Derek Fisher was tearing shit up early. And Kwame Brown should be slapped - fading away in the post with Diaw on him.

They will come back. A 13 point lead is not insurmontable the way the play. Plus is the Lakers.

This Suns defense is ugly. What's worse is their offense is a question mark.

Those two things add up for a very troubling start to the season.

I never claimed that. I know the Suns are not the greatest when it comes to defense. However I still think they have enough to win plus they can play good enough defense to win. Is only a matter of them focusing on defense.

Remeber last season the Suns started off 1-5 and ended up with 61 wins.

Yeah, when Amare was working his way back into shape. They also had a steadying presense down low, which is now in Seattle.

I'm claiming that the sky is falling. But I can certainly call schlock schlock. The Suns have played like garbage on defense for 1-1/2 games thus far, and, if not for Banks 4-for-5 from range, may have lost to a bottom -10 team in the League to start the season, and, unless someone steps up with a similar performance tonight, may lose to a team they've dominated the past three years.

T Park
11-02-2007, 10:40 PM
Im tellin ya,

Loosing Kurt Thomas hurt more than people realize.

Brian Skinner is just a regular stiff big.

Thomas was a perfect defensive big for the Suns.

Could hang scoring wise AND, play D on the good bigs in the league.

Kwame is tearing them a new one tonight.

Yes.

KWAME BROWN!!!

4 points 8 rebounds in the first half?!?!

Good god.

Wow the Suns defense is fucking trash.

JMarkJohns
11-02-2007, 10:43 PM
Skinner is actually more athletic than Thomas, but I think "stiff" could apply to Skinner's offensive game. I'm very concerned.

Yeah Skinner "moves" better than Thomas.

His jumper, inside game is trash, and his defense is mediocre compared to Thomas in the post.

Nash 1 assist. That sums up the game so far.

JMarkJohns
11-02-2007, 10:52 PM
He doesn't have the 3-point shooters. Hill has always struggled, Marion is inconsistant, Amare better not, and then off the bench you have an inconsistant Banks, two rookies and a non-existant Diaw.

NOT good...

T Park

Brian Skinner or Grant Hill?

JMarkJohns
11-02-2007, 10:53 PM
Both, but mostly Skinner, since low-post defense and rebounding is their two most glaring holes.

T Park
11-02-2007, 10:57 PM

If they had gotten PJ Brown, I would still be seriously scared of the Suns.

Look the Suns a far superior team to the Lakers. They have a better starting 5 and a better 6th man....however, they suck down low and really have no post presence. I see no way they can compete with grind it out teams like the spurs and dallas. Amare had a worthless game, but getting abused by Kwame and Bynum is pretty sad for a 1st team all D guy.

This was a bitter loss for Suns' fans, and should be a sweet win for Lakers fans. There's nothing better than beating a team that took you for granted, and the Suns sure did that tonight.

Sorry, not all D....first team all NBA....my bad...still getting schooled by cake boy and boy wonder is pretty sad. But that's the achilles heal of the Suns is the low post game. I don't why they don't just get a decent big man that blocks shots and plays tough D. Why go out and court Grant Hill when you don't need a guy like that. Sad really. Hey, if they trade Marion for Odom, it would solve a few problems down low.....maybe we can through in Cook as well. Good for both teams.

So what about this Lakers' performance? Was it all due to lack of def by the Suns or was this a Laker team hitting their near close potential?

They looked good playing like a team out there.

The Lakers played good team ball and hit their shots while the Suns missed their's. Now we did contest and hustled on D. We have a bigger team and used it well. We wore them down. Fish played great on Nash, and Kobe didn't try too much. I love Turiaf and Bynum is growing on me. We have a nice team, not an elite team mind you, but once Odom gets back we'll see the real Lakers...of course as long as Kobe stays.... :)

If the Lakers playing this well makes Kobe more enthusiastic about staying, they could once again surprise people.

Fricking Phil Jackson. Whenever complete disaster seems to be upon him, his team starts playing better.

Great game by the Lakeshow. Shows what passing and team basketball is all about. I hope Kobe takes note and starts passing the ball instead of this 1 on 5 crap. Our youngsters are good and we will be a force sooner rather than later, with or without Kobe. Suns defense is horrible. They're still the better team, but they play no defense at all. Looks like it's gonna be another short postseason for them and their fans.

Lakers youngsters are actually pretty damn good. Turiaf, Farmar, Bynum, now Critt are all good. They're not ready this year, but within 2 they will be solid. That's what makes Kobe's complaining all the more puzzling. It's like he can't even evaluate his own teammates. His smartest move would be to just shutup and play basketball, actually pass the ball and develop his teammates. Either way we will be good. Whether we keep him or trade him for Deng, Gordon, Thomas, and whoever.

The problem is, Kobe signed that last extention not to baby sit his young, potential teammates, but to quickly challange for championship year in & out with a rebuilt veteran team orbiting around him (instead of O'Neal as in the past).

Suns Coach Mike D'Antoni wasn't smiling in the final few minutes, particularly after Jackson called a timeout immediately after a mandatory Phoenix timeout with 4:45 to play and the Lakers ahead, 111-81. D'Antoni and Jackson exchanged words, with D'Antoni reminding Jackson the teams will play three more times this season.

"You mean the eight minutes he took over there to explain maybe one play that he probably didn't run? Yeah, I was pretty upset," D'Antoni said. "I thought he disrespected our players. But he likes to play mind games, and that's fine. He might want to try to do it in playoff time when we bust them every year. We have them three more times. . . . That's fine." (latimes)

Dantony was loudly complaining to the ref, said something about we're good, three more games blahblah flashed phil a thumbs up.
Phil yelled at him to sit down and then called him a motherfucker.
Dantony didnt say anything after that.

The problem is Kobe's not a big so whether he likes it or not a team built around a guard won't be able to challenge and win championships year in and year out. This ain't a post expansion Jordan's Bulls. Basketball is still a big mans game and winning titles goes through the post.

"Yeah, I was pretty upset," D'Antoni said. "I thought he disrespected our players. But he likes to play the mind games and that's fine. He might want to try to do it in playoff time when we bust them every year."

Jackson said he was just getting a mandatory timeout out of the way.

"He wasn't thinking straight. That's all," Jackson said of D'Antoni. "He'd understand that if he thought about it for a second. I think he thought I was trying to showboat or grandstand. But when you have a mandatory timeout coming in a minute and a half or something like that, just get it out of the way."

Last year in the Suns opener against the Lakers, the Suns didn't play Amare much. And, Boris Diaw was fat. And, they didn't lose by that much.

This year, the Lakers were playing without Odom. And, they busted the Suns open like a teenage virgin.

He was upset at Phil Jackson calling two timeouts in a row.

This actually goes all the way back to the WC Semi-finals in 2000.
D'Antoni stores up slights like a squirrel stashes acorns for winter, but that is ridiculous. Wasn't he in Italy in 2000? WTF?
