View Full Version : Pro Bowl Rosters Announced Today at 3PM

Pro Bowl selection show is on the NFL Network at 3PM local time today.

Colts should be sending between 5 and 8 if the votes from the Dec. 4 count held up. Addai was leading the AFC RBs in votes then. I think that Manning, Addai, Wayne, Saturday, Sanders and Brackett should be locks to go.

The Pro Bowl is going to be funny this year, watching Belichick run the score up on the NFC with Brady and Moss. Maybe Roy Williams can lay out Brady with a horse collar tackle.

I voted for Dallas Clark in the AFC along with Gates.

i voted for Philip Rivers purely for comedy purposes. Can you imagine the spit-takes Brady & Manning will do later today if Rivers is named the AFC starter?

I'd pick Gurode over either of those guys, particularly if I had to vote relative to position in the NFC.

Owens is going to make it as well, I'm sure. I'd think the Cowboys also get one o-lineman (either Gurode or Davis) and perhaps McBriar and Folk.

Bob Sanders may disagree with you, but I think that would be a classy move if the NFL did that. If they didn't pull his name from the ballot after his death and he still received the necessary votes, I don't see why not.

The Cowboys should have Romo, TO, Witten, Gurode, either Davis or Adams, and McBriar. They probably will have Williams because he was leading the votes for safeties a few weeks ago, but he shouldn't go.

Both hit like dump trucks, Sanders is a better tackler, Taylor was better in coverage.

For me, at DE in the AFC, its Jared Allen, Jason Taylor, then Mario Williams. How many get chosen? I forgot.

You do realize that at this time your grandma can cover better than Taylor? If the want to give him an honorary nod then I'm all for that, but I don't think he should get a spot that keeps someone else off.

Nice.

Nobody's going to get knocked off. He would get recognized as being [at least] the best safety in the NFC for 10 games this year (players have made the pro bowl playing less games).

Officially, he'd be on the team, but his spot would go to the next guy. Just like if he were injured.

No doubt Taylor was a stud and would have been named to the Pro Bowl for years, but no man is more responsible for the rise and fall of his team's defense than Bob Sanders. The Colts had an embarrassing defense last year, and this year they are ranked third overall. The difference? Sanders has missed only one game this year instead of twelve.

If you are looking purely at stats, Mario Williams should be chosen before those two. Allen has 5 more tackles than Williams, but Mario has 1.5 more sacks and a fumble recovery and TD on his stat line. He also has 3 more sacks and 5 more tackles than Taylor.

That's certainly true, and would make a strong argument for him for defensive MVP.

But, just because the Washington defense has players who have picked up the slack since Taylor has gone while the Colts defense folds without Sanders is not necessarily indicative of which player is better at their position.

As I said, it's a personal preference, you couldn't have gone wrong with either one.

If you want to get technical about it, they didn't even really play the same position. Sanders is your quintessential strong safety, coming up and providing great run support and laying out WRs on the underneath routes. Taylor was the dominant free safety, playing centerfield and running the deep routes with WRs better than most corners could do so.

TheZackAttack!
12-18-2007, 04:06 PM
I factor stats in of course, but I could care less about 1.5 sacks more. Allen is a stud and has 16 more solo tackles than Williams. I really like the way the guy plays. Taylor may have 3 less sacks than Williams, but he also has an INT returned for a TD, 5 pass deflections as a DE, and 4 forced fumbles, 3 of which were recoved. The man gets it done and is a stud also. I just have Williams behind these 2. Shit, actually I think I like Taylor more than Allen now, lol.

J.T.
12-18-2007, 04:07 PM
Yeah, we'll just keep going in circles if we continue to talk about this. They wouldn't have even been competing against each other for a Pro Bowl selection anyway.

Dawkins isn't as good in run support as he used to be and Ed Reed - while still capable of making big plays - saw an all around drop-off in his game this year (it'll take the media about 3 years to catch on though...).

Not at all. They are having very similar years.

If you don't think having the star on his helmet didn't help Barber, you're kidding yourself. The Cowboys have 11 players on the roster, the Bucs zero.

In the sense of him being on the team tied for the best record in the NFC then I agree but if you are saying that the fans, coaches and players who voted for him did so specifically because he is a Cowboys, then I would disagree.

Damn right Asaunte Samuel is starting. I will take him over Champ Bailey any day of the week and twice on Sunday! No way Pats let the best shutdown corner in the nfl bolt the team. He is staying. Brady,Moss were givens. Bullshit Wes Welker wasnt on the roster. Welker deserves to be at least a reserve. If Maroney had many more touches and wasnt hurt...hed be coming along as would of Ben Watson. Tony Dungy should have fun coaching this team as the God of all NFL coaches Bill Billichick will be enjoying that weekend with his 4th championship ring.

Pats dont play in the NFc so that isnt possible. Plus the other Patriot stars can take it easy that weekend. They should after all they will be world champions for the 4th time this decade. BTW the NFL coaching God known as Billichick wont be able to run up the score because the Superbowl coaches dont coach the pro bowl. That is the runner ups from both conferences who get that job. Been a Pats fan since the start of 1998-1999 season. Lost our first game against the Broncos on Monday Night football 27-21. Bledsoe got sacked a few times, Neil Smith from the Broncos got hurt. We also had 2 amazing late game victorys back to back in the middle of the season. A dramatic win over Miami and 6 days later beat Buffalo on a touchdown as time expired. A pass interference call and Ben Coates won the game for us. Pete Carrol was our coach as well. I even remember a dramatic come from behind victory we had against the Colts in 99. Wasn't that when you started to root for them? I have been a fan of the Celts the year Orlando handed us our asses in 1995 and got into red sox baseball the next year. Dont you lecture to me about front running when you have the Spurs and Colts listed as your 2 favorite teams.

The Spurs don't play in Boston, and Boston is the only sports town whose teams you can be a fan of without being a front runner.

This Bostonguy is a dirty little hack. He comes on here and is nothing but a poor sport, loud mouth, lace curtain pussy. Hey buddy, I like that the Pats are smashing everyone on the field too. Take a cue from the team and just let all of these haters talk their shit about our Pats. We don't need no goddamn band wagoners like you who ain't even from Boston stinkin' up our great season with your rah-rah bullshit. Let that Dolts fan JT and all of the Dallas Cattlerancher fans dream about beating the Pats and winning the Super Bowl. We both know that ain't gonna happen.

So Tony Dungy will have that honor.

In the sense of him being on the team tied for the best record in the NFC then I agree but if you are saying that the fans, coaches and players who voted for him did so specifically because he is a Cowboys, then I would disagree.

I don't have time to compile the numbers, but my sense is that when the Cowboys are good like this, they tend to get a boatload of Pro Bowlers -- more than other very good teams. Indianapolis and New England both finished 12-4 last year and had a combined 7 Pro Bowlers (5 for the Colts and 2 for the Pats (one of whom made the trip only because of an injury)). For that matter, when the Colts went 14-2 in 2005, they managed only 5 Pro Bowlers; when the Pats went 14-2 in 2003, they had 3 Pro Bowlers.

The 11 Cowboys going to Hawaii in 2008 is the most representation by any team since 2004 at least (I count that the 1991 Bills also came up with 11 Pro Bowlers); as best I can tell, it's second all-time to the 1966 Chiefs, who put 12 players in the AFL's All-Star game.

I don't think it's a particularly offensive notion to think that being a Cowboy helps one's chances to make the Pro Bowl -- it's a symbol of the team's popularity; a bit like being a Yankee at All-Star Game time.

One of the early 90's Dallas teams had 11 as well. EDIT: It was 1993.

I just don't believe, as many do, that the league sits behind closed doors and dictates outcomes. I do think that the pro bowl voting is done the best way of the major sports. 1/3 fans, 1/3 coaches and 1/3 players.

I'm not saying these are dictated outcomes -- I am saying that your team is more likely to have a lot of players in the Pro Bowl if it is, arguably, the most popular team and the highest profile team in the sport.

I'm not convinced that this Cowboys' team has more talent than the 2007 Pats, the 2005 Colts, or the 2004 Colts -- nevertheless, it certainly has more all-star players than any of those teams. I don't think that's just coincidence.

I would agree but the NFC is weaker than the AFC this year as well as in those years. If both pro bowl teams were drawn from the entire league instead of per conference, I highly doubt the Cowboys would have 11 but given the weaker state of the Conference it is possible.

The Cowboys getting 11 in is surprising, but 2 of those are the kicker and punter. McBriar definitely deserves to be in, and Folk got in mainly from that repeat 53 yarders he kicked on MNF to win the Buffalo game. It is a popularity contest just like every other all star game, and Barber got in because of his good stats playing part time but mostly because of his popularity as a bruiser who loves contact. I don't put much stock in the Pro Bowl or other awards in sports because the pure subjective nature of them leads to nothing but popularity contests.

If you really want to talk about someone getting completely snubbed, how about the Jaguars? Posting that good of a record in the AFC with a probable playoff berth and no one gets in? No Fred Taylor?

Fan voting is awful. Look no further than Barber, the back RB in Dallas and 11th in ypg/7th total yds/12th in ypc making the team as a RB. What a complete crock.

How someone like Earnest Graham who comes in when everyone is injured including his QB and leads his team who no one gave ANY chance to a division crown and yet he is 6th in ypg and 2nd in TDs, yet Barber goes instead is amazing.

Portis and James are both over 1000 yards and don't get in. Ryan Gant for the Pack only 6 rushes until the 8th week of the season, yet is 10th in rushing and only 72 yards behind Barber. Hell, Jacobs 72 yards less than Barber and he missed 6 weeks and was injured just 6 carries into a 7th.

Just like Homo last year making it over the Eagles' homo, and I-don't-cover-just-hit Williams making it these past few years, the NFL has turned what once could be a career defining achievment into a joke.

Well, 1st of all, brainiac, we are talking rushing.

Barber does not have 1130 yards rushing, he has 871. Graham (extra a by the way) has 887.

Graham is now full time; however he was not full time until Williams blew himself up in the 5th week of the season. Therefore his 1st start was week 6.

Ok so you want to count catches to make your case somehow feasable.

Barber has 40 catches for 259 yards. Graham has 47 catches for 313 yards.

Fucking read okay, I said total yards, not rushing yards. When evaluating a RB you don't just look at their rushing yards. Brian Westbrook case in point. All those numbers you posted I obviously already looked at and did the math on. But thanks for posting them. It just shows how close Barbers and Grahams numbers are.

Yeah, so Graham been a full time starter since week 6. But Barber has NEVER been a full time starter and still has pretty much the same yardage, rushing and recieving, as Graham. With more tds than Graham. Thanks for making my point even more clear.

In another year, Welker might be worthy of a pro-bowl nod with his numbers this year, but this year there were just too many other WRs in the AFC with gaudy numbers for him to make it. Moss, Wayne, Braylon, T.J., Chad, Marshall, Welker is the pecking order IMO. By the way who did Welker say "you fucking suck" too? I missed that.

The Patriots don't deserve credit for shit. All they have done is throw deep shit to Randy Moss all year and Randy Moss is god in a football uniform, so of course he catches everything. They ran the score on Joe Gibbs of all people. I can understand running the score on Mangini and the Cowboys...but not Joe Gibbs. And if it wasn't apparent that their success was the result of voodoo magic coupled with a deal with Satan before the Eagles game...

1. AJ Feeley throws a fucking lights out game until late in the fourth quarter when the Pats have a three point lead. Asante Samuel picks him off, the Eagles get the ball back, and Feeley gets picked again. So strange that the Pats get rocked for nearly the whole game and only when the game is on the line does Feeley get picked? That's some Satanic voodoo shit and we al know it.

2. Ravens game... Ravens and McGahee make the Pats their bitch for the whole game and then all hell breaks loose. Pats get stopped on 4th down but noooooo, Ravens call time out. Ravens commit about five penalties in the row getting the Pats that much closer to the goal line, and then Brady throws a TD to Gaffney who does not have possession as he is going out of bounds. Booth review, catch is upheld. You could chalk it up to voodoo magic again, but Kyle Boller throws a hail mary and it's caught at the three yard line. THREE YARDS! Fuck this voodoo shit.

3. Late TD the Jets made last week. Yeah they probably don't get the onside kick anyway but that would have made it 17-14 with at least a shot at forcing OT for them. Booth review, TD is overturned.

The Pats have made a deal with Satan and someone in their organization is practicing voodoo magic.

Meh, it's all cyclical, and somebody gets screwed every year. The Cowboys have had some good teams in the past, and this year's team has the best record of any of them thus far. They were also playing really well as of the time most of the votes were coming in. It's not surprising that they got a lot of guys in. There are previous years where the defense was really good but they lost a lot of 13-10 games and the only guy that got voted in was Williams. Since the game itself is a joke and nobody really wants to go, it hardly matters. It used to be a big honor when players didn't make enough money to afford a trip to Hawaii.

You have a point. I really couldn't drop any of the guys on the team now.

I just wanted to give props to Welker since he went to school in Texas. Also at his size, he has serious nads to run all those pass routes around linebackers.
