Probably at least part of it. I haven't actually watched the Mavs play yet, and J-Ho is coming back tonight so this will be there first real showing at full strength.

Thus far from what I've seen from the Rockets it seems Adelman and the new faces have solved most of their scoring issues, but it's still clear that this team is only going to go as far as Yao and T-Mac can take it.

Now that I know it's on! I glad there's something going on tonight. It's starting to become that way everynight. There's always live sports action on the tube. What other country can say that?

I wouldn't say that I care about the outcome of the game. They're fun to watch. You never know when you're going to catch a classic. Like McGrady scoring 13 points in the span of a minute. Yeah, I hate the fact that it was against the Spurs, but still it was pretty fuckin' incredible.

I'd throw out Survivor, cause SFIE usually manages about half of it before a tirade about the waste of time and the general downfall of humanity that Survivor presages, and then he walks the dog.

I don't mind watching the game, it should be interesting - I promised to bake cookies, so I won't be watching too much besides Journeyman tonight anyway. And I'll probably watch that upstairs, because I have a basket full of ironing that needs to be done. My, my, don't I sound like an industrious housewife. Trust me, I'm not. Hopefully not, Scola is a garbage defender. They need to put T-Mac on Dirk if they wanna contain him, Tall, athletic swingmen seem to give Dirk a lot of trouble, like in 04-05 in the Mavs-Rockets series and the Warriors series.

No, it's not just you. I've said the same things in other threads. From the advent of the super sub to adopting a more balanced pace during the regular season, Avery and the Mavs seem to mimic every strategic approach from the Spurs.

Furthermore, it seems every time the Mavs have a meltdown, they usually go into a public spin mode. Usually the end result will include some strategic philosophy change that is couched in some level of "Spurs speak".

Consider these audio gems that have gotten local Dallas radio airplay:

"Our guys are still developing that corporate knowledge"
- Cuban during a radio interview

"We're not trying to reinvent the wheel. We're not starting from scratch. That doesn't mean we skip steps."
- A.J during an radio interview

"Defense First"
- Mavs slogan for the 2007 season

If imitation is truly the sincerest form of flattery, the Spurs must be tickled pink.

Rockets screwed this game up. They stopped going to Yao in the 4th quarter. Why? Instead they started chucking from long-range, and as usual, T-Mac didn't deliver in the crunch time. They should have gone to Yao, let him post-up, wait for the double team then find the open man to penetrate. They tried that few times but they should have done that all the time as Dirk was in foul trouble. In the crunch time, you need to attack the basket and this is why Spurs are so good. They have the option of dumping it into Duncan and then let him work the openings/double-teams to find the open man. Adelman wants a fast running team....but this goes against the strength of Yao. Yao can't run back and forth like the Suns and have any energy left to battle inside the paint against double teams.

Spurs should play up-tempo game tonight and get Yao tired/fouled out. He is clearly their most dominant player even if T-mac thinks he is the first option. This is the problem with the Houston team. Yao should be the first option, not T-Mac. Until they figure this out, they are not going to the finals, and certainly won't beat the Spurs.

The rockets' weakness is still their pg. None of their pgs can control tempo well.

I think the best way to beat them is changing tempo during the game. It is impossible for them to following the change.

The Rockets did not stop going to Yao, he tired out in the 4th quarter. I have been to every game that the Mavs have ever played Yao in Dallas and it is always the same thing. Yao kills us for about 3 quarters and he tires out in the 4th. The Mavs know that if they run his butt up and down the court for 20-30 minutes that he gets weak in the 4th. The Spurs should do the same thing to him tonight.

It was a great game last night between 2 good teams. The Mavs were pretty short handed without the services of Harris, Damp, Bass and George and the Rockets bench is pretty good but they were no match for Jett off the bench.

It took the Mavs shooting 96% from the Line and 44% from 3 pt land to prevail.

The Rockets will be a factor this year if they stay healthy. But on the 2nd night of a B2B the Spurs should handle them if the keep the tempo up.

Bottome line, the SW Division is Bad Ass!

I didn't see too many entry pass attempts into Yao late in the 4th quarter. It was mostly T-Mac doing his one-on-one thing. When is T-Mac going to learn that is not the way to win against a deep talented team, especially in the playoffs? Between Yao and T-Mac, they should be able to open up lot of space and lanes for either each other or for the other 3 players but they stopped moving the ball around after couple of turnovers and they got nervous it seemed of turning the ball over again. Without ball movement, it's tough to score against good defensive teams like the Spurs and Mavs.

Watching the game you had to wonder why Adelman left Scola on the floor for 24 minutes. He certainly didn't add anything to the Rockets during his time on the court.

On offense at times, he appeared to be wandering around into areas owned by his teammates. At one point I wondered if the Rockets were deliberatly ignoring him as it seemed like he was in an open area but it would have taken a crisp pass to get him the ball, something the rockets were either unable or unwilling to do.

On defense, he didn't appear to be a "Dirk Stopper". When Dirk would make a step back move, Scola would be almost out of the picture. I guess Adelman was just trying him out to see what he could do on him. The answer: nothing.

My thoughts exactly. Adelman doesn't get it either which sucks for Rockets fans. However, the Mavs were very fortunate to have an exceptional night shooting the ball from distance.

Good game considering how early in the season it is. I agree with most that the Rockets lost it in the 4th. T-Mac didn't perform in the 2nd half like the first. I think I heard that he took 31 shots to score 35 pts whereas Terry took 17 to get his. Terry proved to be the more effecient scorer in the game. Tight game until the Rocket's shooting went south and the Mavs took the game.

Scola really wasn't a factor and I agree he looked lost at times. But he'll learn and be better next time. He's just getting aquainted with the NBA. Expect much more the second time around.

Even it Yao was "tired" the Rockets should've continued to go to him down the stretch. If anything just to draw fouls and send him to the line. Free Throws aren't as tiring as regular shots and the time stoppage would benefit him, too.

Mavs need new analysts.

Too much silence during some stretches, in really what was a pretty interesting game.

I didn't see enough of the 4th to comment much on whether they went to Yao or not, but as for Yao being worn out by the 4th - it's a common problem and one I expect to be exacerbated by an up-tempo game. I don't know if Yao has the stamina to make it work with significant minutes. If he can't then Adelman needs to save him in the first and third to keep him fresh for crunchtime.

In fact, Yao is playing more in high post this season, it seems he is fine in 4th quarter.

McGrady needs to learn how to keep other teammates involved (particularly Yao) when his shot isn't falling. The Rockets seemingly forgot all about their prized big man during the 2nd half. I never saw the vaunted pick-n-roll between Yao and McGrady.

Isn't that always the story with Me-Mac?
