I don't think they have a shot... i heard if Cleveland wins next weekend they lock up a playoff birth, so I think they own the tiebreaker?? (correct me if i'm wrong)

They play Cincy next week and San Fran the week after that

Tennessee still has the Colts on their plate.

While the Jaguars have 2 creampuff games with Raiders and Texans

If Vince lucks out (like he did last year in making the pro bowl as a FORTH option), he will get raped in the first round. It won't be because his team "sucks", its because he is over-rated and will be nothing more than a great college player and a sucky pro player. Fuck all the Vince homers!!

That may be true but he is a step up from Carr. Plus Rosenfels is 4-0 as a starter. So if the Browns kick ass next year are you going to be a browns fan?

He played pretty well yesterday.

That's his problem; consistency.

One of the AFC scouts said it best: "At some point, you have to make throws from the pocket in the passing game. He'll have some good games, but week in and week out, every week is chaos to him.

"If your biggest threat is pulling it down and running, maybe there's a reason."

Some Vince homers say its because he doesn't have talent around him, which I think is just an excuse. As you said he is not consistent. You can't have that as your team leader.

He's still young, but if he doesn't improve by this time next year, he probably never will.

And the scouts compared his throwing motion to that of Carr and Harrington.

Ouch.

and yet somehow Vince's team is fighting for a playoff spot in the AFC. All Texans fans are doing is celebrating useless sacks by Mario Williams.

Yeah he had a good game last week, but his number have been poor all season. Last week was the first time he had a QB rating above 100 for the season.

Texan fans aren't necessarily celebrating Mario's "useless" sacks, we are celebrating the big strides our team is taking. That's what fans do when they support a team that has sucked for years and is finally turning it around. If you were a real Pats fan, which everyone knows you aren't, you would've experienced the same thing in the late 90's, but you don't since you are a pussy bandwagon fan.

LOL wow if he gets thrown into the category of those guys, you know that has to be pretty bad. Still young, yeah he is but in the case of Carr and Harrington, they haven't improved and were sought out to be future stars. I said this day one, (and not because the Texans passed on him, I was happy about that) Vince will be one of the best college players that we have ever seen, however he won't be a great NFL QB. A mobile QB has proven that they cannot get the job done.......ex Moon, Culpepper, Mcnabb, Vick. Sooner or later you have to throw the ball and be a pocket QB. Yes running is a bonus and should be a last resort. Bottom line, VY isn't accurate and probably never will be.

I wouldn't put VY in the Carr/Harrington mold, but it just goes to show how much work he has to do on his mechanics.

If he does fix his footwork and/or throwing motion, he should easily be a top 5 QB IMO.

Vince could be Ryan Leaf and still fuckstomp the Texans every time the Titans played them. He might be a bust, he might turn into one of the worst picks ever at the three spot, but Houston is still 0-4 against his team since he's been drafted (0-3 when Vince actually plays, I'm aware that Collins played in the first game this year). That being said, I love the fact that "some" Texans fans feel that they have to tear Vince down in order to make the Mario pick look good. Both are going to be good players. The Texans have to be happy with the way their team has played in the second half. Tearing down Vince makes you look bitter. Maybe your team will actually beat his in this decade. Until then, the Texans are his bitches.

Its funny how this thread turned into a Mario vs Vince and Titans vs Texans. I threw out my opinion on Vince and MONOBANDWAGONWHORE started stirring the pot because he is a dooche. I hadn't even mentioned Mario until now. Do I think the Texans made the right choice. Its hard to say, I for one didn't want Reggie and VY, so was Mario the next best player, maybe and he is proving he wasnt wasted pick this year. Yes we have yet to beat the Titans since VY was drafted. Do I think its because of Vince, no like you said Ryan Leaf could have lead that team to beat us. We have been horrible and yes this year we have made huge strides, but we are still far away.

They're going to get there. The Texans have made significant strides and have impressed everyone (except for K-EYE in Austing who still refuses to show their games). You have to give Vince credit for those Houston wins, regardless of whether you believe he's a qualified NFL quaterback. The man has been outstanding (as compared to his other games) when he plays the Texans.

Passing stats v. Houston

47-75 553 yards 3 touchdowns 2 INT 87.3 passer rating

Not great, but serviceable.

The problem has been Houston's inability to stop his legs...

16 rushes for 174 yards at 10.9 yard/run avg with 2 touchdowns. Damn.

Kill his running ablility, which Houston should be able to do seeing as how it's developing one of the better defenses in the league, and you beat them.

I'm just saying that those are 3 very good QB's. McNabb and Young were very mobile. Cunningham was a very good QB that was mobile as well. Sure, McNabb and Cunningham don't have rings, but it doesn't change that they are/were elite QBs. Being mobile, with less throwing ability than someone like Peyton Manning or Carson Palmer doesn't mean you can't be a great QB.

Now your bringing up the cowboys vs Texans?? Way to stay on topic. The state of Texas is Cowboys country, I don't deny it. First off let me ask you a question, do you live in Austin? I have been to the Austin chapter of the Texans fan club and there are way more than 100. A lot of them are longhorns and love what vince DID. Back to the original topic of the thread...

I doubt the Titans make the playoffs this year, but if they do they could be a scary team with their defensive ability. If Vince has one of his "on" days in the playoffs it could be very bad for someone. I wonder what Fisher thinks about Vince's progress and potential to progress farther in the future? He definitely needs consistency, and that starts with limiting the turnovers. He needs to work on throwing within the frame of the offense and not into tight, double, or triple coverage, but if he gets that down he could be very good. I'd give him another season and really stress taking the throws that the defense is giving.

Lived in Austin for 5 years and still have friends and business associates there. So I still spend alot of time there. Im not trying to make this Cowboys vs. Texans because that would be too easy. Texans don't come anywhere near the Cowboys. Im mearly correcting and educating you on how people feel about Vince in Austin. How many folks were at your gay Texan chapter in Austin????? Well there are 1.5 million people living in Austin and bet that the vast majority of that number are Cowboy fans and could give a shit less about the Texans, therefore making it easy to root for Vince, a player they followed while he was here. A player that took Longhorn fans to 2 rose bowls, beat USC and brought home a championship. If you think for one damn minute we will forget that, the fuck yourself.

I know it raises a lot of up-roar talking about Vince. There are a lot of people that love him especially in Austin. Yes a lot of Houston fans wanted him in Houston and that first victory he had against us showed it all. The fans went crazy. I for one didnt "hate" him when he was first drafted but I for one am now SICK of the way people continue to suck his dick when he hasn't done shit. Yeah he made the pro bowl last year, but was a 4th alternate. To me that is NOT making it, but that is just me. Its funny to see the Vince Homer get his panties in a bunch defending his "man".
I'm wondering who all is "sucking his dick"? There are a few fans here that love him, including me, and think that he will be an elite QB. He isn't hardly talked about in the media, and about the only person that makes it a point to talk about him every chance possible is Merril Hoge, who is a total moron and hater of VY for no reason whatsoever.

Then again, Sims and Jammer didn't singlehandedly win Texas a title, while having unquestionably the greatest single performance in College Football history, all while upsetting the "greatest college football team in history", did they?

Well there are a few who post here that ride his jock, one of the posted earlier. I guess i meant that from a Austin perspective. True he has been quiet in the media as of late. I just seem to always argue this topic and its just a matter of opinion. I don't think he will be great and win a title and for my opinion I get called an idiot ex Zack and Ofactor. Like I said before if you look at his stats without showing his name, everyone would say man this guy isn't very good, am I right? His future of course, only time will tell. Maybe ill be proven wrong, but maybe I a right. No one will really know. I tired to stay on topic, but others that defend him start bashing either the Texans or the Texans qb. There are a lot of Texans fans that are tired of hearing about Vince and I think a lot of this has to do with Keye, but thats another story.

I know that isn't VY's fault and like what was said the Majority either love the cowboys are love Vince and don't care about the Texans. With all of that aside and with my newfound animosity for VY, I still even before he was drafted said that I didn't believe he would excel in the pros the way he did in college. Vince was awesome as a rookie (as long as you keep in mind he was a rookie), but he's definitely been a disappointment as a Sophomore. You'd think with all the work he's put in, he would have improved more than he has.

He has improved his completion percentage considerably, up to an acceptable level (around 62%), but his TD/INT ration absolutely blows, and he's not making as many big plays with either his arm or his legs. He actually has managed to cut down his fumbles slightly even though he's lost just as many.

If he can correct his INT problem this offseason he'll be dangerous next year.

Hopefully the Colts will rest everybody like they have been and the Titans will win next week. I'd like to see how VY does in the playoffs since he's "known" for stepping up in big games.

That's a very interesting scenario with every week from here on out is a 'big game'.

I don't know if he has enough weapons around him to do anything remarkable against the Chargers at full strength, but the Colts on cruise control are doable.

Titans had trouble scoring against the Jets. The Jets, people. If the Colts play starters even for just the first half, that's probably good for three Manning TD passes and one Addai TD run. I don't think the Titans will manage to score 5 TDs on the Colts, and that's assuming the backups (most of them have started and/or played huge minutes all year) don't get touchdowns or within Vinatieri's range a few times in the second half.

I think Indy wins this game because they realize Cleveland won't beat SD or Pittsburgh. The Titans probably won't either, but the safer play is letting Cleveland in so that Jacksonville advances, the Jags play NE and not Indy. If the Titans get in and both they and Jacksonville advance, the Colts play the Jags and that's something they don't want.

You're kidding, right? You think the Colts will score 4 TDs in a half when last time they scored 2 TDs in the GAME?

That is seriously overdoing it there. Especially when you take into account the injuries they've had since then.

Addai and Gonzales won't be playing much (if at all) because of injuries they suffered last week, and of course Harrison appears to still be out. I doubt Manning will play much more than a quarter given the Colts history with meaningless games.

The Titans have a good shot to win what will probably end up being a low scoring game.

That's so off base it's not even funny. Considering a pitcher is a solitary player only communicating with one other guy on the field, while a quarterback has to lead 10 other men, makes it ridiculous to compare the two.

a pitcher's W/L total depends on how he personally pitches and the rest are elements completely out of his control. a quarterback has to work in sync with 10 other guys, be a leader on and off the field, and communicate with the coaches.

a pitcher's W/L total depends on how he personally pitches and the rest are elements completely out of his control. a quarterback has to work in sync with 10 other guys, be a leader on and off the field, and communicate with the coaches.

It's a lot easier to separate a baseball player from his team than it is to separate a football player from his team. I'll grant you that as I assume that's what your point was.

My point is simple: W/L is not strictly dependent on QB or P performance. Performance is a factor, moreso as a pitcher, but not always the deciding factor in the outcome. Things as simple as missing a block or misplaying a fly ball can mean a loss instead of a win or vice versa. Stellar QB play and 7 stellar innings from the starter can mean nothing at all. W/L record is simply not a good indicator of performance. Which is why...

....W/L total is a meaningless stat for QBs. Eli Manning has been horrible this year and just because the Giants, as a team, have won 10 games doesn't change that fact. The same for Grossman last year. The only reason VY gets a pass from me is that it's only his 2nd year and his WRs have been so bad. That doesn't mean he hasn't been horrible this year. If the stats came under the name of Leinart, you'd have a field day with them.

It's really rather simple in the NFL: if you can run the ball and stop the run, you can win games in this league, regardless of QB play. In fact, those two things tend to mask deficiencies of the overall team. Look no further than the 2007 Minnesota Vikings and 2007 Tennessee Titans for proof of that.

I guess it goes back to does the QB make the other players on offense better or do the other players make the QB better? I don't have an answer to that as it's unique within each situation.

As for the 27-20 TOS, that's my bad. I should have known taking them from CBS's fantasy talking heads.

Are you on crack man? You and all of the other Colts haters must be (or you're just blind) because people have been playing the injury card on us all year and we keep winning. The Patriots beat us by four points while we were playing with only one good receiver the whole game. Peyton had a rough game in Oakland but he delivered when it counted... other than that the Colts offense has been on fire for the past 4 games.

Addai and Gonzalez didn't come back in the game because the Colts had the rout on by that point. There was no need. And does it matter if Harrison plays or not? Clearly his absence has ruined the Colts shot at a title defense.

I don't know what season you've been watching man but I don't see the Colts mailing in a division game at home, even if it's Week 17 and they have nothing to play for. They had nothing to play for last week either and the Texans went home with two broken legs.

I've been paying at least a little attention. Personally I think a healthy Colts beats the Patiots. I've been actually very impressed with how well the Colts have overcome their injuries. Not so much Harrison since the Colts run with 2 #1 receivers anyway, but some of the others seemed pretty daunting.

I just don't see them running up the score. In the first 7 games this season, the Colts scored less than 29 once, against the Titans. In those games they gave up more than the 20 to the Titans once. They've only given up more than 20 points 4 times this year.

Addai and Gonzalez are indeed suffering effects from their injuries. There is no reason TO play them, and good reason not to, at least not more than a series if at all. I'll be really surprised if they play significant amounts, just because it'd be an idiotic decision by an intelligent coach.

Even with them, the Titans D is exceptional as long as Haynesworth is crashing up the middle, and over the last couple years, Colts-Titans equals a low scoring game (by Colts standards), and close.

Listening to some of the VY homers here is comical. Vince hasn't led shit. To credit him with the Titans record is a joke. Quincy Carter went 10-6 with the Cowboys, that doesn't mean he was a good quarterback.

A game by game look at how Vince has supposedly "led" the team.

Week 1: 13-10 victory at Jacksonville.

Vince goes 11-18 for 78 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT but has 11 rushes for 22 yards and a TD. 47.9 QB Rating.

Unless 100 yards of offense out of your QB is suddenly earth shattering (Jax gives up 236 ypg passing), I think it is safe to say that it was Tennessee's defense limiting Jones-Drew and Taylor to 48 yards on 13 carries that won the game.

Week 2

22-20 loss home versus the Colts.

This was actually one of Vince's better games statistically. 17-27 for 184, 1 TD, 0 INT to go with 53 yards on 5 carries. 95.3 QB Rating. A hint at a trend soon to emerge... strangly, the better Vince's stats, the less games Tennessee wins.

Week 3

31-14 win @ New Orleans.

Another pretty solid game by Vince standards. 14-22 164 Yards, 2 TD, 1 Int, 5 rushes 21 yards. 97.6 QB Rating. Vince certainly led the team to the win here. Prompoted the front page of ESPN.com to read "In-VINCE-able".

Week 4

Bye. I think the only time all year Vince didn't fumble or throw an INT.

Week 5

20-13 win versus Atlanta at home.

Vince: 20-33, 157 yards, 0 TD, 3 Int, 8 Rushes 27 yards. QB rating 34.5

A game that took the forward pass back 100 years. Anyone care to try and claim Vince was the deciding factor in this one?

Week 6

13-10 Loss @ Tampa Bay.

Vince: 11/14 120 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 carries 6 yards. 72.6 Rating.

Vince leaves the game in the 3rd quarter, Kerry Collins comes in and leads Tennessee to their only TD of the game. Tennessee leads time of possession 38 minutes to 22 in this game and still loses.

Week 7

38-36 win @ Houston.

Vince doesn't play, Kerry Collins leads Tennessee to their highest point output since Vince joined the team (still waiting to be surpassed by Vince). Hard to give Vince credit for this win since he didn't play.

Week 8

13-9 win over Oakland at home.

Vince: 6/14, 42 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT, 7 carries for 11 yards. 50.3 QB rating. Seriously... is this Pop Warner?

Week 9

20-7 win at home over Carolina.

Vince: 14-23, 110 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 8 carries 25 yards 1 TD. 36.5 QB Rating.

These were the kind of performances that had people calling for Rex Grossman's head last year. But Vince gets a free pass from Tennessee and UT fans. Curious. Did Vince "lead" the team here? Doesn't look like it.

Week 10

28-13 home loss to Jacksonville.

Vince: 24-41, 257 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT, 8 carries 52 yards. 64.8 QB Rating.

IIRC, this was Vince's highest passing total of his career at that point. But, a rather bad loss for a team that was thick in the playoff hunt at that point.

Week 11

34-20 loss at Denver.

Vince: 26/41, 1 TD, 2 Int, 11 caries 74 yards. 73.8 QB Rating.

Jay Cutler, who we were just told sucks by a Vince-homer, posts a 137.0 QB rating in a drubbing of Vince's team. Had the Titans won we would have likely seen more "In-VINCE-able" headlines after this performance, the first and only time he's ever eclipsed 300 yards passing. But instead, it's just VY leading his team to another loss in one of his better statistical days.

Week 12

35-6 loss at Cincy.

Vince: 19/31, 246 yards, 0 TD, 1 Int, 2 carries, 6 yards. 72.3 QB rating.

Vince looks like he can finally rack up passing yards. Too bad he can't rack up TDs (too bad unless you have Tennessee's kicker on your fantasy team).

Week 13

28-20 win at home vs. Houston.

Vince: 21-31, 248 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 5 rushes, 44 yards. 99.9 QB Rating.

Good game for Vince, we'll give him credit for leading the team to victory for the second time this year.

Week 14

23-17 loss at home vs. San Diego.

Vince: 13-21, 121 yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 2 carries, 2 yards. 38.1 QB Rating.

That sure is a lot of sub-50 QB rating games for Vince... the words "in spite of Vince" come to mind...

Week 15

26-17 win at KC.

Vince 16-26, 191 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT, 7 carries, 32 yards. 109.6 QB Rating

Vince finally breaks a 100 passer rating. Credit for win #3 to Vince leading the team.

Week 16

10-6 win over NYJ at home.

Vince: 12-22, 166 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 7 carries, 1 yard. 60.0 QB Rating.

Yes, those are real stats.

-------------

So there we have it. Of Tennessee's 8 wins, we can definitely say 3 were because of his leadership. 5 games he had a passer rating of 50 or below. Only 4 games above 90.

Even Rex Grossman was better than this when he led the Bear's to the Superbowl. I guess since no one thinks the Titans are actual SuperBowl contenders the QB doesn't get that kind of scrutiny.

12 total TDs and 27 TOs, how exactly is that leading his team?

The Titans are still in contention in spite of VY, not because of him.

thats true. i don't know why people are so blind.

I wouldn't equate Finley's role on the Spurs to a QB's role on an NFL team. That's just dumb.

They aren't blind, but they see what they want to see through those burnt orange glasses.

Nobody up here thinks that VY has been worth a damn this year. If he had played at Michigan, the love/lips firmly wrapped around his cack would have been the same up here, though.

Out of all those incomplete passes how many do you think were drops? I say atleast 15-20% Like in the indy game last minute drive down by 2 20-30 yard pass to set them up in field goal range and the damn ball was dropped. If Jones would have caught the ball we wouldnt even be here right now. The Titans would already clinched and we would be talking about the Jags and Colts and who would end the season as the AFC south Champs.

No we wouldn't because the Colts beat Jacksonville twice and own the tiebreaker?

I'm no Vince fan but at least he's good enough to not have to split time with his backup *cough*Leinart*cough*
