Every Spur has good value compared to what they get paid. The only salary that I may question is Barry's and his is about to be off the books.

Finley is the 2nd highest player in the league, right behind Shaq.

Finley's the biggest theif.

But, it's ok...Cuban is his mark.

I don't know why I bother but Finley is not getting paid $21 million by Cuban this year. When he was waived his money was defered in $5 million dollar installments. Cuban will be paying him that until he's like 40 years old.

Obviously Finley isn't hurting for money but I don't understand why people keep thinking he's making $24 ($21 from Cuban, $3 million from the Spurs) million this year.

Cutting Finley was absolutely the right thing to do because of the luxury tax amnesty. It was ridiculous to give him that contract in the first place, but at the time, we were coming off our first playoff appearance in 11 years, Finley was still our best player, and he was getting FA interest from none other than San Antonio. I doubt the Spurs would've given him that contract though.

Francisco Elson....

I know he only makes $3M, but this guy is TERRIBLE. Keep in mind that the Spurs could have two players next year (Mahinmi & Splitter) that collectively make less money than Elson does this year and, I would argue, are individually better than Elson.

Just curious, who was available for 3 million at the center position better than Elson that the Spurs passed on?

Lorenzen Wright....that's how bad Elson has been.

Every useless big man given a contract between 2004-2007. Erik Dampier stole Steve Nash's money in Big D and basically cost them a title due to that waste of height and head band. No one on the Spurs is stealing though.

Kwame Brown makes 9 million per year Elson is bargain for how bad he is!

Nobody said Kwame was better or worse for the dollar than Elson.

I'm saying Elson isn't worth the $3M the Spurs are paying him....he's shite.

How much is he worth then? How much do you pay crappy 7 footers in the NBA? I'm not going to look up every centers salary and then average what price for a center is, but if you want to do that go right ahead. 3 million isn't that much money considering that he is 7 feet tall.

Mahinmi makes less than a million....so he's a better value as a skinny F/C.

And next year, Splitter will come on board also making less than a million dollars.

Elson is worth the vet min and even at that price I'd let him walk if I were the Spurs.

They make less, but Pop doesn't play rookies. The only rookie that Pop has ever played was Tony. And after winning a title the Spurs wanted to bring back the entire team so paying 3 million isn't that much. How much is the league minimum 1 million or so? And if it around that much what could have the Spurs done with that extra 2 million sign Mahinmi or Splitter who Pop wouldn't have played anyways?

You're getting away from the simple point of this thread....

The point is not to ask who the Spurs could've gotten instead or who was available....

The point was to say that Elson is not a $3M NBA-calibur Center. That's my opinion, and I don't care if you or anyone else share it.

Bottom Line: Spurs gave Elson $6M and he hasn't done enough in my opinion to earn the money he's been given.

BTW, the only reason I brought up Mahinmi and Splitter is because someone posed the question and so I thought I'd give a couple examples of current Spurs players who's potential value exceeds what they're being paid.

I could've gone with Parker, Ginobili, Bowen, or even Udoka....
