Pssssst!
"think about it" means you wait for the question to enter your mind then you think about the pros and cons then you think am I drunk enough to post the truth, or what I think ST posters want to read? Then, and only then do you reply. You took all of 60 seconds! what does that say about your thinking ability? Are you thinking as a fan, or an owner of the team? You can take 120 seconds this time.

Why would that be?

Clutch > Choker

If you don't believe me, ask Manu if you can touch his multiple NBA championship rings, Olympic Gold Medal, Euroleague championship trophy, Italian League Championship trophy or Euroleague MVP trophy.

Simply put: Manu is allergic to losing.

What has Dirk won other than an MVP award that most of the media voters are already regretting giving him anyways?

2 guys who know how to win for 1 who can't deliver? Waste of time.
2 guys who beat up on opposing players as opposed to 1 who beats up on stationary bikes? Nope. You can keep your non clutch lil' German.

Hell yeah I Would !! An MVP for 2 quality players like Manu and TP ? We would have Washington at the point and Brent/Ime to take Manu's minutes. It makes total sense.
Who would be able to stop us with Dirk hanging out by the 3 pt line all game ?

STUPID QUESTION deserves a STUPID ANSWER.

In other words, Are you out of your fucking mind ? Manu gives more effort taking a dump than Dirk gives on the court.

Oh, Gee!!

two guys who were essential ingredients to 3 championship teams in exchange for what?

nfg3
11-06-2007, 11:11 AM
Nobrainer - HELL NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2 starters that know the system, won 3 rings and contribute in two completely different positions for Dirk? 2 All Stars/ 1 Finals MVP - the other one should've won it in 2005 IMO- for 1 addmittedly regular season MVP? The intagibles that both TP and Manu bring to the game vs. Dirk? Dirk is a good player but never equal to those two.

I hope you were just playing around and not really serious about the question.
Otherwise you're in immediate need of therapy. Lots of therapy.

Anyways what makes Dirk so untradeable? He has not shown he can win anything major but regular season MVP and 1 division champion banner. A stud that does not make him. Tim, Tony, Manu and Mike Finley are all studs.

Now I'm not saying it's a smart trade... but the mere thought of a duo of Dirk and Duncan is absolutely insane... Imagine how well they would play off each other. Dirk on the outside, Duncan on the inside... It might be the most unstoppable offense in the history of the NBA. And you would still have Duncan manning the middle on D, Bowen locking up the opponents best player and still hitting that corner 3... they would just need to find someone who is capable of running point without fucking shit up, and can hit an outside jumper, like Derek Fisher, and IMO that would be another 2 titles at least. Of course the Spurs would never do it, and I can't blame them either, but honestly, while the Spurs would lose some guard action and defense, the offense would be completely unstoppable, as they would have a duo of the best PF in NBA history, and the best shooting big-man in NBA history, and both guys are great at picking up fouls on their opponents. It would be a constant matchup nightmare.

On Dallas end, that would be a stupid trade, as we are already loaded at the guard positions. So fuck whoever thought of such a dumb trade.

If the question was worded accurately, "would you give up two all-stars with top ten ranking in their position for one all-star with top ten ranking?", I think the answer would be an obvious "No".

Then if you pile on the facts that you'd be gutting your Big 3, effectively shipping out 2/5 of your best players and add the indefinable but real qualities known as "heart" or "choking", then the answer becomes "Hell, no!"

How about Manu/Parker for Durant? I know the salaries dont match, but if they were able to make them match with KT & Ridnour, would you be willing to give up Manu & TP to get Durant? To me TP & Manu for Dirk is an easy NO...but talking about Durant, it is a much tougher decision.

Salary Considerations:

Nowitzki (2007-2008) = $16,360,095.00

Ginobili (2007-2008) = $9, 075,000.00
Parker (2007-2008) = $10,500,000.00

1. The salaries of Many and Tony exceed Dirk's by $3,214,905.00. Who else am I getting so that the salaries match? It could make a difference.

2. Dirk can't play two positions simultaneously and log 80+ minutes per game if necessary. (I can't clone him.) Obvious? Yes, but you are trading two all-star calibre players for one. You can't escape that. (A $3 million player is generally not an all-star.)

3. Traditionally, you trade big for small if you can. The problem is that this "truism" came from a time when all big men were low post players. Dirk is not a dominating interior presence. In constrast, Manu and Tony like to penetrate for high percentage baskets, and often score more points in the paint than Dirk.

4. IMHO, Dirk is not so much a choker as a guy who refused to learn to play in the post at a high skill level. He would be much more valuable as a big if he did. Since he does not, it's hard to trade him for two players as valuable as Parker and Ginobili.

Dirk hits the three, s a allstar rebounder.. he drives to the lane which is is a high percentage shot or foul. HE also doesn't choke at the end of games on free throws like duncan and defer to manu to close out games.

Nobody is trading Parker or Manu for Dirk! You don't trade to players for 1 especially since both players combined do more than that one player!

I think it is that simple. Whether we want to characterize Parker and Ginobili as all-star caibre players or roleplayers, they are both significant pieces of a championship team that cannot be easily replaced. I don't even think you consider that trade when it's two for one.

WTF, why would Mavs trade dirk and jho for Manu or one hit wonder Baron Davis? And why would we mess around with a championship team?
