View Full Version : Mavs vs. Suns tonight

Ever notice how all the high-profile, nationally televised Dallas games always have to be on Dallas' floor? Yet more evidence of the league attempting to inflate their records/egos/coverage.

I predict a Phoenix victory by about 15 points at the least....this team usually tears Dallas apart...so it won't be much of a surprise. I predict that Howard and Terry will jack up some 30 jumpers and brick most of them.

Isn't it like that whenever any 2 playoff teams from the same conference? It's almost as lame as when 2 teams meet up in the regular season after playing each other in the finals and it's called a Finals rematch. :lol

The Suns are a team that gives us issues. Amare, Nash and company will get any shot they want and score in any way they prefer. We cant even contain their O as this will come down to a shootout.

Change of plans: GO MAVS GO! We need to keep our top West spot. With Memphis coming out and hitting a few lucky shots here and there, we may lose tonight.

Note: WTF was that "potential WCF matchup, with all due respect to the Spurs".

1st, the Spurs ARE THE REIGNING NBA CHAMPS, THREE OUT OF THE LAST FIVE, and 2nd they currently own the West's best record!

Classic SpursDynasty flipflop. And it's not really Memphis hitting lucky shots... the San Antonio D-Leaguers can't do shit without Tony Parker. Looks like your prediction #10 gets canned tonight.

This recent suckage by the Spurs is making the Mavericks Fan Club look tempting.

We get blowed up by Beno Udrih and blown out by the Grizz in under the span of one month and you're scoffing at ESPN saying this game is a WCF preview? :lmao

I am hard pressed to decide whom I would least mind seeing win tonight.

A part of me wants the Mavs to lose because I can't stand them and I am so mad about Avery's upcoming jersey retirement.

I want what is best for the Spurs in the standings but that is pretty much a toss up at this point.

By that logic, anyone who scored more than 3 points was "the difference."

DAntoni looked like he was going to have a heartattack several times...haha. Nash was amazing, didn't miss anything and you could tell how instantly the offense sparked up with him. Devin did a good job. Dirk showed some balls. Erica Dampier vs. Amare was funny. Entertaining game, can't really tell who has the edge over who, between those two every time there's a lead, you can guarantee within the next 2 minutes the other team will make a run and make it close.

Actually, mono, by that logic, anyone who scored any points was "the difference."

You have to be the most fairweather Mavs fan on this board. When the Mavs are losing, you lose complete faith in them. "Trade Dirk!" Now suddenly Brandon Bass is the difference that will take you to a championship. You're a flake and your arguments are based on a game-by-game basis rather than a macroscopic perspective.

Really, WTF was that? Seems Dirk still hasn't learned from the 2006 Finals.

The reason he probably missed the pass is because he probably thinks just like us that people would know not to pass it to him inside two minutes. He was just as shocked as we were to get the ball.

Do I have to bring that thread up to prove I never said? In the 90's, Finley was the best player on the team. He was very good until about 2004 where he really slowed down. He had 2 bad playoff runs in a row against Sacramento and Phoenix. Therefore my point was that we really didn't have a big 3 at that point since Finley was a no show. It did not intend to say Finley never did anything for the Mavs.

I still dont want to see the suns in the playoffs. This team can literally play their game against us. We cant slow them down and when we do it's very short. In a 7 game series I have tons of doubts beating them 4 times. Only team who can fuck this offense up is the Spurs.

Amare in the lineup. Suns with Amare/Nash/Marion all on the same court in a 7 game series are 4-2 against the Mavs. We were nearly pushed to a 7th game against an undermanned suns team in 2006. This team KNOWS they can beat us. They arent scared of us because they can score any basket they want on us especially in crunch time. No way we beat them playing them that exact type of style. If all their guys are producing...we cant/wont beat them in a series. The Suns are just too good to lose that kind of style.

On the flip side of that, we didn't have too much trouble scoring on them tonight. They couldn't get stops whenever they needed one. Did they even have a lead tonight? They can't rebound either.

Rx for beating Phoenix: Control the glass, chase their shooters off the 3-point line, be physical and you can win. They match up real well with us, we just don't have an answer at all for Nash and Amare on the pic-n-roll. I hope they do blow it up and trade Amare in order to get better on d because we can't stop that, and they ran it repeatedly in crunch time to get back in the game.

Yeah, it's always nice to beat Phoenix, but I agree with Dirk: it's going to be awfully hard to contain them over the course of a 7-game series. I think Dirk has plateaued out. If Josh can continue to develop into a guy who requires a double-team himself, it makes things so much easier for this team. Dirk ended up having a nice game tonight, even though it seemed like Marion did a terrific job on him.

Yeah, I think Bass has been a steal, equivalent to a top-10 pick. I'm guessing he just couldn't get playing time behind West and Chandler. But he's never come close to playing rotation minutes for 82 games + a playoff run. Avery needs to limit his minutes so he doesn't hit a wall.

In a seven-game series against Phoenix, I'd have to give them a slight edge because of Nash and Amare on the pic and roll and the way Nash has a bug up his ass against Dallas, like he's playing for his freedom out there or gamblers are holding his twin daughters hostage. I knew this was coming. They come off a big win in San Antonio and they have a letdown vs the Mavs. But I will take Nash in that position to tie the game every time. More often then not that shot goes in. At least the remaining 2 game with the Mavs are in Phoenix.

ya sucks how we only play yall 3 times this season and 2 are in PHX

I am surprised the league schedule them like that. Usually they schedule 4 games.

each team only plays 3 or 4 teams within there conference 3 times due to the Bobcats coming into the league a few years back

I predict a Phoenix victory by about 15 points at the least....this team usually tears Dallas apart...so it won't be much of a surprise.

Let's see...we knocked them out of the playoffs in '06. We split the series last year, and blew one of the games at the end and lost in OT.... :drunk

Seriously, Damp basher -- did you actually view the entire game? :lol He really wasn't bad tonight until the end.

You're right. Dampier actually played really well last night overall.

Well, the Mavs did some flopping tonight and got some extra points off those flops, I think Phoenix deserved to win this game.

:lol

I guess you missed Amare's dive...

You know what's cool about Phoenix....I've seen games where they've been down 8-10 points with about 1:15 left...and no panic, they just bring the ball down the court calmly and you can clearly see they haven't given up yet and expect to still be in it when the clock hits 0:00. No big deal.

Too bad they don't have the defense, anyone other than Amare, Marion and Nash to add to that regular season swagger though.

That's one thing I wish the Spurs had....clutch-time confidence. In order for us to get a win we have to blow teams out. If we're down even four points with 2 minutes left, we usually give up.

Too bad we have to wait until the end of February to see this matchup again, huh? ;)

Sucks watching Mavs blow big leads, but they had control of that game the entire time. It's not a coincidence that the Suns repeatedly got within 1 but could never take the lead.

Win by 1 point...win by 30 points. It's still a win. Give credit to the Suns, especially Marion's "D" on Dirk (had a few steals). When Devin Harris was in, we played our best.
