Let's make this the official update thread for this movie so there isn't a drama fest about multiple threads, okay?

From the trailer the special effects are a little over the top.... those stupid Fast and the Furious movies changed the way car special effects will be handled forever. That said it still looks pretty cartoony which is good for a movie based on a cartoon. Hopefully the movie doesn't take itself seriously. If they can pull it off like Ghost Rider it will be good. Ghost Rider was pretty much a comic book come to life.

I haven't seen Speed Racer cartoons since I was a kid but I'll probably see this movie.

And if they changed the car number to 6 (last pic in Red Hood's post), I can imagine that will piss off any fans of the show... wasn't the car's number in the cartoon 5?

It may just be a prototype that gets wrecked causing Pops to design the Mach 5. I doubt they will (permanently) change something so minor yet so important, changing the 5 to 6 is not like adding flames to Optimus Prime.

That's not Speed racer's car. He is, indeed, the number 5 car.

EDIT: Could be Rex Racer's car that he crashed before becoming Racer X?

I have to rewatch the old cartoons...if I can sit through them.

But I have good memories of the show; it was enough to get me to watch Transformers and will be enough in this case as well.

Edit: Trailer is friggin psychedelic, wonder if they're going to passing 'shrooms out with every popcorn order.

Told ya, it has that whole Tokyo video game cartoon thing going on. I have fond memories of the cartoon and I remember seeing it on Cartoon Network back when the network first started. :nerd

Never paid much attention to the cartoons, but Emile Hirsch is a great actor and the trailer was interesting.

I'll call this remake movie (and every other remake movie) gay with a capital g.

I'm surprised Hugo Weaving isn't in this movie given the Wachowski's fetish of including him in their movies.

Kinda reminds of that guy, Miyazaki.

Old school Cartoon Network was damn good...Scooby Doo everyday.
