BUT HES NOT A JUMP SHOOTER!!!! :lol
As opposed to driving? He was not open on that possession (or at least for the cockeyed fadeaway he puked up), and it was forced. He is a driving/slashing player who uses jump shots to keep the defenders honest (and away from Duncan). He is not a jumpshooter, like a Barry or finley, who he acted like on that play. He should not have taken that shot. Period.

Wow everyone is a little too giddy on the Trail Blazers... ok they never had Oden, but Pryzbilla ended up with 13 and 10 LOL.... Timmy and the frount court have to defend a bit better than that, i mean JOEL PRYZBILLA.
Blazers look good, Spurs just didnt play any D all game, any NBA team can put up points if you dont contest jump shots. Blazers have a bright future, but theyre not making the payoffs this year.
good game for the spurs...Obviously a little rusty. will take time to get Bonner into the system correctly. Washington was serviceible in his minutes. Am I the only one to think Manu derserves more minutes?? Guy is a baller.Overall, pop did great with the minutes he gave out. I thought we would see our newest asset from Portland, but I guess Barry took his minutes. Over all, a good all around game from everyone. Nothing to get excited about, but solid play as a team.

We're watching the Utah/GS game now. I think I just missed the Spurs. I'm really uninterested in watching this game. Even though I have a lot of respect for Utah (now that we've beat them).
I should watch the Rockets game so I can talk about it tomorrow, but really, ugh.Oh, damn. Forgot about League Pass. Thanks! :tu

Duncan was 10 of 15 for 24 points and 13 boards...Parker with 19 points...3 turnovers, though...Ginobili a bit shaky from beyond the arc (1 of 5), but still got 16 points off the bench and had 5 steals...not a bad start...not bad at all...

Can't agree with that, after what I saw. Before the game I thought they might have a chance for an 8 seed, but now I think that if the rest of them stay healthy and hungry, they've got a real shot at a 6 or 7 seed. Of course it depends on how bad the bottom of the barrel is, but I think they are going to have a really good season (comparatively).

I cant see it...
1. Spurs
2. Mavs
3. Suns
4. Jazz
5. Rockets
6. Nuggets
These teams are all considerably better, they arent getting in the top 6.

Are also better IMO, but they have health issues so Portland could nab the 8th if things go their way.

Props to the Blazers for a good game and Im sure Pop will have a few words with the team on defense. I did catch a glimpse (on tv) of Pop getting into Bonner good for some screwup. Anyway, the guys all looked pretty good, Tim looked real good and chalk up a good start to the season. I do hope Bones is a shooter this year, I dont care if he misses alot because when he finds the range he is damn near automatic.

Duncan's stats were nice.
24 points on 10 for 15 FG
6 offensive, 7 defensive boards
3 assists

No turnovers.
4 for 7 at the line, his only real weakness.

Kobe is maybe the most overated player in the history of the game. Honestly is he really any better a player than say Tracy Mcgrady? He rode Shaq to 3 titles and since he has had his own team he has won jack shit. His 3 titles and big stats give him all this cred about being the best player in the NBA but he is far from it. Without Shaq he would be 29 years old with big stats and no titles. Lots of guys did that in their careers and are nowhere near the status that Kobe enjoys.

I tend to agree. If you stick Kobe on a lackluster team in a small market instead of Kobe Bryant you get Michael Redd.
If only the Charlotte Hornets hadn't traded Kobe on draft night.

My questions heading into the game:
1) Will Washington play as the backup point guard?
-I expect him to play 12-14 minutes.
2) Will Udoka be in the rotation?
-I expect that he won't be.
3) Will Pop give Duncan and Parker even more rest than usual this year?
-Tough to say but I can't imagine they could play less than they did last year.Looks like all went as expected. Washington was the backup point, Udoka was out of the rotation and Pop let Duncan and Parker play regular minutes.
Nice win to start this season off.

observations from yesterday:
- Duncan looks hungry.
- Parker came out blazin' but forced his shot and got very sloppy towards the end of the game.
- Ginobili is still a hustler
- Bowen is still tenacious on defense
- Barry is as relaxed as he's ever been
- so is Pop
- Elson hates the mask
- Bonner is a good defender
- so is Roy
- Pryzbilla (or u'd think chris billup if you heard Marv) looks like a retard
- his screaming doesn't help him..
- The Blazers tried to break Duncan's back
- With an improved Jack and Oden coming back, the blazers can be contenders (thats right)
- Webster would fit very well with the spurs
- Washington: Good hustle, bit nervous but overall good performence

Nice post but gotta disagree on both of those points, especially Bonner being a good defender. Last year, Bonner was a horrible defender. In this game he was a really bad defender.
At least that's a step in the right direction :)

Pop was dying in this game how bad Bonner was playing D in the first half. Bonner missed rotations on back to back plays and Pop was exploding.
About Parker, Pop praised his D in postgame and obviously he got off to a quick start offensively. But I think he got tired rather than sloppy as the game wore on. He got two key baskets late in the game though. :tu
