11:59 PST Minneapolis -- Minneapolis - Guard Troy Hudson's lingering hip condition has the Warriors concerned that his NBA career could be over.

"I think Troy's probably done," coach Don Nelson said after Wednesday's shootaround. "I don't think he'll play again. I'm serious. It's unfortunate, but he has a hip problem, and I haven't heard a second opinion, but it doesn't look good for him.

"He's going to have to have a new hip as he gets older, but we're quite concerned about him being able to play again. Right now, we're talking maybe four to six weeks off and then check again. But he has some spurs on his hip and arthritic conditions and it's just not a positive for him."

Hudson, 31, has played in just nine games this season after his hip condition surfaced in training camp. An MRI taken last month showed bone spurs in both joints and inflammation on the left side, which is where his pain is located.

Hudson said he spoke to his doctor Tuesday night and discussed having surgery to remove the spurs from the left joint. But the operation would require a year and a half to rehab, effectively ending his career with few teams likely to sign an aging guard coming off such a long injury layoff.

The 10-year veteran hopes to receive better news from a specialist in New York, who he plans to see while the Warriors are in town playing the Nets this week, and another in Colorado after returning from the road trip.

But the former Timberwolves' guard, who still makes his home in Minnesota after his offseason buyout, acknowledges that his playing days might be over.

"If it had to end today, I'm pretty happy with 11 years in the NBA when they told me I would never play in the NBA," said Hudson, who went undrafted after playing two seasons in college and spent the next two seasons bouncing between the CBA and the NBA. "But I'm positive. I think somebody's going to tell me something I want to hear."

The Warriors signed Hudson to a one-year deal for the league minimum in case point guard Baron Davis went down with an injury. But with Hudson's own health issues, Golden State has spread the backup ball handling duties between Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson and Matt Barnes.

Nelson said he didn't know yet if the team would add another point guard while Hudson's future remains uncertain. The Warriors are already at the 15-man roster limit and would have to first waive a player unless a trade is made.

It is sad.
I hate to see any player's career end due to injury/illness before they're ready to retire.
