I'm thinking of getting Direct tv. Any of you have it? Do you like it? Do you prefer Dish? Cable?

I was interested in Grande Cable but they're not in my area. Anyway, I heard that bad weather causes direct tv to go out. Any truth to that? Thanks for ya'lls responses!!

I switched to ATT because I had to have a land line to work from home and I didn't notice any changes with my internet speed when I switched from RR to DSL. Now I'm thinking of going with Dish with ATT since I still have TW for cable.

I have had DirecTV for like four years already. No complaints here. They're customer service is top notch. I have had the satellite go out due to bad weather a few times, but it was crazy weather and I noticed that Time Warner has gone out too during crazy weather when I have been at my in-laws. DirecTV is a lot less expensive than cable. Satellite in general is less expensive than satellite and you get the NFL Network. LOL

I have had all three and Direct TV is way above the other two. Dish network sucked ass anytime there was a problem I had to wait like 10 days to have them come out. Directtv is out next day.

I recently switched from TWC to Dish Network. And overall Dish Network has more to offer than Cable. But, I have a little disappointed with the NFL Netowork. They may have the some good games on it IE: Dallas & Green Bay. Has anyone ever watched it on a Saturday or a Sunday. Saturday's it's AFC playbook then NFC playbook and they play those same two shows for about 8hour straight. Then on Sunday's it' NFL gameday and after the 12 o'clock games they will run that show all day until the end of the Sunday night game before they update the show with the rest of the day's games.

I just switched from Comcast to DirecTV last Saturday. They gave me the remainder of the season on NFL Ticket for free. Nice! Got a free DVR too. Got it set up in the living room and my master bedroom. The porn is more explicit on DirecTV than on Comcast.

NFL Replay is the shit. They edit out commercials and downtime of the five best games every week.

Also, every Saturday, they show a new episode of America's Game which is currently featuring past SuperBowl Champions. If you don't have the NFL Network, you are missing out.

Figured I'd bump this thread instead of starting a new one.

I've been thinking about changing from cable to satellite for some time. I really want more HD channels. Cable gives me 18 :rolleyes Anyway I need the cheapest possible. I did the price comparisons on both websites and it looks like Dish is the one I'm going with. My main question is do you pay for the actual Satellite Dish? or is it included in the free setup and installation?

The dish and installation should be included for free.

DirecTV is the best for HD - and they have better customer service. Do some searches, and you can call and say that Dish is offering you X amount of free HD receivers and a free satellite dish. You might want to do some research to make sure you get the newest HD satellite dish so that you don't require two seperate ones in order to get the MPEG4 encoded HD channels (read: higher quality stations.)

That was one of my main reason for Dish is because DirectTV's HD DVR is $200 while Dish's is free. I can't afford this for another month so I'll definitely do some research. Thanks.

I found a list of all the current HD channels from both company's and DirectTV has about 6-7 more channels I would like to have compared to Dish.

DTV>Dish it's not that close. The price is cheaper with DTV for what you get too,

A lot of HD channels on DirecTV don't have any HD content.

Just sayin'.

Do you guys have the HD DVR? I was reading reviews on cnet.com of the HR20 and people are trashing it. How's your experience with it or with there receivers?

Time Warner needs to add a lot of HD channels before they loose a lot of customers...

Look at what packages you want and then go with the cheapest (or the only choice if you want something like League Pass). My experience with both Dish and Directv is they were equally good, and yes, storms between the dish and the satellite interrupt the signal.

I've had DirecTV for the last 5 years. No complaints here. Great customer service. Awesome HD channels. Very few interruptions due to weather. It has to be storming pretty bad to knock out my service, and then it is only out briefly. I would definitely recommend it.

We had TWC and switched to the Dish package over the summer. With TWC, our cable modem would go down several times daily. Plus, we are paying the same with the phone, dish, and DSL as we did with cable, but now we get all the movie channels. We only had HBO with cable. The only problems we've had is Dish going out when it's pouring outside. And we don't get NBCHD for some reason.
