Sometimes something will spark your memory and suddenly it takes you back to yesteryear and in your mind's eye the memories are as vivid as the day they were created. This was one of them for me. Freshman in college, just hanging out on a late Saturday afternoon with my roomies. I can recall that the fight was on kind of as an afterthought, but as it progressed we becamed glued to the TV watching these guys just punish each other. We were buzzed from weed and beer and the longer Mancini and Kim wailed on each other, they quieter and soberer we got. This was back in the day were championship fights went 15 rounds and was one of the reasons they changed title fights to 12 rounds.
Maybe it's so vivid to me because of the ultimate outcome and the price both men paid...I dont know. But reading the following sure took me back to a warm, fall afternoon in Austin 25 years ago.
