Our coach Pop, who has one of the best career records in NBA history in all probability will lose out to this guy, Mike D'Antoni, a former Denver Nugget reject in the right to coach the WC All Stars. Pop, who has the best winning percentage in all of sports since 1997, has still never coached an All Star game and this guy, a nobody before this year beats him to the punch....unbelievable. :rolleyes

He's a former Spur and he's good people, so good for Mike.

Talent has helped both Pop and Mike look real good - even though they both have good coaching skills. Mike is pretty well respected in Europe as a coach.

I keep hearing a few people on radio and TV pronounce Mike's last name "Dee'-an-toe'-nee".

When he played for the Spurs, they pronounced it "Dan'-toe-nee". Is the latter of the two pronunciations the correct one? Just curious.

Marcus, I care. I want Pop to add that honor to his resume along with Olympic coach. It just seems odd, that he has never gotten his team off to a fast enough start in order for him to get the AS coach duty. This year, they are off to the best start in their history and will probably win more games than any other Spur team and he has to have this start coincide in a year that has a Suns team that is on fire....it just pisses me off.

The first one is correct.

It must be the new Americanized way, then Jim.

I know the Spurs PA announcer (Pat Tallman) and Terry Stembridge used to say "Dan-toe-nee", which would match with typical Italian pronunciation.

Had the Nuggets beaten the Suns last night... it would have been within Pop's power to earn that role... on DEC 28.

I watched that game and was yelling at the tv for Denver to block out, as Phoenix was putting up tip in after tip in as the clock was winding down on Richardson's last tipin. Denver had a great chance to win and they were even w/o 3 starters in Camby, Anthony and V Lenard. Great effort, all for naught. :depressed

Suns schedule...

Thu 23 Memphis 7:00pm FSAZ NBALP
Sun 26 Toronto 6:00pm FSAZ NBALP, RSNDP
Tue 28 @ San Antonio 6:30pm UPN 45 NBALP
Wed 29 @ New Orleans 6:00pm UPN 45 NBALP

They still have to play against Memphis and SAN... it's a long shot, but they are due for a couple of losses.

Well, Pop coaching the All-Star game wouldn't probably help the West to win, would it? I mean he hasn't done very well (as an assistant) coaching a bunch of free-lance all-stars for Team USA.

D'Antoni was a scout for the Spurs' organization in 1999-2000. He is familiar with the overseas talent (Europe). He also speaks well of SA as a team and organization. Mike's a good basketball man.

Its not over yet, we still have at least a month before the coach is decided, and i personally think pop would much rather have the time off

Spoken from someone who blew over $6000.00 in vBookie on New England last night. :) Pop lives for that kind of shit, bball is his life and coaching is what he loves to do, he would be honored and challenged to coach in the All Star game. What else is he going to go, drink wine?

Besides he would make those pansy asses play some D too.

Actually, Jim...I believe I've heard it enough times now to know that the latter of the two pronunciations is correct and not the first one. I've even heard Phoenix TV people pronounce it Dan'-toe-nee. I don't think he's changed the pronunciation over the years since he was a Spur.

"dee and toe knee" is the similar to the way "San Ann Tone" people pronounce "de Zavala" (road) as "DAY za VAL la" instead of "de ZA vala".

Then there's "dee hanis" out west of SA. :)
