Freedom and liberty is a dying breed.

"The natural order is for Governmental power to increase at the expense of liberties and freedom." - Thomas Jefferson (paraphrasing)

This is how it has always worked...always.

People always tend to want to be taken care of, and governments will always come in to fill that need. It's what they do. Every chance to take care of people, is a chance to increase it's role and size...and it's always looking to increase.

Every despot that has come to power, came to power promising to "help" the "people." Even Hitler gave Germans better schools, a better economy...and the VW Beetle. No dictator ever gets into power promising to take away freedoms and liberties...they always get into power by promising good things from govt.

How many great things are liberals (including most Republicans) promising to the American people?

The Majority of people will always fall for it as well. Always. "This time, it'll be different."

It never is.

Liberals and socialist/communists have never understood history well enough to learn from it. Well, unless they're in power, then they understand it very damned well..."Promise them X and Y, we can buy this thing!"

"free health care....gimme!"

So, yeah...there will be no conservative elected this time, cuz there aint one running. Hasn't been one running in 25 yrs. regardless of the inane rhetoric spouted in the media and blogs. Conservatives shy away from Govt and Politics, leaving it wide open for liberals and socialists who view govt action as the answer to almost all problems. Therefore, almost by definition, Socialist types will always dominate govt.

This is why our founders understood this most basic premise:

"The natural order is for Governmental power to increase at the expense of liberties and freedom."

and, so it goes...

I'm finding, fiscal conservatives are Ron Paul republicans, social conservatives lean toward Huckabee and Duncan Hunter...but the RNC will likely settle for some compromise candidate like McCain or Romney...despite his weak showing in Iowa, Romney is still the front-runner...a Blooberg independent run in 08 could weaken the Republican ranks even more....

I always smile when some socialist type says they are "fiscally conservative."

Really?

So, you are willing to get rid of the fiscally irresponsibility of Welfare payments, Social Security, Medicaid, etc??

"Well, no...but, I want to make sure taxes are high enough to cover the expense. We need a balanced budget!"

You cannot be Socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. Social liberals want to help the poor, and do social programs that are hugely costly.

And a balanced budget doesn't make you a fiscal conservative if your still spending TRILLIONS and increasing the amount you spend every year. Increasing taxes to cover your out-of-control SPENDING. If your a fiscal conservative...you'd be cutting SPENDING by HUGE amounts every year.

Find me ONE candidate that is promoting HUGE spending cuts.

There ain't one fiscal conservative running. There are socially liberal, and socially conservatives running...but, there ain't one fiscal conservative.

On Edit: Well, I may have to amend this. Ron Paul, being more libertarian than Republican...may have huge spending cuts in mind. I'd have to look into what his platform is to be sure.

I was going to correct you, but I understand if you dont take Paul as a serious candidate.

Well George. It's the growing number of childish adults that want the government to provide for them, rather than being man enough to provide for themselves that cause the problems we have.

Apparently, you are one who believes in the government liberal.

That deserves our pity. Not our resignation. If liberal attitudes push far enough, the damage will be corrected by a new push on conservatism, or this nation will die. I guess you want the USA to cease to exist as we know it huh?

With freedom comes responsibility. It the irresponsible liberals who are destroying our freedoms.
