So, I have a crazy idea that maybe I could move to SA for a year or two after I finish my Masters.
Anyone out there work for companies with large environmental management/sustainability sections? Any environmental consultants out there? Anyone know what human ecology is and apply it in their working life?
I know that I'd have to get a green card before working in the US, and that means being sponsored (ie. offered a job) before I move.
Just an idea, but I may as well start looking at the options.

I love that forum, well reading it..not posting in it. When I was thinking about moving to Dallas it was a good place to go.
Sorry RNR, I don't have any answers either. Just keep thinkin' about it. We'd love to have you up here for some time.

I've got the neatest friend I want you to meet. A total Redneck (look it up) Kilz her own meat for the year. Can drink all of our asses under the table. Makes bisquits from scratch. And belives in God. :toast She loves the Spurs, but you have to be into Super Bowl parties :lol :lol :lol
With the mining boom going on over in WA, I would think that you could write your own ticket out there, especially with a Master's in environmental studies.
Isn't the Aussie gov't still offering something like $15K cash money for folks to relocate out there?

Isn't the work VISA situation with the US a bit fucked up these days? I know a lot of my father's coworkers haven't been able to get it. They're Industrial Engineers working for big oil companies and they're still having trouble getting in. Hope you have better luck Ruff.

Austin might have more of the sorts of jobs you are looking for than SA, but work visas are very hard to come by due to abuse by the tech companies that want to pay Indians $25K to do a job that American workers would generally get 2-3x to do (not meant to be a political statement, just fact based on 25 years in the tech industry). Good luck!

yeah the H2b wich is what my company uses, is right now in limbo.
Typicaly fucked up govt, we have a way to have them legally work here and do it right paying taxes in, and the govt can't handle it.

Oh, Mark, so sorry! You hit me just at the busy part of semester then I forgot. Will look at it again tomorrow. Many apologies!
All the rest - thanks. :)
Oh, and I'd move to SA for the people, the Spurs, and the experience, not money. I can get a job here very easily, but I'll never have the chance to see TD, Manu and TP up close in their primes again. ;)
I'm at a crossroads and not sure what I want to do next, so I'm going to throw some ideas around and see what crystalises in my head/heart. I have no commitments to honour (no wife and kids or family who need me around), so I'm pretty much an FA... :lol It's a good way to be except that I'm not the best at deciding what I actually want out of life. That sounds stupid, huh?
As for WA mining, there are well-paid jobs everywhere out there, but they're mostly a long way from civilisation and you work very hard. Good if you want the money, but I don't want to work for a mining company, and money is not the driver in my life, so working in WA doesn't interest me. However, if any of you have heavy vehicle licenses or mining experience, no responsibilities, and a lust for cash, WA is where you should be headed!
