You have to excuse us Lakers fan. It's been 4 long years since the Lakers were listed anywhere #1 in the NBA.

TEAM (LAST WK) REC. BREAKDOWN
1 L.A. Lakers (4) 25-11 Off: 112.1 (5), Def: 105.3 (7) -- The Lakers have won six straight and 10 of their last 11, but the one game that tells me that they're No. 1 right now is Wednesday's drubbing of the Hornets in New Orleans.
2 Boston (1) 30-5 Off: 110.2 (8), Def: 97.3 (1) -- The Celtics' last three games (two of them losses) have been three of their four worst offensive performances of the season, with an average offensive rating of 95.4.
3 Dallas (8) 26-11 Off: 113.5 (2), Def: 107.6 (17) -- The Mavs have picked up the D and they've won seven straight. Going back to their last loss (vs. Cleveland on Dec. 27) they have a 98.6 defensive rating over their last eight games.
4 Phoenix (7) 26-11 Off: 114.6 (1), Def: 109.2 (24) -- We'll throw away Thursday's blowout loss in Utah without Nash, Marion and Hill and instead go back to Monday's statement win over the Nuggets as a sign that the Suns may be getting stronger. A win over the Lakers on Thursday (10:30 p.m. ET, TNT) would be another one.
5 Detroit (2) 28-10 Off: 113.0 (4), Def: 103.2 (2) -- I understand that it was the fourth game in five nights on the road, but how in the world do the Pistons score only 65 points against (what was) the worst defense in the league? I guess you see it all during the course of 1230 games.

You're ranked #1 in some white guy's mind. That really merits it's own thread?

Congrats Lakeshow.
I know how it is to be emotionally invested in a team.
Enjoy it. It's fun when your team makes you happy.

Thanks man. I must say I looked forward to the rankings this morning, just to see if they had the heart to put the lakers on top. I have more respect for the NBA rankings than I do Steins rankings. Now his is a total joke. Hey, but for the week, I can feel real good about this team.! :toast

duncan228 is a lady. And 4 long years? That's like a Cowboys fan complaining about the playoff drought. Lakers fans don't get sympathy for their team's recent struggles. It's like feeling bad for Microsoft when they have a bad fiscal quarter.

Looks like you got all excited for nothing, Bynum is toast, the Lakers will surely fall.

yeah, it's nice to be #1 on a meaningless report that has no bearing on the game itself. Still, I like our chances with Bynum out....just need to keep Brown healthy.

Kobe revert to old self for 8 weeks now?

I'm also really happy about the Lakers being at #1. I think that the teams really working together and that's producing wins. If they can keep this going who knows what can happen.

Bynum's injury happened at probably the worst possible team barring the playoffs. Right as they hit the tough part of their schedule one of their main cogs goes down. Be interesting to see how they bounce back.

It might be a short-lived spotlight with Drew out 8 weeks, but the Lakers did just claim the #1 spot in the Western Conference tonight!!!
Tied for the best record with Phoenix and since the Lakers hold the tiebreaker ...

Go Lakers!!!!!!

Lakers playing very well. Hopefully the rest of the underachievers on this team (Lamar, Kwame) can step up and fill some of the void he left.

Lakers fans are fucking spoiled. If the Cardinals ever made the playoffs, I'd shit my pants with joy.
