Some similarities :

- in 92, Phoenix signs a superstar (Barkley); plus , Barkley was 30 when joined Phoenix

- Suns had the best record in the L; Celts have the best start so far.

- Barkley wins MVP award; it's obvious Garnett will get it this season

- Celtics will have the home court advantage in the Finals, but the battle-tested Spurs will win the 1st 2 games on the road; no sweep, series return to Boston, Garnett leaves Horry open, and Spurs repeat :elephant :elephant

2007-2008 Celtics = 92-93 Suns?

So the Celtics are going to:

-barely edge out an 8th seed after the refs give them all the calls
-shoot 65 FTs in the conference finals and cheat a superior opponent out of a place in the Finals
-play no defense throughout the playoffs

I don't see any of that happening.

The current Celtics play defense, why must people compare them to teams that don't, such as the old & new Suns and the Mavs?

Spurs vs Celtics in the finals would be incredible. It would be interesting to see how our big 3 compete with theirs. On paper, I'd have to give the Celtic's superstars the edge.
I think we're probably the only team in the league that could beat them in a 7 game series.
If the Spurs don't make the finals, it might just be the Celtics year.
