You made the comparison between Manu and Dirk. One is a top-ten franchise player, the other is a top-25 borderline All-Star. A team with Dirk as its best player probably won't win a title, but it might. A team with Manu as its best player definitely won't.

Contrare numbnuts, a Manu picture was posted after several Dirk pics. I made no such comparison.
Dirk is better then Manu? If so, it's only b/c he needs to be. Comparing a PF to a SG though, can you really do that? Is Manu expected to post up and get boards? Is Dirk expected to run the point at times and fast break?

NBA is much more competitive than the olympics. You have an 82 game season, then 4 best-of-7 playoff series to go through before you can win a title. I'd say winning an NBA title is a much tougher and greater accomplishment than winning the Olympics.

Wow. What a Homer call. And here I thought Dirk is better than Manu because he's more talented. I guess all PFs are better than all two-guards then, by your logic. I'd rather have Ronnie Turiaf than Manu.
Comparing a PF to a SG though, can you really do that? Is Manu expected to post up and get boards? Is Dirk expected to run the point at times and fast break?
They have different responsibilities, but if Manu were that good, you would build a team around him, instead of having him being a complementary star. And as we all know, Dirk doesn't really post up that much, he's basically a 2-guard in a 4's body. He's most effective when he gets the ball on the wing and takes a two-dribble pull-up jumper.

Why would they build around Manu when Timmy was already on the team?
If he was someone to build around, why wouldn't the Spurs trade him for several other very good players that would have filled the needs of the Spurs in the years they didnt win championships? Such as in 03-04, when they really needed some good 3-pt shooters? If he was so great, I'm sure he would have had quite a bit of trade value, and the Spurs could have more rings by now.

I'm just saying, a two-guard can be a franchise player that you can build around, such as Jordan, Kobe, etc. Obviously Manu isn't that good, but if he were, the offense the Spurs run and some of the personnel might be different, and Duncan might have to modify his game to accomodate Manu, rather than the other way around.

McGrady's place on that list is becoming more and more debatable, though.
Yea, but unfortunately that is due to injury. He is one of the most gifted and talented players the NBA has ever seen (IMO, equally or more talented than Kobe) but his injuries have killed him.

His ability to take over the game by himself is on the same level as the guys you mentioned above.
On a nightly level without a superstar like Tim Duncan? Uhh, no.

No. The point is, is that Manu is not a franchise level player. Hes a very good player, but he is not on the level of guys like Kobe, Wade, T-Mac, Lebron, etc...
Never said he was

Never said you said he was either. However, it was you who said that the only reason Dirk is better than Manu is because "he has to be." If you are comparing them, then you are comparing Manu to a franchise level player, saying he is on Dirk's (a franchise level player) level.

I would tend to disagree. McGrady has shown that he is not capable of carrying a weak team to a respectable record (see Magic), or a decent team to any playoff success (Rockets).
His problem seems to be his reluctance to play defense until absolutely necessary (his defense on Dirk in that classic playoffs series was impressive, but otherwise, it's very pedestrial), he takes a long time to decide on what to do with the ball. Yes, he has decent assist numbers, but him holding on the ball too long until he passes it for the score generally kills any offensive momentum and reduce his teammates into catch-and-shoot players.
McGrady is also not as hard a worker without the ball as Kobe Bryant. I know it sounds weird, but Kobe Bryant is not as bad a ballhog as many perimeter players in the league, and he can run a crisp offense on many occasions. It is his job to jack up 35 shots a game the last few years because the other Lakers were not able to generate much offense outside of Bryant, but this year, with the emergency of Bynum, that seems to have changed.

I agree, but luckily his injuries this year do not involve his back which has been good since going to the Waco-witch doc.
This year he has bumped knees with an opponent and an elbow...weird kind of stuff.

^ You may laugh but Bradley had talent. I think he was just one of those guys that was pushed into basketball because of his height. He just didn't have the desire or work ethic to be great. Most of the times he sucked but there were occasional stretches when Nellie would put him in and he'd be the best player on the court.
