The one i think should be looked at that people have been a little quiet on is Diop's foul on Manu after the dunk play... no play at the ball

Oh, wait. The dunk. That was J-Howard hitting Manu across the grill.
Diop didn't foul him that play either.

Desperate times. Mavs don't have an answer when some1 wants to play tough, hard nosed offense. They think hard fouling is the answer but that just doesn't work on you know who. While i'll agree the Mavs were unsportsmanlike in the Mavs-Spurs game, i don't think the league is going 2 do anything about it. In the long run it makes for exciting basketball and after what the Spurs-Suns series did for ratings last year, i know the NBA wants to see more rivalries.

Yep, that was the play where Howard went straight for his head. If the NBA looks at it, should draw Howard a fine and possible suspension.
You had to know the past two playoff seasons....the way the Mavs went out, that soon they would probably start to unravel. I think we are witnessing that now.
Wonder how much disention there is in the locker room after these losses? I would sure love to be a fly on the wall in that locker room after these games.
Will Avery hang himself before his Jersey is raised in the AT&T? Or will he simply implode and have a heart attack?

No complaint: Popovich was not surprised the Mavericks resorted to some physical tactics in a vain attempt to slow down Ginobili on Thursday. The Spurs guard burned Dallas for 37 points.
Hot players often are treated with cold, calculating tactics.
"It's a contact sport," Popovich said, "and you have a guy who's having a game like that, the opponent is going to lay some lumber on them."

Actually it was the play after Howard his Manu across his grill and dunked right in Diops face, that's why Diop fouled him so hard on the next play.

Devin Harris's flop routine is getting out of control, as well.
All Mav fans will disagree of course, so I'll just go ahead and say it for you: "Uhhh... Nash and Raja flop!!!"

Hopefully Mark Cuban isn't made the lead investigator. I would love to get his reaction to the cheap hits, given his supposed objective critique of the refs.
He had Salvatore peeing in his pants that game after Cuban called him out a few weeks ago, so Bennet didn't call hardly much, except that ridiculous change of possesion call when the Mavs shot clock is running out and Manu is juggling the ball after a steal.

Did you guys see when Terry fouled Manu (maybe this is the Terry's hard foul that everyone is talking about?). Manu fell on the floor and as he was getting up, I guess Terry was trying to ask if he was ok, and Manu kept saying "Don't touch me, don't touch me" You can see it here at the 2:35 mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3t_Uxyp7pE
Seems like Manu doesn't have much love for Terry either :lol

:clap I'm glad they're looking into this. I get that it's a "contact" sport, but there's a fine line between being physical and trying to hurt someone because they're beating your team.
Of course, Pop is going to have the response he had. I'm willing to bet Manu and the rest of the team would say the same thing. That's how this team operates. But that doesn't mean inside they aren't hoping for a review of the situation.

Yeah I saw that, I don't blame Manu for feeling that way. Terry was playing nice for the refs and knocking Manu and Tony to the ground then he gives Manu the whole "I'm sorry for being a little bitch by knocking you and your teammates to the floor but, hey let me help you up now."

The Diop Karate Chop across Manu's face with no attempt at the ball is the only one worth a fine and suspension. The rest of the fouls were just hard. The Diop crap doesn't belong in basketball.

I haven't seen a foul hard enough to justify a suspension.
The problem is more about the accumulation of hard fouls. Fouling hard Manu looked like a tactic or a consign given by Mavs staff. I'm not sure the nba like that kind of tactic and I can see them giving some fines and warnings to be sure that Mavs won't do the same thing during the next game against Spurs.
As a Spurs fan, I've no problem with a team fouling hard Spurs' player as long as there are no injuries. Spurs' team is very tough and hard fouls effect is only to motivate them more.

I didn't see anything worth a suspension. Its true that Diop practically smacked Manu, but shit like that happens in a physical game. I say let it go. Besides, they've already lost 2 games in a row, I'm sure they're feeling like shit about it.

The great thing about the Mavs is that although they're dirty as fuck and unbelievably hatable, they're also complete choke artists, so at end of the day you get the satisfaction of watching these classless assholes totally implode.
So different from the Laker years when you had to watch in pain as those guys actually won something.

The DIRTY play is the one no one even mentions...
That was when Elson got called for the foul on Terry when Terry was leading with his foot trying to kick him in the nuts...
That was the dirtiest play Terry had all night... It was right in front of me.
Terry got kicked in the nuts accidentally by Manu early in the game and kind of hovered around him for like 30 seconds talking... Manu walked up to the ref to tell him what was going on...
I looked at the person next to me and said "Terry is going to try and hurt Ginobili this game"...
Right after halftime... He throws manu to the floor.

I agree. The coaching staff had to have told their team to foul hard when the opposing team was driving hard to the basket. After the initial foul if Terry was actually losing his cool Avery would have pulled him don't ya think? Yet even after the 2nd hard foul he wasn't told a thing by the staff. I myself don't mind the team getting fouled hard. After all, i didn't say a thing when Horry fouled Nash last year. that was definately a planned hard foul meant 2 say something 2 the Suns. This rivalry is great and i for 1 can't wait til the next game.

Howard gave a hard foul and so did Diop, but you could argue that they were making a play for the ball, didnt look like it but you could argue it. Manu was going hard at the basket so they received him hard too, thats basketball. However i think that the Terry after the foul foot grab was the most dangerous and the one that awards a fine. Its one thing smacking a guy or throwing your body at him its a whole nother thing when you grab the guy's foot mid air and pull forward. That shit is dangerous.

It reminded me the hard fouls on Manu vs the Nuggets in the 05 playoffs.
And those fouls in 05 were all intentionally hard and the coach gave the order to do so.

I don't see how we can complain about contact when Gino and TP are the ones creating the contact every time, if you are going to consistently jump into defender and flop to the ground, expect some hard fouls here and there.
to our guys's credit though, at least they make the baskets, unlike a certain Miami player who just tosses the ball up and goes to the line for 2, the most disgusting way to score points in basketball. :madrun

I don't care how much a player is flaming you. You can't resort to kick him in the nuts and try hurting him for real. Players should be more careful. If they find out he actually did it in purpose he should be exampled accordingly - a several games suspension or something lke that so they don't do it again. Sorry I come across real hard but that's not the way.
Bruno

And I don't have a problem with people shooting at me as long as they miss.
It's quite different.
The goal of someone who shoot at you is to injure/kill you.
The goal of Mavs players when they do hard fouls on Manu isn't to injure him but to send him the message "don't come in the paint".
Now, when a team do hard fouls on Spurs players, it's a good thing for Spurs as long as they have no injuries :
- Spurs team is tough enough to continue to play the same way. Manu won't stop driving to the basket because of a hard foul.
- The opposite team is more focused on doing fouls than playing defense.
- It has good consequences for Spurs : Free throws, technical fouls and suspensions.

i agree with bruno, but think that the two fouls terry did to manu in mid air arent hard fouls, they are cheap shots. i understand he is trying to prevent a continuation, but you do that by hugging the guy, not tugging on his limbs in mid air- that is an injury waiting to happen.

I think this definitely deserves a fine/flagrant or suspension for Terry, I had started a thread earlier about this specific foul. I mean Terry grabbed Manu's arm AFTER the foul was already called...that was definitely intentional and dangerous...Manu fell pretty hard to the floor...I can't believe all Terry got was one technical for that...There could have been a serious injury there...
I think there is a thin line between physical stuff and dangerous/unnecessary/on purpose stuff.
And as for Pop, I get that you don't want to whine, etc...that's the Spurs have class...but it's a whole other thing when a player is in danger...The NBA needs to investigate this especially...
