Manu is like so open, trailing Tony by only few yards and TP tries to go all the way in with a closing defender all over him. I wonder if Nash or Kidd would not have passed it back to MAnu for the easy 2? TP made the foul shots but why does he work so hard to get the 2 when it was so obvious he should have passed?

Parker is instructed to be the main cog on offense. Pop expects, even tells him to put up more shots than anyone else on the team. I'll agree that sometimes that seems like he's forcing shots, but everybody takes difficult shots every now and then, especially once you've reached star status. The difference with Parker is that he makes ridiculous shots look easy...and go in.

It's Parker's constant pressing on offense that breaks down opponent defenses and starts making space for Tim and our shooters.

If Tony doesn't take those shots, defenses don't have to adjust to him and ultimately, he's taken out of the game. Pop expects it. Tim expects it. Manu and the rest of the team expect it. And so far, I don't hear anybody arguing with the results.

BTW, you don't rack up 9 assists by not passing the ball, especially on a team like the Spurs who are accustomed to the extra pass.

Parker is passing the ball better this year but there are times where it's like he goes out of his way not to give it up :lol

I mean that play in particular I think every PG in the league would have given up the ball for the easy layup. Sometimes I wonder where Parker's head is. I hope he's not getting the big head and worrying about his stats.

First thing Manu does in the Post-Game Radio is call the game 'embarrassing' because of the first three quarters.

What a stud. This guy is all Spur.

true. He talked about the defense in the 1st three quarters, and how they picked it up in the 4th. Also talked about how Timmy was very good out there and got people open for the three because no one could guard him down low. Then he talked about how they needed Tony out there.

The guy has just scored 31 pts in 7-9 3-pt shooting and didn't even talk about himself.

You obviously missed Parker's bullet to baseline cutting Barry about a minute before.

I think Parker's passing this year has been vastly improved! :wakeup

I saw that and that was a great pass. And he has improved, as his stats show although some of that is because Spurs are shooting the lights out so far this season.

The thing is with his speed and ability to penetrate, he can find lot of open men as the defense collapses on him. He just needs to have a better court vision & understanding of where the open guy is instead of trying to bull his way into the paint all the time. I think he can easily up his assists to around 8 a night and if he improves his mid-range a bit more, he will be the complete package and Spurs will be a scoring machine

Spurs agreed to lose this game but Manu didn't get the memo and it was enough to win it.
Thanks to Madsen, he gives some motivation to Duncan.

yeah Duncan seemed to be fairly passive until Madsen tried to physically manhandle him and got TD really pissed.

Well, at least we know for sure TD hasn't lost it as basically he was dominant from that point on, rebounding, pressuring the defense, scoring and collapsing the defense to allow our 3 pt. shooters to do their thing.

TD normally doesn't get 40 minutes but today we fell in the hole and he ended up having to stay on the floor longer, but he didn't seem tired or slow although at the end he shut it down for the last 3 minutes when the game was over.

There are times to attack and there are times to distribute. You don't just run headlong into a wall just because coach says you must be aggressive. Playing aggressive doesn't mean doing same thing over and over again. Anyway tony is getting better.

Stats can be misleading. Yes TP is passing slightly more but I think the spurs have been shooting very well so far which may explain the higher assist numbers partly. But i do agree he is realizing that when he draws doubles or sees a wall of players, he is more likely to kick it out to 3pt. shooter more so than last year (although against Washington, he was ridiculously successful at going into multiple defenders and finishing)

I understand exactly what you are saying and maybe you are right. I thought Manu had more than 4 assists, by the way the game was looking.

""Today I was really good with that (three-point) shot. They made a decision to double Tim, and so that's where I had open shots. I've always been working on my three-point shot, especially to make them come hard and then use my penetration."

Because he's trying to get an and 1. He's confident he'll knock down atleast 2 from the stripe. Plus, Tony totally focuses on the basket when he has an opening which is why he's a top 5 finisher in the league. Tony probably just didn't see Manu and for good enough reason.

however, i did see about a minute or so where Tony did go a little selfish. With Pop though, selfish play by Tony, wreckless play by Manu, and soft play by Tim isn't tolerated for very long.

Tony seems to be improving year to year - 2 years ago he had the problem of the jumpshots and teams were capitalizing on it. Then he trained like a bitch on that and fixed it. Now they know he can take down those shots. Now it seems he is further developing his passing skills. I don't remember Tony having that many assists per game ever. I think when he finally accomodates his game to a balance between 20+ attempts/night and trying to give them +10 assists, he will be just a machine.

I really like the way you pump up yourself. Where did you learn that? in a "positive thinking" seminar? Is this what you do instead of smoking pot?

Actually I look at the Mavs record in San Antonio during the AT&T era especially after game 5 of that 2006 series and it is in our favor. That isnt the Spurs house when the Mavs stop by to kick your asses. It is the Mavs "other home" that happens to be located in San Antonio. :)

That's right!!!
Our other home just so happens to be in Cleveland. What a coincidence!

This King23, Fast Dunk, whatever name he is, cracks me up.

He comes into this blog, assumes we're going to lose when we're down double digits, calls us "SIMPLY PATHETIC" on the same night his alleged team loses to Toronto.

Yet he still comes back to talk smack.

After getting swept in the Finals by us you would think he would lay low at least until his team did something of note against us.

Or change his team to Boston, which is what I expected him to do the second Garnett landed there.

You are probably right.
Every name he uses is as obnoxious as the others.
