I haven't been to a strip club in years so its not like it will affect my lifestyle but...WTF?...don't these goobers at the city have more important things to worry about?...what do you think?

I agree CC.

Schubert's probably just making another big stink so he can prop up his mayoral campaign.

Isn't it sickening to know that a lot of people in SA probably don't even know the candidates for mayor and the politicians know that?

I think I've seen a few signs for Schubert and they're ALL along 1604 on the north side as far as I can tell. I have yet to see anything out there for Castro, Hardberger (sp?) and Tope - although I did see a truck with an advertisement for Tope/SASports.com.

Anyways, back to the thread. I can understand the whole "must protect values" thing, but how can the city enact an ordinance and not grandfather those that were there before the ordinance?

Don't get me wrong, I'm GLAD that SA hasn't turned into Austin with a sexshop or an advertisement every 100 feet, but this city council needs to focus on a ton more other things before this.

BTW, City Council...do we even have a City Manager yet?

What the hell is going on?? Strippers having to wear badges so the city can see that they are paying a tax every year to dance. Where are they going to place them???

Badges? We don't need no stinkin badges!

To me, this is just like porn on the internet or R on your tv. You are not forced to go there. It's a choice. If it's not your bag, don't go there. Leave the next guy alone to make his/her own choice. Strip clubs wouldn't be there in the first place if there wasn't a market for them. I don't go to them but I can't say I didn't when I was younger. :angel Yes, our city council has more important things to worry about. This is definetly an attention grabber for election purposes.

This ordinance is a joke.. try repairing the streets on the East, West and Southside to get attention for a mayoral campaign.. San Antonio's city council is a joke, and its being proven once again.

Would it be considered "torture" if we tied Castro and Schubert to a chair and had one of the "girls" do a lap dance? :lol

I've always said you can't legislate morality....
sure you can...but the question then becomes, whose morality will you legislate? hardberger will get my vote simply because he isnt a member of the council...with the CPS crisis, flood problems, education, streets having holes in them for months, etc etc etc there is no reason for this crap to even be on the discussion table. the problem with san antonio is we try to act like a big city and whine that we are always in the shadow of places like dallas and houston, yet we maintain a small-town mentality and it shows through our city councils actions. im sure all the travelling buisinessmen are gonna love their stay in good ol san antonio now! hey! 3 feet away!! and no smoking either!! :rolleyes

I think it's a shitty and demeaning profession that strippers are in, but it's how they make their living and pay their bills, and they know what comes along with it - that's their choice to stay - so the reason to regulate how they do their job is what exactly? This city must be on a bad trip to think they need to worry about junk like this. Forget the homeless on the streets in the cold and the crime rate and the racial profiling cops and damage to the aquifer and excessive housing development! Sex is taboo in America and we must comdemn it (apparently)!

A person should be allowed to do with her body whatever she wants to do with it. If she can get money from some horny SOB just to strip in front of him, more power to her. If she wants to rent her pussy, she should be allowed to do that too, it is her damn pussy, not the govt's.

Yeah wake me up when the rest of the country realizes that the government holding their hand with morality is not a good thing.

This kind of social libertarian thinking is a long way off from becoming mainstream regardless of how sensical it is.

26% of people voting in the past election voted based on values. I guess we do want to government legislating morality, god forbid we see another nipple on TV.

This is what we get for having a government run by Republicans and Democrats.

The Democrats, by their nature, are fiscal socialists, while the Republics, by their nature, are social facists. What do you expect other than using all the unjustly collected tax money than to try to legislate morality?

Strip clubs charge to much to get in and to much for beer. I choose to stay home. I don't like our Shitty Council.
