James to have foot surgery
Knicks center placed on IR, out indefinitely
NEW YORK (AP) -- Knicks reserve center Jerome James will have surgery on his right foot Monday and be out indefinitely.
The oft-injured James hasn't played this season or during the exhibition season because of knee and foot pain. The surgery was decided upon after James had a bone scan, ultrasound, X-ray and MRI this week.
He will have a cyst and a small bone spur removed from the top of the foot.
The 7-foot-1 James has been a huge disappointment since signing a five-year, $30 million contract in the summer of 2005. He appeared in just 41 games last season, averaging 1.9 points, after playing in just 45 in 2005-06.
The Knicks acquired Eddy Curry shortly after signing James, immediately making James a backup.
"When we got Eddy Curry, that really changed everything," Knicks coach Isiah Thomas said. "The injuries for him, that's part of the game, I feel bad that he's been injured. That's how it goes sometimes in this league. Injuries are part of the game."
