I love chess, it's a shame I cannot play regularly and it's also a shame I'm not very good.
We should organize an on line turnament.

Guys if you want to play online, you could try chesscube.com or fics. Anybody could improve in chess, just study tactics, endgame and positional play from chess books ,online tutorials or chess coach.
You will appreciate and enjoy chess more(also improve) if you are familiar with these chess concepts. If anybody here are curious what are sample of these chess ideas, look at the links below.

Since many here wants to improve, I will tell that the key to getting good at chess is to study endgames, positional play and tactics, and of course play a lot. Chess is great, if one will learn these things, he/she will love chess more and improve his/her play as well.
Why do we need to study tactics?
At below master level the common reason for defeats are blunders. Sample of these blunders are losing your piece without getting something in return, or you did not notice you will be mated in a few moves, but you failed to see the right defensive moves. Studying tactics helps lessen your blunder and improves your calculation skills. Sample of chess tactics are pin, fork and skewer.

Why do we need to study positional play?
Often times at below master level, player does not know what to do on a given position. If you study the positional features of chess, you will have a guide on what to do in a given position. Sample of this positional concept is a bad bishop. A bad bishop is a bishop that lacks mobility.

Why do we need to study endgame?
Endgame is a pace in chess in which you can now bring out your king, cause it is already safe from threats. It is no use if you have a rook and king against a lone king, if you don't know how to mate with it. Or it is no use if you have an extra pawn (and the position is winning) if you can't convert it to a win.

Now where would you learn these chess concepts? You can learn it from books, online tutorials or a chess coach.

What program do you play? Try the easier level. Computers are good at tactics, usually they are weak at strategy and endgames.

The value of pieces in Chess.
Pieces in chess are not equal, the Queen is stronger than a rook, and the rook is stronger than a bishop or knight.
Queen= 9
Rook=5
Bishop/Knight=3 - may mga sitwasyon na mas malakas ang bishop sa kabayo, may sitwasyon na kabayo naman mas malakas sa bishop
Pawn=1

i play on wii chess :lol. its surprisingly difficult compared to the internet chess programs.
i think knights are really understated since theyre the only piece that can take a queen without being in her path.

Knights are strong on closed position, and the bishop is strong on open position, but Queen is always stronger than both piece(this is teach on positional chess books).
A Superior Knight Against a Bishop
Game 1 http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1273732
After 44 moves in game 1 white has a bishop and black has a knight. Notice that white has dark square bishop, and his pawns are on the black side limiting the scope of his bishop, in chess positional concept this is called a bad bishop. Look at the knight it is very strongly placed, it is pressuring the c3 pawn. So it's clear in this position, the knight is stronger than the bishop. Brilliant positional play by Nimzowitsch (the author of one of the most popular chess strategical book of all time My System)
A Superior Bishop Against a Knight
Game 2 http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1068973
Notice in game 2 after move 37 on how Karpov's (one of the greatest chess player of all time) bishop dominates the knight. In open position like this in which the bishop has a lot of room to maneuver, it is superior against the knight. :)

Thanks, what are your favorite openings?
Most girls do.
Looking at it men are more naturally born for chess, but there are many women chess master, and if one plays in a tournament there are strong women players there. One of the strongest chess female player ever is Judit Polgar who have reached an elo of 2700 plus. At the moment it seems Yifan Hou is the female player to look out for.
