Aww c'mon Taruky...don't be that way.
Some of us are genuinely happy to see you back...
You want to hate us forever for rightfully coming down on him for choking against the Lakers...who's the one holding the biggest grudge?
Shouldn't you be happy Hedo has found a home? And if you are...why so bitter?
We aren't the reason he left...Pop wanted him back...he left on his own.
It's time to let bygones be bygones :tu

That I didn't know.
I'm guessing that Taruky has the fewest posts of all original ST members.

Spurs were trying to sign Manu that offseason, they had to sign him first, he was a RFA and the Spurs had to save room to match him.
Hedo didn't even wait...he goooooooooooooone ASAP. Signed like the day after FA began...with the worst team in hte NBA.
Fact is...even though I think, and still think, Hedo is a choker...I would have kept him on the team. Because he was skilled...he was that damn long SF...
I just wouldn't have let him on the court any time we were facing a Phil Jackson team...or during a close fourth quarter.

yeah, the Hedo era in SA was strange. Everybody I knew thought he was going to be a great fit here, even the ones who hate the Spurs. And we all thought he'd be back, even after the playoff fiasco. Then suddenly he's one and done.
So Barry was plan B that offseason, I guess.

I have no no grudge against the Spurs. But you all who take any opportunity to rip him because the Spurs would not match the Magic offer, I have a grudge against. The guy was making like $1 million a season up to that point (a lot of which was going to his old team in Turkey), you think he's supposed to reject an offer of $6 million per season? Do any of you even know what the Spurs were willing to offer him after signing Ginobilli? It's possible that it was nowhere in the vicinity. Taking a guaranteed $6 million a year contract over a shorter and smaller contract isn't abandonment or "escaping pressure", it's securing your future. And frankly he's proven to be worth the mid-level exception salary.
And Hedo never bad-mouthed the Spurs after leaving.

Nope, Hedo has every right to think about his interest first and foremost, NBA is still a bussiness anyway. I don't think any logical Spurs fan would rip him for that.
He choked, he failed to deliver, that's a fact that can't be denied though. About the circumstance of his free agency in summer 2004, no one really know the real situation surrounding it.
Though i must say if the Spurs & Manu already reached a gentleman agreement before the FA signing period, both Manu & Hedo could have been resigned at that fateful summer, even a MLE type of contract for Hedo.

Welcome back, man.
Post more often and disregard whottt. He is a Manu homer.
You should hang out with the dumper. You guys have much in common.

Hey Taruky, I remember you. It's been a long time.
About Hedo, I liked him even though he tended to wilt under pressure. It wasn't for lack of trying though. He gave the effort but his game just lacks a certain amount of aggression. He has great handles for his size and he can drive when his shot isn't falling yet he doesn't do this often enough.
However, he had two great traits that we always wanted in a 3. Size and the ability to rebound. Those parts of his game I think Pop really misses.

If you look at Hedo's skills alone, it would be easy to think he could end up being a borderline all star. He's one of those guys with a lot of talent, but without the aggression or clutch play to ever approach his ceiling.
I'm sure he's a good guy, but I'm glad he's somewhere else.

Taruky is one of my favorite posters in the history of the interwebs. I'm sure he hates me, but I miss those man-love threads about Hedo.
