NEW YORK, Nov. 26, 2007 – Dallas Mavericks head coach Avery Johnson has been fined $25,000 for failing to leave the court in a timely manner and for verbal abuse of a game official, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.
The incident occurred with 8:34 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Mavericks’ 111- 107 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday, November 23 at Conseco Fieldhouse.

Are you seriously angry that he was fined? The calls may have sucked (and give the ref in question it's probably a legit beef) but AJ had a full scale meltdown out on the court. When was the last time any coach or player went off like that and didn't get fined?

Avery should get fined, but so should whoever is responsible for the scoring mixup.

Actually that is true. And really I don't care if he got fined. It was probably worth it. The ref missed a clear path/shooting foul call and called it a non shooting foul. Horrendous. And that was after they officials gave the Pacers 3 points on a clear 2 poing shot (foot across the line clearly) and it never got corrected by the scorers or anyone?

But the meltdown was pretty funny. Avery went crazy running across the court with people trying to restrain him the whole way. He went about 20 feet out on the court to the official. He knew what he was doing. He was trying to get tossed.

But the not leaving the court timely part??? Exactly how much time do you have to leave the court area after being tossed????

I think that is code for "the coach threw a four-star nutty". I don't think there is a specific amount of time but rather a "you get tossed, get out right away" which is silly because very rarely when a coach gets tossed does he just stop and walk out.
