Spurs assistant coach P.J. Carlesimo has not been contacted about Denver's head coaching vacancy.

Carlesimo was named as a candidate for the Nuggets position in Thursday's Denver Post. The Post listed Dallas assistant Del Harris, Utah assistant Phil Johnson, former Seattle and Milwaukee coach George Karl and Carlesimo as being on the short list of Nuggets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe.

Spurs officials said Thursday night that Denver has not requested permission to speak to Carlesimo. Carlesimo also said he has not been contacted.

Denver promoted Michael Cooper to interim coach Tuesday after Jeff Bzdelik was fired.

Carlesimo is in his third season as Gregg Popovich's lead assistant. He previously was head coach at Portland and Golden State.

Still waiting: Spurs officials continue to keep in contact with Karl Malone's agent but have not been given a timetable for when Malone plans to decide his future.

Malone reportedly has been in Louisiana vacationing with his family.

All-Star voting: Tim Duncan remained second among Western Conference forwards in the All-Star balloting returns released Thursday.

Duncan has 886,547 votes, ranking him second to Minnesota's Kevin Garnett (1,142,804) among West forwards and seventh overall.

Manu Ginobili is in fifth place among Western Conference guards, trailing Houston's Tracy McGrady, the Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant, Phoenix's Steve Nash and Seattle's Ray Allen. Tony Parker is seventh.

Fan balloting, which selects the starters for each team, ends Jan. 23. Coaches select the reserves.
