Had one yesterday.
I just found out today that the promotion I have been led by my superiors to believe was intended soley for me is actually up for grabs. :(
I am still in the running for the promotion so all is not lost, provided I continue to work hard.
The crazy thing is that throughout this process and particularly yesterday right before I was called in for the mtg, I have had a feeling that something was amiss.
I have a lot of discernment( what a lot of people would call intuition)
about these things.
I've even told friends that while I was excited about the promotion I was not going to consider it done until the raise showed up on my pay stub.
So, while the news was disappointing, it is not entirely shocking.
Even so, I feel rather demoralized and a little bit used, you know?
I'm just grateful that I didn't go and do something stupid like quit my wonderful job at the arena in anticipation of getting this other opportunity.
Anyway, just wanted to vent before I go back to my job and work like yesterday never happened.

Good luck to you today. Things like that suck and can drain the motivation to work hard for those people right out of you. Have had it happen to me once or twice. Keep with it and see what happens.

That sucks Angel, I know how hard you've been working for it and have been looking for it to become official. Good things happen to good people ... and you're good people. Keep working hard, keep a smile on and they'll notice.

Thank you. You're an awesome friend. :)

That is an excellent point.
One of supervisor in particular more than once has commended my competitive nature so a lack of it would definitely be noticed.
The last thing I need to do is self- sabotage now. That would be super stupid.
Maybe you should sleep with your boss.
Just a suggestion.

Unfortunately this is what passes for management in the business world. Happens all the time to people I know who, like you, deserve better. Hang in there.
Last year when I had my annual review my boss said "you need to move to Austin, money's tight right now, but next year we'll be able to help you move." This year it became "this year, you need to move for your career to Austin" but despite record corporate profits there supposedly isn't any money available for relocation assistance and we have to do it ourselves in this sucky housing market. Except of course the Dallas market sucks and the Austin market doesn't.

Perhaps I can be of some assistance, Angel.
Does you boss have any thoroughbred horses?

Don't sweat it too much Angel. It's common practice for companies to post job openings so that anyone can apply even though they intend the job to go to you. I think you'll still get it. It's probably just an HR practice rule they are following.

That's a good point, we have to do that at my job. You have to post every opening and interview every qualified candidate, even if you already know who you want to give the job to.

A superior explained to me that, that is the case.
I really think that the issue was part miscommunication on the superiors part and part inexperience/ misunderstanding on my end.
For the most part, my experience at that job has been good so I am optimistic this will all work out for the best.
If worse comes to worst, I still have my current job with the company and can apply for the next promotion, whenever it comes up.
I really want this one though, so all of you who pray, please pray for me.
The rest of you pls keep your fingers crossed. :)

I have had those and know what a bummer they are.
I hope something amazing happens to you to turn things around and that it is all uphill from there.
I will pray for you. :)

Well if you are working for any decent size company then this is probably their policy. If you don't get it, I would look elsewhere and roll.
I had a potential job a few years ago that I had interviewed with every level of management. Their recruiter even told me I would receive an offer any day but there was one thing holding it up. An internal candidate from another state.
Well, that internal candidate got it, so I missed out on that one, but hey, I believe in the internal promotion system so I moved on to something else. It was a smart move because I really like what I am doing now.
