SACRAMENTO (TICKER) -- The Sacramento Kings' bench will be a lot shorter for the next three months.

Tests on reserve guard Bobby Jackson's left wrist Thursday revealed a ligament tear that will require surgery, forcing the former Sixth Man Award winner to the sidelines for at least 12 weeks.

No date for the operation has been set. Jackson may consider a second opinion before undergoing the procedure, the team announced.

Jackson originally suffered the injury November 14 against Denver before aggravating it in the first half of Tuesday's 104-93 victory over Washington.

Battling injuries for most of the past three seasons, Jackson missed 21 games in 2003-04 after undergoing surgery to repair a broken left hand.

The 2003 Sixth Man Award winner, Jackson was averaging 11.9 points in 21.7 minutes off what has become a thin bench. Forward Darius Songaila is the only other reserve who plays more than 15 minutes per game for Sacramento (17-7), which is in second place in the Pacific Division behind Phoenix.

An eight-year veteran, Jackson has averaged 10.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 484 career games with Denver, Minnesota and Sacramento.
