I'm not up to date with the latest computers, but I know this much. I want a laptop with at least the following:

XP operating system
WUXGA screen (1920 x 1200) 17" to 19"
Full keyboard
dual layer DVD burner

I would definately consider Blu-Ray, but likely get an external upgrade later.

Suggestions please?

Not as much as I'd like. I think $1500 will be my limit, but I think I should be able to get what I want for about $1200 in a Piece of Crap.

The apple site has the one that I know I would like. A 17" MacBook Pro for $2899. It's $2799, but to get it with the resolution I want is an extra $100.

Remember that Dual layer DVD burners are a waste, unless you consistently plan to buy the more expensive 8GB dual-layer DVDs.....perhaps Light-scribe might be more preferable? or both?

Thanks Dan, but I have my reasons for wanting what I stated. I am very technically savvy, I just haven't shopped for a computer in over two years.

Minimum 17" widescreen WUXGA resolution. That way I can have full 1080p and two full pages or a document viewed clearly.

Full Keyboard; I hate the 10 key pad being mixed with the QWERTY.

Dual layer burner; I already have access to a dual layer burner, they have their time and place. That computer however is moving with my daughter. I still have several dual layer blanks anyway.

I prefer Macs, but am limited to a crappy PC due to funding. Therefore XP rather than crappy Vista.

I forgot to add wireless.

MOUSE...

No 13" or 15" recommendations. Minimum 17"! Must be WUXGA!

How can anyone live with a 13" monitor?
