Gina Carano "crush" is hot as hell. I watched her fight in the eliteXC ultimate fighting thing...she kicked ass too.

im not sure how someone with big boobs like that can be such a hard ass.

AG was an idea that worked well as early-1990's syndicated programming. It will be an absolute miserable failure on NBC.

NBC is really circling the drain. GE has squeezed about all the life out of it that it can. Time to sell.

Even though one could argue that this new version of American Gladiators singularly personifies everything that is wrong with television today, I will admit to looking forward to the show. The old American Gladiators is still one of my biggest guilty pleasures.

If they try to take it too seriously, though, it will suck horribly. The cheesiness is about 87% of the appeal.

Since the show is from the 80s you know the new one won't be cheesy. I can almost guarantee that they'd get all serious and shit.

These days just aren't the same as back then. Bring back Mr. Belvedere and watch, the fucker would be Cedric the Entertainsucker

I'll watch. It will likely suck, but dammit I'm a patriot so I'll watch.

They can revamp the show til they are blue in the face, but there are a few things that they really should hang onto from the original.

1. Bring back Larry Czonka. "He got Zonked!" blows John Madden's "Boom!" right out fo the water.
2. Refs in executioner's masks. They only did it in the first season, but I think if they stuck with it they could have gotten some Emmys. Old guys in zebra shirts with whistles are so stereotypical.
3. Old school assault course. As the show progressed it began to resemble Tron more and more. Back in the day the cover was made to look like an actual warzone.

Does anyone remember a short lived AG knock off called Battle Dome? Basically instead of relying on their contestants to be interesting they used WWE style storylines with the 'gladiators' who had wrasslin' style gimmick personas. Looks like Justice and Titan are alumni of that clusterfuck. IIRC correctly Titan used to have the Dahm triplets escort him to the events he participated in. Lucky SOB.

For me, the show really hit it's stride around '92-'93. Close to the time they added the deaf chick gladiator.

Although... that could just be because I thought Sabre was cute when I was in high school.

1. Bring back Larry Czonka. "He got Zonked!" blows John Madden's "Boom!" right out fo the water.

Also, according to the Wikipedia entry for the new show, Czonka and Mike Adamle are both out. New hosts will be Hulk Hogan and Laila Ali.

What the fuck was that?

They just showed female powerball and the camera work was like straight out of a fucking Michael Bay film

You can't show a contest like that with 1st-person camera work, constantly switching from one angle to another, i couldn't even tell what the hell was going on
plus they had sound effects every time someone was hit....wtf

i know its 2008 and these executives from Yale think they're geniuses but a mostly stationary camera is all that is needed for something like that
you really couldn't even tell what was going on

But it was hilarious to see Venus somehow comeback and get the win.

Crush is the only reason I watch this. Wolf is making me not want to watch it.

But that first women's eliminator was pretty exciting IMO, and funny too to see that black chick's long legs work against her. She had it in the bag and totally sapped herself and then just gave up.

I'll watch just for Crush :hat I agree with LaMarcus, Wolf is annoying already.

They need to bring back the original commentators though, Hogan and Laila just don't seem to have any flow.

I wonder how I would fare against those steriod indulging bufoons?

Titan is a beast, Toa is tongan I can just tell by his chant's/war cry's, they're dangerous people. The rest of the male gladiators are just big people.

I agree with CBF and AHF Crush is pretty gorgeous. Helgga is hilarious, I think she is there for the stereotypical(big euro/russo girl) comical relief.

I'd probably pwn in Gladiators.

Another reason to watch: The Hulkster. If Hulkamania starts running everybody should just drop down and shit their pants.

I was disapointed, and I already had low expectations for this thing.

Whoever said the camera work sucked was spot on. Too many camera shifts and stupid angles. And who the hell redesigned powerball? The scoring cylinders used to be about the size of an office waste basket, now they might as well be dumpsters!

For the most part the contestants were so annoying that I was actively routing against them. Around the time that the "life coach" mentioned that she was a life coach for the third or fourth time I began hoping she'd get snapped in half. Watching her hang on for dear life as her opponent somehow beat was hilarity.

Overall the show just feels over produced and edited. The original didn't have any illusions about what it was: a group of gigantic people tossing around smaller people. There were times where this one felt like it was trying to convince us that this is quality, life affirming television. They went way deeper into their contestants lives and tagged shitty piano music on top of it as well.

And finally, the grand prize is STILL 100k? How many reality shows have bigger prizes than that don't require risking life and limb at the hands of roided out monsters? To quote tlong, unbeavable.

I completely agree with these two points....but yet I still liked the show alot. Maybe it was just the nostalgia of it all.

Another beef I had was that it appeared that the Gladiators need a hell of alot more practice ate the different events. The looked like amateurs.

The rings appeared way too easy for the competitors to win. Same with Joust.

And I could really do without Hulk and Ali.

I posted this at Duel's board this morning about the show.

OK, you all know I LOVE wrestling, right. Now I admit my passion for American Gladiators. But I was left a bit let down last night. As cheesey as it was in the 80's and 90's NOTHING compared to last night. Why sooo over the top scripted? These contestants and Gladiators tried WAY too hard to sell themselves and it looked like Ameatur Wrestlers at like training level.

Those who watch wrestling know the BEST wrestlers of all time really don't try hard to "SELL" the charecter, they ARE the charecter. I just don't remember Gladiators being that OVER the TOP, and yes I watch the re-runs! I just found it odd. Could not find any Gladiator to want to root for and man the contestants this week sucked! I'll give it another week, but that may be it

I like it. Some what. Cheese is thick, which is a good thing.

Otherwise, just an observation...

3rd episode (Hebrew Hammer injury to knee in first event (powerball), Christian Fuckwad takes his place). The black dude was dominant in the events. Everyone knows points are used for the headstart in Eliminator.

Anyway...

I laughed my ass off during the male Eliminator. Its like every stereotype just came true about black people and "not being able to swim". The dude was dominate throughout the show, but the moment he jumped in the water, he was a dead duck.

Funny watching someone that doesnt have any clue how to swim try it. He was under the water kicking his legs as fast as he could (with no help from his hands, btw). I was laughing so hard, I almost dropped my beer.

I want a .gif of that. His little legs kicking like speedy gonzalez going less than 1mph underwater. Classic.
