Just hope the Spurs stay injury free and pick things up towards the end of the season. Regular season records mean sh!t. It's all about getting your team at its peak for the playoffs.

Fans of championship teams know how little division titles mean, but we wouldn't expect you to know that tlong, which is why we educate you on these matters.

Let them have their division title fun if it happens.
I'll take a Larry O'Brien trophy over a division title anyday.

Let them, I care about the playoffs and winning a ring not division placement. Win your games to get in, that's all you do.

Yet the Spurs beat them in NO by 12 in November :lol

NOH lack of a bench would get exposed in a 7 game series.

And I think that Minnestota will be the champion.

I'll be interested to see if the Hornets can keep the pace up and whether they'll suffer the sorts of significant injuries that always seem to derail that team. Obviously, it will be a major disappointment if they don't make the playoffs at this point, but I'm not sure that I buy them yet as a division winner.

And I do think that it does make some difference whether a team wins a division this year. While I don't think that the Spurs' chances to win another title are entirely dependent upon having a top-4 seed in the playoffs, I don't think the Spurs want to have to win all 4 series without home court advantage to get that done. If you don't win the division, you'd better have the best record of a non-division winner if you really want to have a great chance to win the West, IMO. All the better if you can be #1 and have everyone coming to you.

If New Orleans was to win the Southwest, either Dallas or San Antonio (if not both) is a 5-8 seed and face the possibility of starting round 1 on the road (the 5 seed has a decent chance to have HCA over the Northwest winner, but the Pacific and Southwest winners seem to be locks to have top 3 seeds and HCA). For historical reference, in the Duncan era, the Spurs have started only 4 series (out of 28) on the road and are 2-2 in those series ('98 WCSF @ UTH (L); '02 WCSF @ LAL (L); '05 WCF @ PNX (W); '07 WCSF @ PNX (W)).

It's certainly not the end-all-and-be-all of basketball accomplishment to win your division, but it can sure make a big difference in terms of a team's chances to win the conference.

Same odds as the Sonics winning the Pacific Division.

FWD

on that 2-2 record, I'd say that utah series is a wash. TD's first playoff year, whole new monster for him at the time

2-1

Okay -- so they've beaten Phoenix twice in the last 10 years. I'm still not sure that's a ringing endorsement to think that it's no big deal to start a series (much less 3 or 4 of them) on the road.

Winning the division shouldn't be a goal, but it's a big step towards accomplishing THE goal.

I'd almost rather they not finish as the number one seed. I don't think the Hornets have it in them to make it through the season. Time will tell.

So will the Nuggets. If you switch houston(4) and memphis(5) from the southwest for denver(1) and portland(2) from the northwest the blazers would be in last place and the nuggets in 4th.the rockets would be a half game off the division lead and the grizzles in third.the northwest division SUCKS!
