View Full Version : The Watchtower

For the past few weeks while stopping at the local gas station to grab my morning can of Full Throttle, I’ve been approached by a man and woman. They have tried to hand me the notoriously known Watchtower booklets that Jehovah’s Witnesses hand out. It has become sort of a challenge I guess for them to get me to take them.

So this morning while I was gassing up the SUV the man approaches me with that sly grin on his face (like yeah I’m gonna get you this time). He looks at me and extends the booklets out and asks me if I would like some literature. I look at him and say, “Sure I’ll take your booklet, if you take mine.” He looks at me confused and says, “Sure, I guess.” I open the center console and pull out the booklet I made at work about the Devil and hand it to him. He looks at it for a second, looks at me, then pulls the booklets he just game me out of my hand and says, “I’m sorry sir, we won’t bother you anymore.”

I know some people are going to say those people are just trying to do God’s good work and spread the message. But these people knew me by now and they knew I didn’t want their damn booklets.

It made my week, am I going to Hell?
BTW, I hope I didn’t offend any Jehovah’s Witnesses here.

I was born and raised a Jehovahs Witness. I haven't been to the meetings or been out Field Service in a long time though. I guess if the guy was being pushy, but you gave him something pertaining to the devil? :lol

Once when I was still asleep, they knock on my door and I was just trying to get back to bed so I took the book and thought that was it. He stays standing there and I was like um yes? He goes on to say that a donation is usually given to re coop the cost of printing and so on.

So I go well here is the book back, and he says no it's ok in a pissy way, so I said. NO take it back to tell you the truth it would go straight into the trash when you leave. He took his book back super fast.

Most if the time during the presentation of the book or literature you are supposed to mention that if you wanted you could contribute something t-wards the worldwide work it would be appreciated. But if the person didn't have anything to donate, as long as you wanted to read the book then you could just keep it. It might have been someone new. You have to realize that people ignore Jehovah's Witness'es alot. So it's far and between sometimes when people even come to the door sometime. :lol

Kinda reminds me of the time I said "Hey wait!" to the little old lady trying to scam me for a dollar with her "I'm selling pens because I'm deaf and need to eat" note. She turned around. Deaf my ass.

Well I say you got to take your hats off to them. Yeah they are pushy at, but they don't get paid to go out and try to spread their faith. They also don't ever ask for donations. There are several Witnesses in my family and they get all of those publications and books without paying for them so that is odd that he asked for a donation. Im actually surprised he backed off when you showed him the book of the devils. All the witnesses I know would have seen that as a challenge and not backed off.

They're good people. They're really not fakes, like most other so-called Christians. But, I always had a problem in believing most of the concepts.

Yea, I know . . . surprise, surprise.

Yea.

Try growing up like that.

Check this out, he used to give us daily bible homework assignments. We couldn't leave the house to hang with our friends until we finished our biblical assignments. He also taught us all to read (in english and spanish) strictly using the bible.

We had to recite verses from the bible to him, as a show of our progress. I must have read the entire bible 10 times over.

Yeah I can imagine being a Po's kind how rough you probably had it. My mom never really came to the meeting either except when I had a part on the school or something. My grandmother was a regular pioneer and she used to get on me all the time about personal study and increasing my field service time. I was never one for personal studing though. If I ever had a talk to do I would normally get it out the day of. :lol I liked going to the conventions so I could see the different women and show off whatever new clothes I might have gotten. My brother still goes to the hall regularly. He's not a minsterial servant or anything like that, but he does carry the mics and help out behind the literature counter. Occasionally a few witnesses who knew me growing up will stop by to encourage me to come back. But like A said, while every religion has it bad seeds, overall the witnesses are good people.

The parts!!!

Yea, when I gave my first part . . . it was like a Bar Mitzfa. My dad made such a big deal about it. I was five years old. Everybody was already saying that I was my dad's clone and that I would grow up to be one fine elder someday soon. I guess they all got that wrong.

The conventions were pretty cool, but I mostly slept through them all and I used them to get some tail (which, knowing these type of girls was pretty damn hard). Some of the people that I grew up with still try to convince me to go back, but they mostly have given up on me.

Now, I'm like an outcast to most. But, I really don't care.

Just about all my friends have been disfellowshipped at one point or another. My brother was but he got re-instated. Some of them never bothered to come back, and some did only to get disfellowshipped again. :lol I myself just stopped going. So does your dad still talk to you? Let me guess, a piece of a** huh? :lol

Everybody and their mother wants me to go back because of my baby girl. Well, my soon to come baby girl.

They worry for her soul because I'm such a heathen.

I'll let my parents talk her up. Then, when she's old enough to reason, I'll teach her my humanist views. I'll let her decide what's best for her.

LOL Sequ you should start your own faith and call it ignorance!! I wonder how long this idiot thought the witnesses were the guys riding bikes all over. I once ALMOST went to the Mormon church. When I was 18 the 3 HOT mormon girls came to my door and were trying to get me to go to church. I asked them all kinds of questions and kept them there for like 45 mins hahaha.THEY WERE SO HOT and I was 18 come on!! Shit if they came to my door again I would keep them out there longer!!

I know someone who did what you did but actually in a serious way. He told the person he would take the literature and read it if that guy promised to take his literature on his faith and read it. The guy said no.

The problem that I have is the desire to convert poeple to one's specific denomination. I have read that JW target certain areas of town that they believe are highly Catholic with the intent to convert Catholics. If you really want to spread the Good News how about trying to talk to people who have no faith and not those who are happy in the faith they have already chosen. I would never try to tell someone to leave the denomination of their family to join mine. It's a pet peeve developed from years of being told by a Southern Baptist I went to school with that I was going to hell for being Catholic. When I tell you that I have a faith, that should be enough for you to leave me alone and go evangelize someone else who has none.
