View Full Version : Petition for whottt to watch AJ's number get retired

timvp
12-21-2007, 01:19 AM
With Avery Johnson getting his numbered retired on Saturday, December 22nd when the San Antonio Spurs face off against the Los Angeles Clippers in the AT&T Center, it's only right that timvp be joined at the game by whottt. If you have been following along over the last four years, timvp has been perhaps the biggest AJ supporter, while whottt has led the opposing battle.

In case you need a reminder, here are just a few of the threads that ended up turning into a timvp vs. whottt mêlée regarding the legacy and the forthcoming retirement of a certain number six.

timvp crushes whottt (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4984)

timvp demolishes whottt (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7800)

timvp destroys whottt (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29883)

timvp annihilates whottt (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40712)

timvp finishes off whottt (http://spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78683)

With history about to be made and number six about to forever be withdrawn from further use by this franchise, the only fitting way for this battle to end is for whottt to attend the game and following ceremony with timvp. With that in mind and Christmas season in the air, I here now extend the olive branch and an open invitation for whottt to attend said game with timvp. However, the following stipulations must be adhered to:

1) whottt must not boo at, yell at, direct obscenities at or otherwise try to interfere in the ceremony.

2) whottt must not bring signage or an article of clothing with the words "F AJ" or any other such negative language toward the ceremony or its participants.

3) timvp must not say the phrase "I Told You!" more than three times.

To show that SpursTalk wants this olive branch to be accepted by whottt, please sign this thread with your screen name. If 48 people (the number six multiplied by four years multiplied by two battling participants) sign this petition, timvp will email whottt a ticket to the game that will place him next to timvp. whottt would then accept the ticket and attend the game and following ceremony or face the consequences of declining a good natured gift in the spirit of Christmas and David Robinson.

Your help in this matter is appreciated.

:lol you gotta be fucking kidding me...

I appreciate the offer and if it was any other game...I'd be grateful....however with AJ?

Frankly, there about 15 other things I'd rather do...like shave my genitals with a lighter, or give myself a butane enema...

Thanks...but no thanks.

Who are you counting on for support on this? The AJ haters know why I wouldn't want to go...and the AJ likers would view it as an undeserved reward.

IF timvp was put in charge of the jersey retirement commitee, The spurs would have to start using letters instead of numbers to play with.

I would like to thank Aj in advance for not helping Drob through all the humiliating playoff exits.

THanks Aj!

I haven't been to a Spurs game in person since game 5 of the 95 WCF. And believe me...the last game I'd expect to end that drought is the AJ retirement night.

I'd be willing to bet you can't get that many votes for me to go anyway...and you misjudge the mind of the average SpursTalk poster.

Reduce the "I told you" number to zero and you've got my vote. It is a Spurs game after all, and they are probably pretty good seats. Why would a spurfan not want to go to a game?

Reduce the "I told you" number to zero and you've got my vote.Alright, I'll verbally amend the agreement to reduce that number. Especially considering I don't think whottt and timvp ever argued over whether AJ's number would be retired. The arguments were about if AJ's number being retired was the right thing to do. So any number of "I TOLD YOU'S!" wouldn't really make sense.

It is a Spurs game after all, and they are probably pretty good seats. Why would a spurfan not want to go to a game?Exactly. I fully expect whottt to go if I email him a ticket. Either way it's a small risk. Either he doesn't go and I have an empty seat next to me or he does go and this drama sees a fitting end.

I'm on the fence with this one... raise the magic number to 100 since it's a mortal lock for you to get 48 people to sign this. Not to put you down or anything but with all the "great post timvp!"'s that you get all the time I'm sure some people are going to do it just because you're asking and not in spirit of the battle between you and whottt.

timvp
12-21-2007, 07:34 AM
not in spirit of the battle between you and whottt. How is this relevant to past battles? People who sign aren't saying timvp > whottt.

One could abstain from signing for multiple reasons (hate AJ so much they want an empty seat at his ceremony, want to see timvp get his sig changed, etc.) but a signature is not a slight toward whottt.

Anyway, I'll sign this thing. . . I know whottt doesn't particularly want to go, but I'd hate to see a three game losing streak and I'll give him my blessing in hopes that if I am there in spirit they will win because of my streak of 50 some odd undefeated regular season games (and I'm sure this is purely coincidental since we've had a kick ass team for the last decade).

Shoogar I thought you were joking up until that last post. I wasn't trying to be a snob or anything.

To my fellow AJ haters...fear not. I am not going to start liking AJ now....even if I were to forgive him for his sins since leaving the Spurs...

He's still the coach of the damn Mavs.
He still doesn't deserve his jersey hanging up there.

But it was a really nice gesture by timvp, and I accepted it becuse I like timvp, and I want to go to a Spursgame and see some of my Spurs brethren...if I get to meet ShoogarBear...all the better.

I want to see if Shoogarbear is half as funny in person as he is on the forum...too.

But fear not fellow AJ haters...whottt cannot be bought...consider this merely a gesture that we AJ haters are openminded and not blind engines of AJ hating.

I will go and represent AJ haters with class and dignity....but if anyone thinks I am going to be singing AJ's praises from now on...think again, and shame on you for even trying it....and the forum would be a much more boring place if there were no voices of disent...

It's not fair because at the Austin GTG's the V-Crew always show off their Spurs Talk T-Shirts and make me feel deprived.

and the forum would be a much more boring place if there were no voices of disent...Ironically enough, with how SpursTalk on a whole hates AJ, timvp is the voice of dissent in this case. In fact, the longtime AJ backers can probably be counted on one hand.

Anyways, I'll see tomorrow. Who woulda thunk that whottt would break his 12 year streak of not going to a Spurs game by going to the AJ jersey retirement ceremony. Most of SpursTalk doesn't understand the classicness of this event.

Alright, I'll verbally amend the agreement to reduce that number. Especially considering I don't think whottt and timvp ever argued over whether AJ's number would be retired. The arguments were about if AJ's number being retired was the right thing to do. So any number of "I TOLD YOU'S!" wouldn't really make sense.

Exactly. I fully expect whottt to go if I email him a ticket. Either way it's a small risk. Either he doesn't go and I have an empty seat next to me or he does go and this drama sees a fitting end.

Why do you continually refer to yourself in the 3rd person? Are you worried that if you say "I" we'll forget who you're referring to? :lol

Moved back to Austin
95 playoffs weren't really fun(and that last game I went to wasn't exactly AJ's defining moment either).
I'd usually get ripped at the games and no way to get back to Austin without driving.
My dad stopped buying season tickets because no one was using them as much, and you could get some damn cheap individual tickets at the Alamodome anyway...

Just got out of the habit without always having tickets and got to enjoy watching the games on TV where you can kick back. Got to feel the same way about the playoff games.

It wasn't like I swore I'd never attend another game or anything dramatic like that.....

I kinda know what you mean.I have season tickets and sometimes I just feel like kickin back and watching the games on t.v. but there is nothing like actually being there in person especially in the playoffs. I was at game 7 in 2005 and you could just feel the electricity in the building and everybody stood up the entire 4th quarter. It was one of the greatest experiences in my life.

Yeah going live is a great experience, although it's been a lot better to do it over the last 10 years than it was when I was doing it. Back when I was doing it, they had a habit of never quite winning the big games. And that sucked...it especially sucked to pay $$$$ and drive 60 miles to do it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the AT&T Center as well...I've heard it's nice.

I actually liked the Alamodome though...I think me and Kobe are the only ones.

This is an extremely classy gesture on the part of timvp and Kori...all bs aside, as it was by you...but I don't think we've seen the last of the AJ wars.

Does anyone honestly believe that even if I were to go silent on the issue that the issue would die? Lots of AJ haters out there...AJ does it himself.

I mean...even Angel Luv is an AJ hater...

I don't understand or agree with this retirement of AJ's jersey. I'm boycotting this game because of this travesty against Spursdom.

Here's the way I see it. If I was your best friend, helped you out many times and got you a job with my company - you'd be pretty grateful for what I had done for you. Then let's say one day I go and fuck your wife and slap your mother, would you still feel grateful to me after that? That's what AJ has done. AJ taking the Mavs job isn't a transgression because as a coach you take the opportunities that are afforded to you, but all of his whining ass bullshit and "Bruce's bearhug defense" bullshit comments during that series were a fucking insult. AJ figuratively fucked the Spurs' wives and slapped their mothers, and they are still honoring him. How weak.
