SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- A surfer was bitten on the buttock by a shark on Australia's east coast Tuesday, an ambulance spokesman said.
The 31-year-old man was surfing at a beach north of Sydney in New South Wales state when he was attacked, ambulance service spokesman John Wilson said.
Fishermen took the man to Tea Gardens ambulance station, 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of Sydney, about 11 a.m. (0000 GMT), he said.
He was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Newcastle, 125 kilometers (78 miles) north of Sydney, Wilson said.
His injury was not life threatening, he said.
