Tossup between "Knocked Up" and "Superbad", but if I had to choose I'd have to go with "Knocked Up''. The fact is that "Superbad" it ended slowly and anti-climactically. I thought it would have been the perfect length if it ended after the party. Then it drug on...but still a HELL of a funny @$$ movie.

no, I'll join you. I can't believe I even see it listed in a "best movie of the year" list.

Transformers? haven't seen it... but I rented it for my 9 yr old kid. How old are we here?

Die Hard was entertaining... better than I expected. Children of Men was excellent... and different...

Haven't seen some of the others listed... 3:10, superbad, No Country...

If thats the case about Transformers, every other superhero movie from Batman, X-Men, Fantastic Four, all of which happenened to have been cartoons but made it to the big screen should only be for kids too by your reasoning.... :rolleyes

No Country, Juno among AFI's top 10 of 2007

AP

December 18, 2007

Los Angeles -- No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood and Michael Clayton were among critical favourites that have landed on the American Film Institute's list of the year's 10 best movies.

Also on the AFI's list are Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Into the Wild, the pregnancy comedies Juno and Knocked Up (both of which star Canadians - Ellen Page and Seth Rogen, respectively), the animated Ratatouille and The Savages.

The institute does not rank films or pick one as the year's best. The filmmakers behind the top-10 choices will be honoured at a luncheon Jan. 11.

Many of the films picked up Golden Globe nominations last week and are expected to compete for Academy Awards.

So I keep track of what movies I watch each year online and rate them, etc (I know, pretty nerdy)... the only movie I gave a A this year I watched was Last King of Scotland which came out last year. From this year, I had Ocean's Thirteen and Shooter (surprisingly good I thought) with B+'s as the highest. I'm pretty picky when rating movies though...

Shooter was alright but just another clone of every other action movie. That FBI becoming a world class sniper over night was pretty stupid.

I was really disappointed with 3:10 To Yuma. I love westerns and figured I would love it ever since I heard about it. But it wasn't that interesting to me.

3:10 to Yuma is disqualified for me due to the horrible horrible ending. Great movie, until the end. I'm currently watching Eastern Promises and so far its great.

Superbad was excellent and made me laugh to an insane degree so its up there.

However, if I had to pick best movie of the year for me so far it would have to be the Bourne Ultimatum. It was just really really really good.

Really too hard to pick just one this year. Maybe, if I hadn't seen so many films it'd be easier to pick 2 or 3, but it's tough to exclude great films from a personal-favorites list.

Some really strong comedies came out, so I'll break my favorites up into "comedy" and "non-comedy".

Favorite comedy
1. Knocked Up
2. Walk Hard
3. Superbad
4. Juno
5. Darjeeling Limited
6. Hot Fuzz
7. Simpsons Movie
8. Aqua Teen movie
9. Talk to Me
10. Ratatouille

Favorite non-comedy
1. No Country For Old Men
2. Away From Her
3. Grindhouse (loved the double feature)
4. Sweeney Todd
5. Sunshine
6. Rescue Dawn
7. Eastern Promises
8. Shoot 'Em Up
9. The Namesake
10. The Mist

A few honorable mentions: The Orphanage, Zodiac, American Gangster, 300, and Lars and the Real Girl.

I loved it. Bale's performance is one of the best of the year, and Zahn is great too. The cinematography is superb. Some of the pan-from-side-to-side shots in the jungle are amazing. I'm not too familiar with Werner Herzog, but I'm certainly a fan now.

I didn't expect to like Ratatouille as much as I did, but when I look back on the year (one that was just ok for movies) I enjoyed that one the most.

Rescue Dawn, Hot Fuzz, Black Snake Moan, Gone Baby Gone, Lust, Caution, No Country for Old Men were all great as well.
