Calvin Johnson counted 2.8 mil against the Lions cap this year, so New England will start out with 8.1 mil to get 12 players resigned, including Randy Moss.

I think the Cowboys are in pretty decent shape...20 million is not bad...considering how much youth they have on that team. But I don't really know who they even have signed on.

I dont expect the Fins to draft a running back especially when they have shit for a qb. That will mean the Pats will draft McFadden! Man that will be SICK. Keeping this core intact and adding McFadden will make this team sicker than this year. Maroney can be traded or accept a backup role.

Even though the Pats have done an amazing job with the cap, this is a case where I'm always pulling against the San Fran so that they'll get a very high pick making it difficult for them to trade it forcing their hand to pick and choose. Either they sign Randy Moss who is an UFA, or they sign their top 5 pick. They have an aging defense and they have several key UFA including LB Teddy Brushchi , stud DB who I'd love Dallas to sign Asante Samuels, DB Randall Gay who is a nickel but they place a premium on him, and DB's Tory James and Chad Scott. Their going to have to pick their poison and let some premium players walk.

I expect the Pats will trade the pick their top 5 pick which may include DMac, and the uproar will be heard around the league, that 'they didn't get good value for the pick', just as the pundits said last year when they traded the #28 pick for a 2007 4th rd pick (Moss), and the niners 2008 pick.

The real decision revolves around Moss, will he take less to stay with the Pats? If so, Stallworth is a goner.

One big thing that is missing here is Donte Stallworth. His cap figure for 2006 is 6.3 million. If he is cut after June 1, 2008, then his 2008 cap hit falls to 800,000.
The other player to look at is Roosvevlt Colvin. He has a huge cap hit next year of 7.3 and is in the final year of his deal. He might be willing to restructure instead of testing the open market, considering he gets hurt just about every year like clockwork. Any restructing for Colvin would just lower that 7.3 2008 cap hit.

And one other depressing thought, if the lose Seau and Bruschi don't be surprised if they sign Zack Thomas or Ray Lewis for a few years.

Moss will be 31 but hell get his worthy paycheck raise. Most of those guys we will let walk. Teddy will take a paycut so will Colvin if it means keeping our amazing dynasty going. I agree with you on all fronts. I can see Samuels going to Dallas while Jerry has 20 mil to spend. And with how good Dallas is now,Jones will spend what is necessary to get imporve this 12-1 team to ensure a Super Bowl.

The pats have done a good job at selling themselves to their players and getting them to take paycuts. But something tells me Moss is going to want Moss-type money. I don't see this guy willing to take a pay cut. Especially if they win the Super Bowl. Thats of course IF they make it there.
