Yeah we cant blame the refs. We had chances to win and couldnt do it, plus the calls sucked on both sides. At least me fought.

And what the hell would Mav's fans know about champions??

The closest Mav fan has ever been to a champion is when sitting down at breakfast and pouring the wheeties in their bowl and realizing on of the Spurs was on their box.

You know, that's great and all, but I think at this point a standard form answer might be beneficial to all Spurs fans wishing to engage horrendously unclever smack talk.

Next time just go ahead and post "<Insert contrived championship-count reference here>", and I"ll go ahead and fill in the blanks myself.

I haven't been this frustrated with the officiating in a long time. Yes, the Spurs played poorly, but they were fighting their way back and those two bad calls really killed the momentum.

I'm talking about the no call when Tony was mugged and then Z scored at the other end, and then the "could go either way" charge on Manu, and oh yeah, let's not forget the obvious charge by Lebron that the officials just plain ignored!

The one ref looked about 25 years old and he was just horrible. I'm really surprised neither Pop nor Timmy got a technical tonight - they were so pissed.

I hate how everyone thinks Lebron is just the bomb - I get so tired of everyone kissing his feet.

i don't remember seeing a single dunk in this game.

not such a bad loss for spurs as some of you claim.

spurs missed alot of 3 pointers and the cavs made alot of outside shots. things that are uncharacteristic for both teams. 1 more 3 pointer made by the spurs or 1 less by the cavs and the spurs could have won it. great game by manu and timmy. tony still feeling it with his ankles and he did get hammered alot on the drive. ime, brent and bonner missed quite a few 3 pointers. i don't think finley attempted a single 3.

to me, the difference for the cavs tonight was andy. his energy and hussle got the cavs alot of second chances and a flop to go their way.

Exactly! :tu

And I called it on page 1 of this thread, Bob would give us fits, and that's EXACTLY what he did. He was the difference.

yeah, he wouldn't have had to worry about getting to the court in time.

Oh well, regular season game. This is disappointing so far, but I'm not really worried. Maybe this loss will finally wake them up, because they actually played pretty well in the 4th, defense and everything.

We need to start looking into some trades.

The officiating sucked, but that wasn't our downfall.

This team just has no spark whatsoever this year.

They had enough to get back from 11 down against a team that's playing very well.

I predict this is the low point of the season. They will start to improve from here.

The Spurs did not play nearly as poorly as they have been, the D was good in the 4th, and they missed about 8 open 3s. We're on the way up.

Can't blame the refs for this loss, even with the poorly called 4th Q.

We had plenty of opportunities and were beaten by a better team on the night.

Yes, I CAN blame the refs...they called a charge on SA that should've been a block by LeBron...and then LeBron plowed head first right into Oberto and they called a block on Oberto...that's two 4-point shifts...the Spurs would've won this game by 4-6 points if not for those two BULLSHIT calls.

That said, the Spurs need to shoot better, so the refs cannot be a factor.

Ilet's not forget the obvious charge by Lebron that the officials just plain ignored!

Ok, the difference was Manu actually went THROUGH Lebron (iffy call, either way). On the Lebron no-call, Lebron pulled up and Oberto did a pretty poor job of selling the call. There wasn't that much contact really, and he flopped pretty poorly (stutter step stutter step then fell). If you want that call, go straight to the deck.

Bottom line - Tony Parker missed two foul shots and Manu missed a wide open jumper from 8 feet. You can't blame the refs (especially after they gave that continuation to TP when he was fouled then took two steps and put it in).

SpurOutofTownFan
01-17-2008, 10:55 PM
We can't say TP lost the game because of the FTs - any player can have that bad luck, or whatever it was.

They could have called a time out in the last call. The game was lost because they played like garbage for 2 quarters. They are getting used to play like shit and then try to come back at the 4th

The refs I think overall gave more calls to the cavs - pretty difficult to stop a player like Lebron when the refs don't call anythign against him, ever.

The spurs in the paint were hacked several times and no calls were made and those hacks are there in the videos. I don't think TD should get pissed because he isnt getting any calls cause he tends to play worse when he does that.

Overall it's sad cause I think the spurs were playing like garbage but they werent mailing it. The bench is playing like garbage lately and only have surges from time to time, the rest of the game is pathetic.

Anyway, bad game, ugly loss, probably the worst of the season for how it was played and how bad they wanted to win it and couldn't.

That's what scares me. We are way way way too reliant on the 3 ball.

I understand open shots, but Bonner has completely disappeared, Finley shoots more than TD sometimes, and I'm actually grateful when Bowen passes on shooting a 3 these days.

The fourth quarter had a good effort, shitty reffing, but the chemistry still seems off. I don't know if it has to do with so many inconsistent lineups and tinkering, but the one thing that keeps me sane through all of this is that dallas and phoenix aren't running away with the conference despite our woes.

True. The Mavs are worse than irrelevant. Let's talk about the game instead.

The Cavs, those awful, stinking, junior-varsity scrubs, just beat the champs on their home floor. It's not exactly unprecedented -- the Spurs have lost to worse teams at home during some of their other championship seasons. And they're not exactly playing their best ball of the season right now.

So, this loss sucks. But let's keep it in perspective. The Silver & Black will be ready come May.

Don't try to justify that last non call.

I already did.

Don't try to justify a loss by saying the refs blew the game. There was poor calls on both sides, and when it came down to it the Cavs hit the wide open shot and the Spurs didn't. Refs are not perfect, nor will they ever be. It's a lot easier for me to sit at home on my couch and watch something in slow motion and yell at the screen than it is for an official to make a call in real speed.

Have you actually been watching TP's free throw shooting this season? Especially the last month and a half. He's lucky if he hits over 50% of this free throws. Parker was shooting very well from the line last season, this season he's really, really bad. He's taken two steps back. I would rather Oberto shoot free throws than TP in the clutch.

Amen. He had about 5 secs to do anythign from the other side of the court - he took a shot which was semi-open (it wasn't wide-open as some are saying) and misssed. Some people say he might have taken a 3 instead - its debatable when you only need a 2 to tie and you only have 1 sec to make a decision. Had he taken the 3 and missed people would be talking about how he choked because he didn't take the 2 with some time on the clock. Ridiculous.

Bro--check it out. I've seen the trophies. I'm well aware how many trophies the Spurs (read: not you, not him) have. I'm also well aware as to how many the Mavs have.

What's humorous is the implication that such things (which, by the way, none of us here directly participated in obtaining) give Spurs fan homeboy some ultimate trump card in basketball discussion.

There's something infinitely rich about a Spurs fan who repeatedly says "Mav fan can't talk--he has zero championships". If I talk anyway, what the hell are you gonna do about it?

You said it yourself you only come in here to troll when Spurs lose so why should Spurs fans treat you with any respect. You'll get plenty of ring talk buddy if you only want to talk shit.

Never said that. I'm here for 15-20 minutes every few days for various reasons. Sometimes I engage in intelligent dialog with intelligent Spurs fans, which I enjoy. It's a rarity, but it happens.

Pop wasn't at all frustrated with it. Maybe it was intended. I thought Manu should have drived though, or kicked it because basically it was a 1-on-3 play.
:tu
pop never calls a timeout to setup a potentially game-winning play in the regular season. he knows he has a team of veteran players that have won championships. he wants his guys to sort things out on their own. that said, i still wish manu called a timeout to set up the play. still, gotta love his guts.

You can talk all you want.

But don't dismiss 4 championship with a lame "YOU didn't win any rings, THEY did".

You're point is just....stupid. Why do the Spurs have a big parade after championships to thank the fans? Why are the Spurs such a big part of the community? It's because the Fans are a HUGE part of what the Spurs do.

But I guess you, being a Mavs fan, wouldn't know much about that. You know, parades, and all.

P.S - Yes, any fan that only uses the 'count the rings' argument is retarded. But equally retarded is the other fan whose only response is 'durrrr you dont have any of the rings, they do'.

I would have to watch it again but I don't think manu had enough time to drive to the basket. I think he got to the jumper in the nick of time. but as i said i have to watch it again.
It was about 5 seconds I think to run the whole court. He had about 1 second to drive to the basket, but maybe Manu thought it was for the best. Bad shot though, maybe only Kobe could have pulled that one.

That was some awful officiating. The Spurs were attacking but couldn't buy a call whereas the Cavs whether attacking or on jumpers were getting the calls.

Now it wasn't all on the refs as the Spurs went through stretches where they were not passing the ball. Pop even commented on how the ball movement for the last month hasn't been there at all.

The big 3 did their thing though at times they turned it over or forced the issue too much.

Nothing out of Elson, Bonner, Oberto, or Vaughn.

Udoka was ok and should at least provide some rest for Bowen. Obviously he's not going to guard guys like Baron, Lebron, Howard like Bowen does but it's nice having him for an option to throw out there.

I knew Finley would struggle with the return of Barry. Pop's really messed with his minutes though. Instead of sitting him around the 6 minute mark he's pulling at the 7 minute mark in the 1st quarter and in the 3rd pulling him at the 10 minute mark. Not to mention his shot attempts/touches are going down. Thankfully he's not pouting about it.

It was good to see Barry out there again. A few mistakes but his first game back after injury it's to be expected.

he was hitting his shots all game long. and 5 seconds is a lot of time to set up a play.

Still don't think you're getting it man. Maybe you should go back and actually examine the comment that made me say that. Fans have every right to be proud, but if you say "You can't talk until you win one", I'm gonna call out that bullshit every single time. I'll talk if I want, and guess what--I'll do it more intelligently than most of the crew on here.

Frankly, one of the most interesting things to me is seeing how quickly 75% of Spurs fans go to that as a response to anything a Mavs fan says. Anything.

It was a good shot by Manu...it just didn't fall...oh, well...it shouldn't have had to come down to a last-second shot like that, anyway...the Spurs should have won this one by 10 points. No energy at all until the end of the 3rd quarter and way too many stupid mistakes.

I'm also gonna go ahead and throw this guy into the hat of "best Spurs fan posters to deal with". Not because he actually offers anything substantial on the surface, but I'm so thoroughly convinced it's all a bit that I think he might actually be the smartest one on here.

Manu choked.

Call a time out.

One of the announcers during the game had said that Manu was given the instructions from Pop to not call a time out...but instead to just go ahead...which is what he did...

I think the bigger problem was not that TP missed those FTs, it was that he went in and tried to get fouled in the first place when there was barely any time left, knowing that he's not a high percentage FT shooter...I think in this case it would have been better for Manu to try to get fouled, since he is known for clutch FT shooting especially and is who Pop wants to shoot FT in crunch time...Plus, Manu had 31pts already...So I think he should have went in at that time, and did something, either make a shot or get fouled...

However, I still don't think TP should be blamed for this loss. In my opinion, one player cannot be the cause of a team loss, when a team losses, there are other players who didn't step up/made mistakes/etc...

We did not deserve to win this game after we played poorly again for most of the game. We started out well in the first and played with more urgency in the fourth. But as has been said, this team needs to put together effort for the full 48. And I am really tired of digging a whole and trying to fight our way back. No matter who you are playing, you cannot always depend on a come from behind win.

While everyone is making a big deal about the WC standings right now, I honestly have to say... who cares? When teams can move up and down drastically with one loss or one win, why be happy or upset about your team's ranking. IT IS JANUARY PEOPLE! Things can change a lot between now and April. And we all know that you don't necessarily have to be the number one seed to win the whole thing. It's more about which teams are playing well come April.

Why is this whole thread acting like we MUST win a regular season game. We don't have to win shit, lol.

Think of how hard it is to care about going full blast during the regular season when you've won three out of the last five.

As long as we get IN the playoffs, we're fine.
