Its funny how the name of this thread is called "When good bands make a crappy album" and the first 3 bands named are Judas Priest, Deep Purple, and Rod Stewart. Anyone else think it is ironic?

Fat Bones

Oh well, 2 outta 3 aint bad, right?

LOL which 2 are you referring to?

IMO none of those 3 bands fit the bill of "good" but thats just my opinion.

No doubt, it's all opinion. But even if you aren't into JP and DP, those albums are way off their usual standard. (Of course, Deep Purple went on to make even worse albums in the 80's and 90's but the album I listed was made by the core lineup - Gillian, Blackmore, Glover, etc.)

Rod Stewart I'll give you (although "Every Picture Tells a Story" is a good album... maybe that belongs in the other thread (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82294).)

Correct.
Priest and Purple fit the bill of "great", not "good".
Thanks for playing, though.
"Era Vulgaris" is garbage.

Only compared to other QOTSA albums. It's miles better than half the shit released by other bands.

Deep Purple is unquestionably a "great" band. Rapture of the Deep is their latest, and it's quality....if you like that sort of thing.
Rod Stewart has jumped the shark, but his early work with Ron Wood easily makes up for it.
Judas Priest was great at the time. The raw energy they brought to the stage was an awesome thing to behold. But, I guess you had to be there.
Sometime around 1980 they went down on the shark.

That's just....ewwwwwwwwwww. :loli liked them all the way up until Defenders of the Faith even though I compare it to Metallica's "Black" album. An ok album before they went to total crap. I just noticed Fat, is that sad wings for your avatar?

how could you leave ram it down off that list?!?! it only adds to how awesome i think they are that their lyrics took on a whole new meaning. how could the band not have known?

I dunno if I think it sucked, but it's definitely their weakest album. Unless you count Renegades (I prefer to pretend that album never happened).

Surely you were just taking a few liberties with the lyrics, right?
Here's the actual lyrics:

Get a grip on the action, moving heaven and earth
Gotta get a reaction, push for all that you're worth

No denying we're going against the grain
So defiant they'll never put us down

Rock Hard Ride Free all day, all night
Rock Hard Ride Free all your life

Tough as steel stop at nothing

And I'd say that last truly tolerable album Priest released was in '81.
