On the game - “Our group did a good job defensively tonight after the first quarter. We’re a good basketball team when we play defense, and then we back it up with rebounding then everything flows from that. We did that tonight after the first quarter and got it done.” On Michael Finley and Matt Bonner - “Fin knows his job, he can’t ensure that every shot is going to go in but he he’s not going to back off and he’s going to take his shots and tonight they fell better. Matt Bonner, that’s one of his great skills, he knows we want him to fire that three and he’s good at it and along with the fact that he rebounds hard, and he plays a real physical game and he did another fine job.”

On Bruce Bowen - “That’s always something we’ll take for granted, is Bruce’s job out there. He didn’t score a lot of points, but his work on Mike (Miller) was really important because he’s such a great scorer. As we all know Bruce takes great pride in that and he did another great job.”

On Tony Parker - “Tony is starting to get in shape. He’s not pacing him self at all, he’s out there tonight real aggressive from the beginning. I think he’s turning the corner.”

On the game - “We didn’t start our real well, especially in that first quarter. We just worked our way out of it. It’s nice to get that under our belt and see our defense start working a little bit…see some shots go down and shake off that last loss a little bit.” On getting the defense executing properly - “We get some stops and they’re still shooting 70-80% and there’s nothing positive that comes out of that. Even if we make shots, every shot you take is an important shot…you’re trying to aim it…trying to make sure it goes in…trying to get the best shot instead of just relaxing and making plays.”

On Finley - “I think he always moves well without the ball, and he’s one of our guys that’s great coming off the screens. A lot of our offense is just that and he just ends up being that kind of guy when he shoots the ball that well.”

On getting into the lane so frequently tonight - “It always helps when we make some shots. I thought we shot the ball really well…better than last game. Besides the first quarter, our defense was really good. The first quarter was terrible and I think we let them score 32 points. The next three quarters we played good defense, and when you play good defense it creates easy offense…fast breaks…transition. Michael and Matt shot the ball really well for us tonight.” On the break before the next game - “It’s definitely going to help. We have a lot of injuries…my ankle…Tim’s body…those next couple of days we should take advantage of it, make sure everybody gets some rest and get ready for the next game.”

On the game - “Even though the shots were falling tonight, it’s all about the defense game in and game out. If the shots fall, then great, and that’s what happened tonight. We have to bring the defense and be aggressive and not stand back on our heels and let them run their offense how they want. We need to take them out of what they want to do.”

On troubles in the second half - "Well we just didn't shoot the ball well, maybe they picked up their defense a little bit and we couldn't get any calls, got into foul trouble and then again those two things have been are bug-a-boos lately. Open shots went down in the first half, I thought our offense ran well even though we could've run a little bit more, but it's tough when a lot of fouls are being called, that just slows the game to their pace and we weren't able to maintain the lead that we had. 40% of the first half our defense was pretty good and then the second half they didn’t play as well.” On if lead in the half was lost on missed shots) "Missed shots and they asserted themselves. A good half but Mike Miller didn’t have any shots in the first half and we were down by two. We were feeling pretty good about ourselves for a while but we give them credit for their hard work. I'm kicking myself because we talked about an aggressive type of defense that we needed to play and the Spurs were good models for it as they're all over you, on top of you and doing everything they can.”

On Mike Miller's inability to get shots in the first half) "It's a combination of good defense and other things. I think Mike and I have to look at the tape to see what happened. Bruce Bowen is a great premier defender and he's not going let him get easy shots." On Mike Conley's performance - "It's always good to see him out there, he has the quickness, he's getting the experience obviously, as we went with him against Tony Parker with penetration and pick-and-rolls. I thought he did a pretty good job when they went at him in the post and it was good to see him out there, he's going to get better fast.”

On the game - “Tonight was a great experience for me. I finally had the opportunity to play against one of the better teams in the NBA and played against one of the better guards in the league. Surprisingly I felt really good guarding someone like Tony Parker is a big test. I think ill be at 100% in about three more games.” “I really thought we played great basketball during the first half and just let things go during the second half. We really seemed cold in the third quarter and the Spurs aggressive defense made it really hard to bounce back.”

On the game - “Tonight we really shot the ball better in the first half and our defense was more aggressive. Our defensive stops carried over into positive numbers on the offensive end and allowed us to play comfortable basketball. The second half was a different story. The Spurs started out with a 7-0 run and continued to apply aggressive defensive pressure which put us in a spot we didn’t want to be in. It has been our team’s tenancy during the last couple of games. We haven’t started the second half with the crispness and sharpness need to win games. When you have a bad second half it will dictate the pace for the third and fourth quarters.” “This loss is very unfortunate. We have to give credit to the Spurs they are a pretty good team and we couldn’t respond to their aggressiveness during the second half.”

“Over all I think we did what we had to do in the first half. We shared the ball and executed well. I feel that we gave a great team effort and made things tough for the Spurs tonight. We did struggle during the second half and when you play in the NBA it needs to be a team effort for 48 min to win.”

Just one time I want to hear the players say what they really mean. enough of this "well our shots were falling, and we played pretty good defense...blah blah blah"
I want to hear some post game quotes like "Yeah Boi we messed da grizz up pretty bad. They ain't even Grizzly bears IN Memphis. I mean really. Have you ever seen a Grizzly bear from MEMPHIS? Ne wayz...they played like crap and we totally took advantage of it cuz we iz the champs and we just better."
