My 2-3 year old Toshiba Satellite just quit the team.

In all liklihood, I will purchase a laptop by tommorow.

Any scouting reports anybody has on price, good deals, warranties, included applications, etc. would be appreciated.

I don't need anything fancy. Just Internet and word applications. However, anything extra/cool that might be advantageous, I would consider.

Also, would it be worth the cost to avoid buying a computer with Vista and get an Apple instead?

Thank you very much for your information and help.

If you're willing to spend $ for a Mac, then go for it, definitely.

But it you want just the interbutts and Word, there is an Acer laptop I have seen at Walmart for the past few months for $400.

I've got the plain-Jane Acer Aspire from Wal-Mart, and it was like $448 last year. I only use it for web-surfing, so it's all I need. Prior to that I had a $1600 Sony Viao, which for me was a total waste. Plus the Vaio was a POS--it overheated practically every time I was on it. I've never had a single problem with the Acer.

Thanks Saphire and Lee. Mouse, I will buy my new one by tommorow, so no time to fix. Thanks though. I don't remember the model #.

Just so not to give the good people at Toshiba a bad reputation, it completely slipped my mind that about 10 days ago some girl spilt coffee that ran into the power outlet. So that's 98% in all likihood why it happened. Although, I did read about the exact same scenario happening to the same model.

Why not wait till Black Friday and get a very sweet deal? I bet in todays paper there is a sweet 800.00 notebook for 399.00 with in house instant rebate!
Best buy, circuit city, and wallmart are all having sweet deals.

I saw a nice 1,200.00 one on eBay last night sell for 299.00.
