a TD with under 2 min on a fumble return...

However, I did read a handicappers blog and he said this "Don't bet against the Patriots. I don't care what you do but NEVER bet against them this year. I don't care if the line is -34.5, don't bet against them. If you think a line looks integuing you're better off just not betting on it because I told you DON'T BET AGAINT THE PATRIOTS"

The Skins are too beat up to consider anything a lock. I actually like their chances this week. But if Rabach isn't back on Sunday, and Kendall, Smoot, and/or Moss tweak their injuries, WAS will have a hell of time just fielding a team, much less competing with the Pats.

If healthy, WAS is one of the few teams in the league that match up well with NE (relatively speaking of course). They've got enough secondary depth to match-up with all the NE wideouts. Their DL - while not great pass rushers - can control the running game without needing to bring up the safeties. They've got a running game that can pound the ball and control the clock. And they've got a big armed QB with fast WRs who can attack the Pats vertically.

However, Washington is far from healthy.

Yea I agree that the Redskins are good and physical just like a lot of NFC east teams. The Skins and the Giants are 2 tough teams and its funny how the Pats are favored by 16.5 to the Skins and were favored by 16.5 to the Fins. Probably because they were on the road vs the Fins. I cant wait til they play at home vs the Fins. What do you think the spread will be in the game? And I wonder how much they will be favored over the Colts? If they are favored by more then 4 vs the Colts I would be shocked even though I think they will beat the Colts by at least 10. if both of them are undefeated and the Colts are the defending superbowl champs the Colts being underdogs at home is pretty crazy.

I think the Pats will win 38-13 though. Brady will throw 4 more Tds. :elefant:

The Redskins will get lit up for 35+, and Campbell and that offense may be the only team that can't put up points on NE's pretty average and slightly shitty D. Dallas put up 27 even with their offense killing drive after drive with penalty after penalty. NE wins by 30.

Kendall went down in the second half of the Green Bay game. He played against the Cards, but was in and out - and ineffective.

Rabach is listed as 'questionable.'

Heyer is still hurt. Jansen and Thomas are out for the foreseeable future of course.

Are you sure that you didn't mean RG for Fabini? That's where he has been playing. Wade is at right tackle (and nowhere near 100% himself). I haven't heard that they were going to move Fabini outside.

Overall, the patchwork line has done a pretty good job of protecting Cambell (except for when Pucillo came in for Rabach, teams have been getting a push up the middle all of a sudden). However, they haven't opened many holes for Portis or Betts. Defenses are overloading the left side so that the Skins can't run behind Samuels/Kendall.

jackseven

Hardly a lock. While Redskins secondary is by far the best the Pats have seen, Washington's offense won't put up the points necessary. Keep in mind, the Pats have been slowing down in the second half against most teams. Last week they could have scored 70 if they wanted to.

The more I think about it, the more I see a somewhat close game in the beginning and then the Pats busting the game loose after they start wearing down the Redskins D. They'll have to try more, but in the end I see 41-17 Pats.

Redskins will try to slow the game down and control the clock, but the Pats will get up and force them to abandon relying mostly on the running game.

Once the Pats are up 14-0, Gibbs will start feeling the pressure to throw the ball and that will open the game up.

No such thing as a lock when going against the 2007 Patriots.

NE is that good (and the Redskins are playing very poorly to boot). The Skins secondary is the one place they matchup with the Pats, but with Smoot and Rogers out, they simply don't have the bodies to cover all these WRs.

Add in Campbell playing his worst game of the season, Brady being near flawless, and you have a blowout.

The football gods will eventually punish them for running up the score. Probably next week, and then again in the playoffs. Both times by Indy.

He threw down the sticks and quit the game, I was winning like 60something-0 at that point and it was the 3rd quarter. Football karma is going to get the Pats back bad.

I played in leagues from 1998 to 2004, face to face and online. In one league I played in, you could keep your team if you return the next year.

The player that owned the Pats played a very similar style as the 2007 Pats. He would spread you out and pick you apart with quick passing plays. The past Maddens were horrible defending pick passing plays and "A" gap blitzes.

Anyway, the Pats owner was very good and he would blow you out if you didn't have a good day. Usually, he would win by 40 or more points and some felt in our league, running it up when he had the game in hand. I always felt this was unrealistic because what coach would risk injury if you were up four touchdowns in the 4th Qtr? But since injuries didn't count in our league from one game to the next, running up the score wasn't really frowned upon. Though it did get heated sometimes.

In the real NFL, everytime you keep your best players out on the field, their risk of injury goes up. That is the ultimate price for running it up.

I knew you would not back your smart assed BS prediction with money...talk about losers.

I always wondered how it felt to be a Sun Fan.

It's pretty easy. Just two steps really...

1. Punch yourself in the stomach
2. repeat

If you wish to be a Suns fanatic, then add a third step, and it's as follows...

3. Print out the Nielson ratings report on the highest rated NBA team, sit in a corner, calmly pet the printout, repeating, "My precious" over and over...

Colts didn't run the score up that year at all right? Manning was never throwning TDs in the 4th up by 4 scores right??? shut the fuck up.

That is what I said. The NFL is fixed.

I wash my hands of the NFL. You can have it.

No, you just don't know football. You made a horrible pick. The Pats look like the best team in NFL history and you bet against them with 17 points and the Washington Redskins who have a tough time scoring against average Ds.

Hey Colts fan, it's going to get ugly this coming Sunday. Real ugly. So ugly, you'll be making excuses too. The Pats will run up the score against Colts too.

If teams have a problem with running up the score - stop'em. If you can't shut up. This is pro ball.

Yup, it sure was their toughest game. :rolleyes

was I seeing things, or did Joe Gibbs really walk off the field without even acknowledging Belichick?

EDIT: patriots message boards are confirming a handshake took place. CBS certainly tried to edit it to look otherwise by showing Gibbs running off in the opposite direction and then immediately cutting to Belichick looking around confused.

here's a post from a Patriots message board that sums up the whole "running it up" crap that people bitch about.

Expecting an opponent to "take it easy" on you is weak and classless.

Seriously. How pathetic.

You're SO BAD that you EXPECT the opposing offense to "take it easy" on you???

Your ego is SO FRAGILE that you require your opponent to STOP TRYING?

You are so unable to handle a large loss that you have to turn the blame away from your own incompetence?? How anti-American. How piss weak. Be men.

Giving up in such a manner is the epitome of lacking self-respect and class.

It is FAR MORE CLASSLESS to complain about an opponent running up the score than it is to play the game how it is supposed to be played as an offense or defense.

These people crying about us scoring points are beyond pathetic. They are completely classless. That goes for the accusing opponents and media members alike.

Jealousy is an ugly emotion.

i'm as diehard a redskin fan as there is and i have no problem with the pats' scoring.

it was the redskin defense's job to stop them from scoring, not theirs.

what a pathetic performance by the D. yes, with springs as the only healthy regular corner, that makes the Pats a near impossible match-up, but 52 points? c'mon...

The problem with pissing off defenses is that someone is going to take a run at Brady eventually. An extra step or two before the hit, helmet to helmet, going low, etc. Someone will think the ensuing fine will be money well spent.

I have no problem with the scoring, just let Cassell run the offense in doing so.

Yep... those hating are doing such on the wrong team. It was the 'skins who failed to give a damn much after the second quarter. If they don't care, why the hell do you folks so much?

Blaming a team for attempting to become the greatest offensive team to ever play? That's bullshit! These are professional ballplayers getting paid millions of dollars to care enough to put forth a winning effort. These aren't college kids or younger who need a bit of real world shelter for fear of a fragile psyche. Every team in the NFL has the talent to compete any given week. Every team certainly should have enough heart to not want to get their brains bashed in. Especially after all the "they aren't much more talented/taht much better" talk they ran all week.

'skins got skunked, but what stinks most is everyone dumping on a team for playing up to its own abilities and demanded perfection.

And it was interesting that Al Saunders lost communication with the sideline for a few minutes during the game. As if the Pats needed anymore of an advantage. It was probably a coincidence but who really knows.

As far as the running up the score thing, I didn't appreciate Belicheck going for it on 4th and 1, sneaking Brady, up 38-0 in the 4th. It didn't seem like they were running down the clock to win the game. They seemed like they were trying to pad their stats against a defeated, injured team. With Rogers getting hurt, and Smoot out, of course it was easy pickings. Joe Gibbs had some explosive offensive teams in the past but I do not ever recall him throwing on teams, up big in the 4th. He would smash your brains in and run the ball, run the clock.

To beat the Pats, you have to have all hands on deck. You have to think outside the box. Try to convert a receiver as an extra defensive back like the Pats did with Troy Brown. You will have to risk some one on one coverage with Moss to at least attempt to pressure Brady. And get some hits on that Wes Welker. I don't condone injuring anyone but you have to make him pay for catching all those passes in the slot.
