View Full Version : What Should Pop Do While Duncan Sits?

This probably won't happen, but I'd like to see Pop start Elson and Barry alongside Parker, Finley and Bowen for the duration of the Duncan injury--and because Horry is not yet in game shape. This line-up would set things up nicely for Parker, who could push the ball and drive and dish with even more frequency. Beyond this, Pop could find minutes for Udoka behind Bowen, work Horry into the rotation, and play Ginobli and Oberto together a bit more often. I simply do not think Bonner has earned the minutes, to go in his direction.

I could get with that. I like when Barry and Manu are out there with Tony too. Those boys like to Fly!

It'd be nice if Pop brought Dwash back and used a Run and Gun style

I don't see no changes right now,too early in the season.
Just Elson for Timmy while injured, that's all.
And maybe some more minutes for Bonner, but that's it.

Start Bonner and ride him into the playoffs. Once we get into PHX and Dallas, maybe let Duncan back in to get some of the double teams off Matt.

And put Finley on the IR or maybe Toros.

Not exactly. There is a good chance that Fab won't start again until Tim comes back since they play so well together. Didn't you notice that Pop started Elson and Bonner to start the second half and kept Fab on the becnh with Manu. My guess is that Fab and Manu are gonna be on the court together as much as possible until Tim comes back wich actually means Bonner could be starting along side Elson for a while.

I think Pop will use a lot of small ball lineups. Spurs have only 3 and a half PF/C (Oberto, Elson, Bonner and Horry who hasn't played for 6 months).
I hope we will see Udoka in these small ball lineups because I think he can really help Spurs when they play small.
Spurs can also call back Mahinmi as insurance. If Duncan rehab goes well, he will be back in Austin before Toros' next game and won't miss a single D-League game.

Pop should bring back Bob Hill to coach the team while Duncan is out

I predict Horry will play a lot more. I don't think Pop will want to totally revamp his substitution patterns, and Horry plays most similarly to Duncan, so I think he makes the most sense. But I expect his limits will be limited, to keep him fresh - Pop has been pretty limited with TD's minutes too.

I foresee long stretches of Bonner.

Thank God Horry is back. But he's in no shape to put in big minutes.

we need to start ian so we have a dominate scoring bigman on the floor and not support bigmen/oberto/eson

I think you are probably right. But I there will be stretches of small ball with only Elson or Fab or Bonner in with 4 guards.

Yup Dex that was my thought.

When Duncan sits Pop should sit alongside Tim bring a wine and drink it

Hmmm, Spurs sure could use Scola right now! I bet Pop will have even more nightmares about trading away Scola!
