The Lakers come to town with a better record than the Spurs. The Spurs are playing their second to last home game before the Rodeo Road Trip, so getting a win here is pretty important. It'd be nice to build off of the Bobcats victory and actually string together some wins.

A loss wouldn't be tragic but a win would go a long ways toward getting the confidence back.

Oh and the Spurs have lost seven straight games to teams with a winning record. It'd be nice to end that streak.

That should be reason enough to get up for this game.

Our confidence or the teams? :)

I'd like a win of course but if they play well I'll be happy. The record doesn't bother me if they bring it and leave it all on the court.
I liked how they looked in most of the Bobcats game, I'd like to see the energy continue.
I hope Duncan rises, he's been great to watch.

A loss wouldn't be tragic but a win would go a long ways toward getting the confidence back.I disagree. A home loss to a Bynum-less Laker team would be tragic.

This ish needs to stop now.

Losing @ATT to Lakers w/o Bynum would be another embarrassment alongside getting blown out @ATT by Pistons.

It's only January, way too early for the Spurs to get serious.

Last time Spurs were on National TV against the Pistons, i said i felt good about them and we all know how that turned out, so i feel like shit about them tonight, let the reverse happen.

Dunno when the Spurs started playing "must wins" in January.

But what the hell, lets change em now and make em peak in march

:rolleyes There's a difference between must wins and playing hard. They can play hard now and not peak in March. Plus, if you want them to peak for the playoffs now is the time for them to start sharpening up.

This is going to be a huge game, we have to start being able to intimidate opponents and getting statement victories again; if teams keep running over us we won't have the same SPAM effect. I predict a win by at least 7.

Did anyone see how ESPN is advertising this game?

They show Kobe dunking on the Spurs twice and said he dominated them the last game. But the footage is at the AT&T Center. If the footage is from this season, they lost that game. Also, they fail to mention that Duncan and Parker were out the last time they played.

On Sports Center, they made it a point to mention that TD only had five points the last time he faced the Lakers. But they fail to mention the Spurs won that game.

I know I should be used to it by now. But they are the defending champs.

I don't know if they are still pursuing Webber. But w/ Webber or not in their line-up if Bynum is healthy and Kobe continues to make more passes possible for his teammates to score, this team will be in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs.

Unless of course they meet the Spurs in the first round.:lmao (homer)

Go, Spurs! :flag: WIN THIS ONE

Spurs need to start beating teams with winning records. While it wouldn't be the end of the world with a loss, it'd be nice to go into the rodeo road trip with some wins.

...if Bynum is healthy and Kobe continues to make more passes possible for his teammates to score, this team will be in the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs.

Possibly. But next year is the year the Lakers really contend.
Once Bynum develops a base, him and Kobe are going to be
dangerous.

T Park

I agree with the Laker fan.

They are one good draft, and next year of another summer of Bynum with Kareem away from being tough again.

I remember losing to the Lakers at home at this time last season (I was 6th row, behind the bench) and it was horrible, the lowpoint of the season, although watching the bench was fun.

The Lakers are a different squad without Bynum, and the Spurs should make this a statement game and put them in their place. Whether or not that will happen is another thing, but there have been flashes of fine play lately and one can always hope...

Interestingly, Bruce has gone off on Kobe twice this season for 22 and 23 points. It'd be nice to see him hitting his 3s again, and I think that would do a lot to help the offense since he's set up for so many but has been missing most of them (6-25), or driving and messing it up, so far this month.

GO SPURS GO!!!

With no Bynum, this would be a chance for the Spurs to dominate the low post and grab a lot of rebounds. Well, maybe Pop is just taking advantage of the opportunity to experiment and tinker.

Should be a fun game to watch though...gotta hurry home and catch the end of the first half! :0)

he was covered pretty well, and he took a line that took him under and behind the basket, he would have put up close to the same shot Horry did.

but isnt this the game thread for this game?

and the lakers are not? in this game i mean?

U know the Spurs turn the heat up after the ASG; I don't think this is a statement game.

I mean, Cavs swept us during the regular season and we destroyed them in the Finals.

Lebron posterized Duncan during the regular season; he had a hard time getting to the rim in the Finals

Manu is the key - he's horrible today.

How many times has anyone but Tim gotten to the rack? Not once I can remember.

I wouldn't assume that just because the Spurs turned it on last season that it will happen again. The Spurs went 20-2 to close last season out, it's pretty unlikely they do that again considering how much better everyone in the WC has gotten. Right now the only role players on the Spurs worth anything are Barry and Finley. Finley is a godsend for you guys, his timely 3's are literally whats keeping this game in the single digits.

I honestly think this year is worse than last year. The record is, the play is, the defense is, the offense is. And with Pop's latest coaching strategy (smallball), I'm concerned. I don't think there will be a trade, although I want one. The front office apparently sees no problems with the team. We can't even get up for rival games against good teams. It's pathetic, it really is. I see no team defense and Pop doesn't seem to address it as the problem persists consistenly. Sure, we hold our opponents to a low total, but they shoot lights out against us constantly (nearly 46% on the season). The offense is just ridiculous, bad shot selection and just not good.

You're right about everything except it is worse this year - it isn't IMHO. I was in SA at the time and acutely aware of how poorly they were playing. This year feels just the same. BTW, we were 29-13 at the same time last year.

The big question always comes after the rodeo - that's when they really gel and knuckle down together. Can they do it yet again? Right now it doesn't feel like it, but I felt the same way last year, so I'm not going to count them out.

So what. That means nothing to me. Spurs are getting older, the West is tougher you just can't afford to f.uck around. You can't expect to turn it on all the time, it's not automatic, and we need some kind of offensive coordinator cause this offense today is garbage. I've never seen some shots this bad from the Spurs in a long time. That Horry shot from behind the backboard......awful.

Also last season we got back into it playing BIG and it looks as of right now Pop is thinking go small.
