IRVING, Texas - With ratings for televised Dallas Cowboys games soaring this season, the NFL has logically moved their Nov. 18 game against the Washington Redskins from a noon to a 3:15 p.m. (CST) start here at Texas Stadium.
This is the second time the NFL's flex scheduling has affected a 2007 Cowboys game. The NFL already had moved this past Sunday's originally-scheduled noon game against the Minnesota Vikings to 3:15 p.m. on Fox, and the game helped the network to a ratings bonanza, attracting more viewership than the seventh game of the ALCS or NBC's Sunday night contest between Denver and Pittsburgh.
The Cowboys' Week 11 game will now be just one of two games in the 3:15 p.m. time slot on Fox, the other being St. Louis at San Francisco, which means the Cowboys and Redskins will be shown to the majority of the nation.
Also to accommodate broadcast patterns, the NFL has changed the starting times of two other games: The Pittsburgh-New York Jets game on CBS has been moved from noon to 3:05 p.m. (CST) and the New York Giants-Detroit matchup on Fox has been pushed back from the 3:15 p.m. time slot to noon (CST), making way for the Cowboys-Redskins game.
There still is a chance for more game movement in Week 11, the NFL reserving the right to change time slots no later than 12 days prior to that Sunday's games under its flex-scheduling guidelines. The Sunday night game that week currently is Chicago at Seattle.
With this most recent move, the Cowboys only have two more noon starts scheduled at this time: The Dec. 9 game at Detroit and the season-ending Dec. 30 game at Washington - both games on Fox, and likely candidates to be moved under flex scheduling if all three teams continue to battle for division titles.
