It looks bad the whole season
The rotation is slow and opponents are shoting 46% against us
We're only in 17th place in opponent FG%
But we're number 6 in opponent 3PT FG at 34%
I hope Pop can start setting a rotation on Rodeo Trip and we start playing better D.
Last year the defense sucks until january and then start get better I hope for the same

How many points did the Hornets score in the second half? 80? :lol
Yeah the defense is horrible in big stretches right now. I am not as concerned about the offense as the D.

I live in Brazil so I can't see all game but for you who can I have a question.
Why that big diference betwen the total FG allowed and the 3PT FG allowed.

defense is effort, and the Spurs don't put forth effort except in occasional spurts. They prefer to win with 3Gs.
The key number is 40%, they win.
Under 40%, they lose.
Tonight vs Hornets, 3Gs at 10%, gives BIG blowout loss.

I posted this in the other thread but it goes better here.
As a team the Spurs are this season giving up 103 points per 100 possessions. That is getting steadily worse by each season.
2003-2004 96
2004-2005 99
2005-2006 100
2006-2007 101
2007-2008 103

Yeah I don't get why the D is bad.
Its like they've forgotten how to play it.

Good post. It shows a definite decline in defense. Where did you get these numbers (points vs possessions)?

The one inkling of hope I hold is that I have seen short (I mean very short :lol) stretches where the Spurs defense is very, very good. I'm hoping they can start playing that kind of D soon, for longer periods of time.

There's huge problem for PnR defense. Two possible reasons, one is that the spurs didn't prepare sufficiently, and another one is that some spurs are old and slow.

I'm dumbfounded by it all. I'm sure it'll come around.

It looks bad but once we are playing the same team for 7 games it'll be a LOCKDOWN.

Our interior defense has been pretty poor, not too mention the offensive rebounds for easy putbacks. I believe this can be attributed to the small ball lineup and zone defense. I don't recall the Spurs using the zone as much as they have this year. That's my guess.

If ya want to compete you gotta bring in your young players and get them some experience. Energy and Effort makes up for a lot of mistakes.

As someone said, defense is effort. Rebounding is also effort, heart and desire.
Spurs have displayed very little of either thus far for most of this season.

Normally, I wouldn't be either. But when you can only score in the 70s, I think it may be time to be concerned with the O.
