'Stingy' America Should Cut Off Corrupt UN
Doug Patton

Are there no limits to the audacity of the corrupt, lying socialists who run the United Nations? After bungling or pilfering virtually every project the UN has ever managed, this useless organization should now be in a position of having to justify its existence before receiving another cent from the United States of America.

Instead, after watching these leeches administer the now-infamous oil-for-food program -- through which billions of dollars earmarked for the destitute people of Iraq were instead used to line the pockets of thieving United Nations bigwigs -- Americans now have to listen to the man in charge of UN humanitarian relief accuse us of being "stingy."

You know, I believe our esteemed President has taken the first steps toward this goal by coordinating his own relief effort in South Asia...

Just a thought.

My personal comments: The following makes the Democrats look very petty and
bad in view of the fact that President Clinton, and President H.W. Bush just
signed on with our present President to assist in the aiding of the tsunami
victims. Oh well, perhaps enough people will come to understand that the
Democratic Party has totally lost touch with reality and has been hijacked
so far to the left by the socialists that they have left their old
constituency in the dust. Many of those who used to be Democrats are
becoming Republicans or Independents.. Read on....

CONSERVATIVE TRUTH 01/03/05
Democrats and UN Politicize Asian Disaster
By Tom Barrett
[email protected]

They haven't even finished counting the bodies, but already the Democrats
and UN officials are trying to use the tsunami disaster for political gain.
Over one hundred thousand have died in Asia, but all these ghouls can think
about is how they can use the disaster to bash the United States and its
President.

This morning a Democrat spokesman was asked on a talk show what she thought
about the US response to the disaster. She said that she thought there was
"something wrong" when the US pledged $35 million for relief, but the
Inaugural is going to cost $40 million. She then made a snide comment about
how much body armor the $40 million would buy. Her comments were obviously
"talking points" issued by the Democratic National Committee, because I have
heard almost exactly the same phrases from other Democrat "strategists" and
"spokesmen" in the last few days

There were several things wrong with her statements. First, the Inaugural
celebrations were planned long before the disaster, and the funds were
pledged for it before most people ever heard of a tsunami.

Second, she neglected to differentiate between public and private funds. The
funds the President set aside for the disaster were public funds - taxpayer
dollars. The funds donated for the Inaugural were private donations. She
knows the President can't divert those funds from the purpose for which they
were donated to a relief effort. She also knows that there is more than
enough money for relief. She was simply using this as an opportunity to use
the tragedy of hundreds of thousands of Asians to further her political
agenda. In the political trade, it's called "dirty tricks."

Third, at the time of the interview, the money pledged by the US had already
been increased ten times to $350 Million. She knew this, but she artfully
covered her tracks by saying that the "initial" amount pledged was $35
Million, and then contrasted that with the $40 Million for the Inaugural.
Most people didn't hear the word "initial"; they only heard her contrast the
two amounts. Those who had not heard the other news reports about the $350
Million came away thinking that the President spent more on the Inaugural
than on the disaster. Exactly the misinformation she wanted to disseminate.

Fourth, regarding the dig about body armor. She gave the impression that the
President was deliberately spending money on the Inaugural that could have
been spent on body armor. She knows that is not true, but, hey she's a
Democrat. What should we expect? But just in case she's stupid and not a
deliberate liar, here are the facts. First, the donors decided to give money
to the Inaugural event, not to buy body armor. Second, as everyone in
Washington (even the dumbest liberal) knows, the problem of the lack of body
armor in Iraq has nothing to do with money and everything to do with
production capability. The money is there; the manufacturers just can't
produce the stuff fast enough. But what Democrat is going to let facts stand
in the way of a chance to trash the President?

What about the UN? High UN officials have accused the US of being "stingy"
in its response to the Asian disaster. And Democrats like the ones I have
seen on the talk shows this week have disgraced their party by agreeing with
them. Let's do something that liberals in the UN and the Democrat Party
hate. Let's look at some FACTS.

FACT: The people of the United States number only FIVE per cent of the
world's population. And yet this one nation, the most generous of all
nations, gives FORTY per cent of ALL the humanitarian and relief aid given
by the almost TWO HUNDRED nations on the globe. If you include the money
given directly by the United Nations for relief, most if which is extorted
from the United States, by some estimates we give FIFTY per cent of ALL aid
worldwide.

FACT: The $35 Million figure was the initial reaction of the United States
at the time when about 5,000 were reported dead. As new reports have come
in, and the magnitude of the disaster has become clearer, the money pledged
has risen to the current figure of $350 Million. According to US aid
officials, that number is expected to eventually rise to $1 BILLION.

FACT: People who are experienced in disaster relief will tell you that
resources are much more important than money. What earthly good does it do
anyone to have millions of dollars of food and medicine piling up in ports?
The real need at this point is for men and equipment to get the supplies to
where they are needed, and the US is meeting that need. Other nations are
tossing money at the problem while the US is "rolling up its sleeves" and
DOING something. We are sending troops and aircraft to get the relief to the
people before more die. But of course the UN won't include those costs
(which could easily exceed the cash donations in their figures).

The bottom line: The UN and The Democratic Party leaders hate the US and
will take every opportunity to bash her. (Please notice that I said the
Democrat Party Leaders, NOT the members. I believe most Democrats have been
misled by the artful liars that lead their Party.) They will use any dirty
trick, even this shameful ploy of using a world disaster, to advance their
cause.

What is their cause? The weakening and eventual destruction of the US which
will allow the establishment of a true one-world government. The United
States is the only world power that can defeat them. So they will do
anything they can to cause harm to this great nation.

Gee, I guess that would put us $500M behind Japan instead of only $150M. You people need to grow the fuck up. You give because it's the right thing to do, not to receive praise for it. That's a child's attitude. WGAF what the UN says? Obviously, YOU do...

So, Japan also has 4 desalination ships, a carrier group, countless helicopters and C-130 assets and troops in the Indian Ocean?

Japan contributes 20% of the UN budget -- some of which will be used in this disaster?

Japan contributes 40% of all disaster aid annually?

Japan contributes 60% of all food aid annually? (oh wait, that'd be 120%, wouldn't it?)

Japanese citizens are contributing to the tune of 150 to 200 million (so far)?

The point is, the US was immediately bashed by the UN and the Left and the French for not doing their share in this calamity. The initial 35 Million figure was all the President could give without Congressional approval and the 350 Million figure is only an estimate of what will surely be a much larger sum once Congress convenes and approves further aid (that's right the 350 million has to be approved by Congress).

I find is amazing how they ripped Bush at the ranch for not rushing back to Washington (while, all the time he was ordering the deployment of military assets and authorizing the maximum amount of aid he could -- legally); while, the UN's Kofi Annan gets a pass on continuing his holiday 'til Thursday and STILL not having the UN act together.

No, we're not bragging about our generosity...it just gets a little old hearing all the bashing when, without a fucking doubt, we are the most benevolent, generous, caring, and responsive nation this planet has ever known...

All you need to know about the UN vs. US relief efforts is the US and Australia have now been airlifting in food, water, and medical supplies for a good 48 hours as of tonight, while by Thursday the UN hopes to have its "coordination staff" set up at one of the nicest hotels in Thailand.

Some people talk the talk, others walk the walk. Kofi's holding press conferences about what the UN plans to do, meanwhile the US is already giving people food, water, shelter, and medical assistance.

CNSNews.com Commentary
January 03, 2005

As the death toll mounts in the areas hit by Sunday's tsunami in southern Asia, private organizations and individuals are scrambling to send out money and goods to help the victims. Such help may be entirely proper, especially considering that most of those affected by this tragedy are suffering through no fault of their own.

The United States government, however, should not give any money to help the tsunami victims. Why? Because the money is not the government's to give. Every cent the government spends comes from taxation. Every dollar the government hands out as foreign aid has to be extorted from an American taxpayer first.

Year after year, for decades, the government has forced American taxpayers to provide foreign aid to every type of natural or man-made disaster on the face of the earth: from the Marshall Plan to reconstruct a war-ravaged Europe to the $15 billion recently promised to fight AIDS in Africa to the countless amounts spent to help the victims of earthquakes, fires and floods -- from South America to Asia. <more>

Article 2 on compassionate conservatism-- This one from HundredPercenter:

315 Million Too Much

The cataclysmic events that have gripped South East Asia, specifically Indonesia and Sri Lanka, is melancholic for every man with an iota of decency. However, as horrible the Indo-Chinese Tsunami was- is it America's responsibility to bear the greatest burden, financially?

As America deals with an enormous national debt and trade deficit, it seems foolhardy for America to donate such large sums of dollars to a place that is corrupt and riddled with Islamic extremism from the top down. The prospect of colossal sums of dollars being stolen by rebel factions in Sri Lanka and Indonesia is great. Nonetheless- many do gooders feel that we must contribute billions upon billions of dollars- in order to kiss and make up with Muslims.

As a matter of principle- HundredPercenter is not donating a dime to any charity or relief effort in Asia- where anti-Americanism runs unfettered.

Call me callous.

More UNreality . . . But the Dutch Get It (http://diplomadic.blogspot.com/)

"Well, dear friends, we're now into the tenth day of the tsunami crisis and in this battered corner of Asia, the UN is nowhere to be seen -- unless you count at meetings, in five-star hotels, and holding press conferences."

"Aussies and Yanks continue to carry the overwhelming bulk of the burden, but some other fine folks also have jumped in: e.g., the New Zealanders have provided C-130 lift and an excellent and much-needed potable water distribution system; the Singaporeans have provided great helo support; the Indians have a hospital ship taking position off Sumatra. Spain and Netherlands have sent aircraft with supplies."

"The UN continues to send its best product, bureaucrats. Just today the city's Embassies got a letter from the local UN representative requesting a meeting for 'Ms. Margareeta Wahlstrom, United Nations Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator and the Secretary-General's Special Coordinator for Humanitarian Assistance in Tsunami-afected countries.' Wow! Put that on a business card! And she must be really, really special because she has the word 'coordinator' twice in her title!"

"The letter, in typically modest UN style, goes on to explain that 'Ms. Wahlstrom's main task will be to provide leadership and support to the international relief effort. She will undertake high-level consultations with the concerned governments in order to facilitate the delivery of international assistance.' Oh, and she'll be visiting from January 4-5."

"Once, again, a hearty Diplomadic 'WOW!' She's going to do all that in two days! The Australians and we have been feeding and otherwise helping tens-of-thousands of people stay alive for the past ten days, and still have a long, long way to go, but she's going to wrap the whole thing up in a couple of days of meetings. Thank goodness she's here to provide the poor lost Aussies and Yanks with leadership. The Diplomad bows in awe to such power and wisdom. The letter is signed, by the way, by the same UN official who suggested a couple of days back that the Australian and US air traffic controllers in Aceh should don UN blue (see our post of January 2.)"

"Ok, enough with the UN; you get the picture. Now to the EU. The EU could copy the Australian-American model of acting quickly and effectively to save lives, or they could copy the UN model of meeting at a leisurely pace to plan for the possibility of setting up a coordination center that will consider making a plan for the possibility of an operations center to consider beginning to request support for the tsunami's victims. Ah, my wise friends, guess which model of 'action' the EU chose? No need to emulate those 'cowboys' from Australia and the USA with their airplanes and loading crews working round-the-clock; oh, no, much too tacky, sweaty and dirty. No need to feed into the system those goofy Aussiyankeebushowardian New World Anglo-Saxons already have created. No, they'll follow the much more elegant Kofi Annan model. A couple of EU planners have shown up to begin making arrangements for an assessment team to arrive, etc., etc., you know the rest. Meanwhile, people die."

"But all is not lost. The Dutch, who on occasion show the great common sense for which they were once justifiably famous, have signed up with the Aussiyankeebushowardian Core Group. Thanks to a European Diplomad (Yes, The Diplomadic insurgency has gone international!) we have in our possession a short situation report circulated by the Dutch at the most recent EU meeting here in this corner of the Far Abroad. This January 2 report is written by local Dutch diplomats who traveled to Aceh and saw the reality on the ground. We will cite the two principal paragraphs, and leave them unedited in their original rather charming Dutch-English,"

"The US military has arrived and is clearly establishing its presence everywhere in Banda Aceh. They completely have taken over the military hospital, which was a mess until yesterday but is now completely up and running. They brought big stocks of medicines, materials for the operation room, teams of doctors, water and food. Most of the patients who were lying in the hospital untreated for a week have undergone medical treatment by the US teams by this afternoon. US military have unloaded lots of heavy vehicles and organize the logistics with Indonesian military near the airport. A big camp is being set up at a major square in the town. Huge generators are ready to provide electricity. US helicopters fly to places which haven't been reached for the whole week and drop food. The impression it makes on the people is also highly positive; finally something happens in the city of Banda Aceh and finally it seems some people are in control and are doing something. No talking but action. European countries are until now invisible on the ground. IOM staff (note: this is a USAID-funded organization) is very busy briefing the incoming Americans and Australians about the situation."

"The US, Australia, Singapore and the Indonesian military have started a 'Coalition Co-ordination Centre' in Medan to organize all the incoming and outgoing military flights with aid. A sub-centre is established in Banda Aceh."

"Isn't that nice? Europeans with a sense of reality."

"The only fault The Diplomad can find with the Dutch report is that it understates the role of the Australians in the relief effort -- they deserve considerably more credit than this report gives them. It's hard to praise the Aussies too much for what they have done in the wake of the tsunami. They are absolutely splendid -- too bad they've got that thing about that weird game, uh, cricket, is it?"

"Anyhow, soon I will return to my habitual corner of the Far Abroad and leave my colleagues here to deal with the UN, the EU and their Coordination Efforts."

I watch all this bullshit with the UN doing nothing but talking, while a coalition centered on the US and Australia is already working hard and saving lives, and can't help but think the UN is on the road to disappearance, with a newer order in the world where coalitions are formed with common sense and relevancy, not out of diplomatic doublespeak.

[STINGY] Americans Open Wallets for Tsunami Relief (http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&u=/ap/20050104/ap_on_re_us/tsunami_americans_respond_1&printer=1)

NEW YORK - From antibiotics to clothes to cash — lots of it — U.S.-based relief groups report an overwhelming response from donors moved by the devastation of the Indian Ocean tsunami, with more than $200 million raised as of Tuesday. One charity said online pledges were coming in at the rate of $100,000 an hour.
