Mack Brown got his big game, and he pulled it off. Probably the best coached game I have seen from him. When adversity arose, he did not swallow his nuts, he stayed with what was working. Well done.

Don't forget Lloyd Carr, that might have been the worst clock management I've ever seen in a football game, be it HS, college, or pro.

Yipee. They barely manged to beat a team that didn't even deserve to be playing in a BCS Bowl. Color me unimpressed.

They barely manged to beat a team that didn't even deserve to be playing in a BCS Bowl. Color me unimpressed. Horns or Cal & BCS made right choice. Mack had the balls to go to bat for his team & his team had balls to pull it out. Game a mile better than Fietsa Bowl. That was actually the "Should These Teams be in the BCS?" Bowl. Horns WON their bowl game & didn't embarass themsleves on nat'l TV like another couple of sad Big 12 teams. SEC & Big 10 PIMPED Big 12 teams that are true "NEVER BEEN IN THE RUNNING" teams. Could amway score in double digits next year? PLEASE!?!?! Oh well, Horns doing something right if they still have jealous haters.

Jealous Haters? Now that's funny. The Horns have been nothing short of major underacheivers for years now. What's there to be jealous of? They FIANLLY made it to their big bowl game and struggled against a Michigan team that should have been playing in a lesser bowl game. One of the worst Michigan teams in recent memory. I seriously epected a Longhorn blowout.

Don't let the fact that it was the Rose Bowl fool you. The only reason Michigan was picked is because their fans travel well. It's all about the might y dollar. Otherwise there would be a playoff system by now.

They FIANLLY made it to their big bowl game and struggled against a Michigan team that should have been playing in a lesser bowl game.

You know what the sad thing is? For a team that's so overrated by Hook Dem, their "Big Bowl Game" wasn't even for the national title. What a joke.

so if the Longhorns don't win by a certain margin...its a bad thing? Hey a win is a win. If Texas had lost you would be all over them, and rightfully so. They still have something to prove, beat OU. Just because YOU thought it should have been a blowout, doesn't make it any lesser of a win.

IceColdBrewski

If they struggle against a team that shouldn't even be in said bowl game, yes it is a bad thing.

Hey a win is a win.... Just because YOU thought it should have been a blowout, doesn't make it any lesser of a win.

When you consider that Texas has had the talent to be playing for the national championship for the last 2 years, it IS a lesser win. When you consider that they struggled against a team that had no business playing in the Rose Bowl, it makes it even more so. But that's just my opinion. I don't love the Horns or hate em. I just keep up with them. And I'd be a little disappointed after years of National Champioship talk.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:14 AM
Why shouldn't they be in that bowl game? They qualified by winning their conference. They followed the rules. When you consider that Texas has had the talent to win big games and up this point they had not, the fact that they got the chance they asked for and delivered, makes it a big win.

The Longhorns win, they get ripped up.

They loose they get ripped up.

Am I the only one that things anything that Mack Brown and this team does, will get critisized???

My question is, is Vince Young good enough for the Pros??
Or is he another Antwan Randle El.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:31 AM
Well, if nothing else, they won. They didn't pull an A&M or OSU. If OU can win, Big 12 goes 5-2.

IceColdBrewski
01-03-2005, 12:32 AM
No way Young makes it in the pro's. He sidearmes the ball too much.

I guess you Longhorn fans are just happy to get the monkey of your backs. Which is understandable. But I look at all those top recruiting classes and can't help but wonder what the hell they're doing playing in the Rose Bowl. Struggling against a team that can't even beat an Ohio St team that was playing in the Alamo Bowl. But I guess that's just me.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:37 AM
I agree with you about the underachieving and no one has been a bigger critic of Mack Brown than I but I have seen Texas lose too many of these games so I don't see this as small of a step as you do. This is the kind of game that can take the program to the next level....but as long as they continue to stumble against OU, they will not be there.

About Young, if he gets his throwing motion corrected, he can be another Michael Vick but right now, you are right....way too sidearm.

Duff McCartney
01-03-2005, 12:38 AM
Or is he another Antwan Randle El.

Randle El is a wide receiver....Young is a quarterback. Aside from being black, that's about the only thing they have in common....but I guess it's all the same to you.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:40 AM
He was referring to the fact that in college, Randle El played quarterback.

Duff McCartney
01-03-2005, 12:42 AM
If he was referring to that...then what does he mean? Are you implying that Randle El couldn't cut it as a QB? If so then you're right...but if you're saying he'll be nothing like Randle El then you are sadly mistaken.

Randle El is a very good player on a great Pittsburgh team.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:44 AM
He wasn't implying that Randle El couldn't cut it as a QB. Bill Cowher and NFL scouts did. That is why he is primarily a reciever.

Duff McCartney
01-03-2005, 01:03 AM
Neither Young or McNeal will go that high. McNeal isn't gonna amount to squat in the NFL.

I groaned when UT extended Brown's contract...I still think he needs to spend the rest of his career kissing Vince Young and Dusty Magnum's respective asses..

But give the man and the Horns their due...they finally won a big bowl game...first time since I was a young kid in the 70's..that UT has done me proud against a true top flight opponent in a post season bowl.

I've had the same feeling every year since about 76 or 77(maybe 78) and that Joe Montana CottonBowl that I listened to on a transistor radio...damn, I am still in shock.

And all you guys bagging on Michigan are crazy...they might have lost three games but that team is freaking loaded with talent.

UT 1-0 against Blue...Love it.

Now they just need to fix that Notre Dame problem while the fixing is good.

Maybe they've finally turned the corner...I'll try to be openminded...try to remember that even Royal didn't start winning National Titles overnight...it took him a while.

I don't love the Horns or hate em. I just keep up with them. And I'd be a little disappointed after years of National Champioship talk Could've fooled me but unless UT is doing something right nobody would hate them. ---
What's there to be jealous of? You haven't mentioned squat of your fav team so your team must be nowhere to be heard of. Oh, let me guess! Your team is USC or ou? Now THAT is funny! ---
You know what the sad thing is? For a team that's so overrated by Hook Dem, their "Big Bowl Game" wasn't even for the national title. What a joke. ALL bowl games except 1 are for the BCS Nat'l Championship. I thought that was common sense..I guess not. ---
If they struggle against a team that shouldn't even be in said bowl game, yes it is a bad thing Uhhhh, yeah. Every other team in a bowl game was bteer than Mich. :rolleyes ---
Randle El is a wide receiver....Young is a quarterback. Aside from being black, that's about the only thing they have in common....but I guess it's all the same to you. Please stick to the Beatles because you've just shown the extent of your football knowledge. :rolleyes --- For the record, I feel USC takes OU & most likely by double digits. Anyone else going to post their opinion besides Flash & I? Yeah Yeah, I know White's got a bad wheel but I don't see how ou can contain Smith, Jarrett, Bush & Byrd while having enough men in the box to hold USC's 4th string RB to under a 4yd avg. ou has been hurt by passing teams like amway & ok suck state & they don't half the D & special teams USC does. Yeah Yeah, Antonio Perkins was hurt hurt & blah blah blah. We'll see Tue night. APeterson might well have 150 yds because I bet USC's D hurts Jason White & shows him for what he is..an overrated QB who gets rattled badly.

Mr Dio

It's funny how everyone but Longhorn fans agree that UT should have done a lot more with all those top recruiting classes by now. I'm sorry if the truth hurts, but it's no secret outside of Texas. UT has been a major underacheiver when you consider the talent level.

Ice, you are correct when talking about the past but you refuse to let go of that when the present team has proved you wrong. All things can be overcome. Just give props to the current team and go on ragging on teams of the past. OKAY?

Props to Texas for pulling out a nice win in a big game, but I do think they managed it at the expense of a Michigan team that is just on its way up. Henne and Hart are true freshmen who lead Michigan to a Big 10 title. They will lose Edwards, but they're probably going to bring back Breaston (who is a horribly underrated player) and Jason Avant (who didn't play in the Rose Bowl, but was 2nd team All-Big 10 this year) and several other nice athletes on the offensive side. Michigan has Notre Dame and Ohio State in Ann Arbor next season. If they can survive a couple of road tests (at Wisconsin and at Iowa) they'll be in the thick of the national championship picture.

I can't see Vince Young playing QB in the NFL at any point in time. It's not just his mechanics that are bad for playing that position. But I could see VY becoming an excellent wide out in the Randy Moss mold.

samikeyp
01-03-2005, 12:56 PM
I could see Young in that same role. The kid is a hell of an athlete. And major props to that Michigan team, they are only going to get better. Iowa is going to be another good one. That kid Tate is fun to watch.

Some of you folks are living in a fucking bubble. What makes you think that Michigan was undeserving of their Rose Bowl bid? They won the Big 10 with one loss in conference, not exactly C-USA. Ohio State looked pretty fucking good in the Alamo Bowl last week against Okie State too. If the BCS wasn't around, Michigan would have played USC. Also remember, Cal got swatted by Tech, who UT beat by 30 this season.

Some of you don't approve of what the Horns have done with their talent over the last few years. That is your perogative. Right now, I'm pretty happy with our likely top 5 finish when five teams entered bowl play undefeated, a very exciting victory over a legendary program in the most tradition-laden bowl game out there, and knowing that our stud QB has two years of eligibility remaining.

I'm sorry if the truth hurts, but it's no secret outside of Texas. UT has been a major underacheiver when you consider the talent level. So, according to you every team that finishes with a top 1-5(?) recruiting class should win the title in Jan? Your math is just a LITTLE WRONG. That would mean we'd have 1-5 nat'l champions EVRY yr!?! Great math! Have another beer. For the record UT HAS underachieved in the past but if having only 1 loss at the end of the yr is underacheiving I'll take it. The title will come, ask Bowden @ FSU. Do you need me to tell you who he is & how long it took him @ his current school?

The problem with the anti-Mack folks is that they saw Bob Stoops come in and win a national title in only his second season with someone else's recruits. Then UT allegedly beats OU in the recruiting wars every season and then gets pasted on the field in Dallas. If it was just a random conference loss every year instead of to the same team over and over again they'd cut him some slack. But OU winds up going to title games and UT has been playing in the Cotton or Holiday Bowls with our top five classes.

If Texas would have won the Red River Shootout, they'd be playing Tuesday night against USC. They didn't, but beat everyone else they lined up against...some easily, some not. Unfortunately, that's not enough anymore.

CosmicCowboy

The Big 12 South is just a damn tough division...and Oklahoma is a damn good recruiting team too...look at Adrian Peterson...Hes a Texas boy but snubbed Texas for Oklahoma...obviously not being in the shadow of Cedrick Benson his freshman year had a lot to do with that but OU has great recruiting classes every year too...

It's only going to get tougher now with Tech showing it's claws nationally against Cal and A&M returning to glory. Thank God that Okie State coach Les Miles is going to LSU since that's been the only sign besides Baylor of any team getting weaker.
