How can you tell that after one game?
Those 4 teams you mentioned have had that kind of rivalry for at least 3 seasons.

if it werent for a BS ray allen three off of a stolen inbound pass at the buzzer, the bobcats would be 2-0 vs the celtics this year. and the first one woulda been with gerald wallace out with an injury

Oh yea, I forgot about that game.
So then yea, I guess you can say they have that similar rivalry. For now, anyways.

The Bobcats's games aside, the Celtics are good and they are good at both ends of the court. The surprising part about the Celtics this year has been their defensive play. The last time I checked, the Celts led the NBA in fewest points allowed, Opp. FG% and Opp. 3-pt%.

About the rest of the rival teams in the league we have to take into account what Boston is doing. I haven’t seen them play much, but the people that follow numbers, stats, can realize that is not easy to do what they are doing. It doesn’t matter that they play in the East. Being 29-3 is indeed impressive.
Despite having the talent with ray Allen, Paul Pierce and KG, they’re the best defensive team on the NBA. Just a few talk about that aspect of Boston and that is what is making the difference for them. We haven’t faced each other yet and we’ll think about them come the time but there’s no doubt we have to respect them.

I agree abut the Spurs missed the boat but the DALLAS MAVS are gonna win the championship, not Bosten!

Thanks Hemotivo. I had not read that thread yet, or that quote from Manu.

It has been surprising to me because Paul Pierce and Ray Allen aren't really known for defense. Pierce is very handsy...a slapper, if you will, but he's not a strong defender.

A second look, though, shows Garnett actively anchoring the interior. Rondo is better than average defensively in the backcourt. Posey is a good defender and so is Tony Allen. They close out very well on shooters.

It's unusual to see a team with both elements...a strong interior and stingy exterior defense.

J-Rich played great. He was red hot tonight.

But the guy that was killing the Celtics down low was former Spur Nazr Mohammed.

Are you kidding? "Bosten"?

Look down at your keyboard and ask yourself: how far away really is the "e" from the "o"?

If memory serves, the Spurs made him an offer before the 05-06 season but he wanted more money.

Celtics are going to win it all this year. Spurs missed the boat.

We were all saying the same thing this time last year when we went on a 5-6 or 6-7 slide into early Feb. I was in SA to watch 3 losses to the Lakers, Rockets and someone else. Things didn't even turn around for the rodeo road trip. But after the All-Star break, everything clicked.

It's too early to tell whether the same will happen this year, but it is a tougher road to the trophy with the Celtics and Pistons looking strong.

Oh, and if you think Nazr Mohammed would take us to another ring, you are deluded. Sure, he's putting up numbers with the Cats, but he has terrible hands, a low bball IQ, and used to miss his defensive assignments all the time. Thanks to him for the contribution in 05, but that's it.
